Get your certificate & license Cosmetologists, skin care specialists and nail technicians are licensed professionals. Palm Beach State prepares students to apply for a Florida state license and pass the state exam for their chosen specialty. The College also awards a Postsecondary Adult Vocational (PSAV) certificate upon graduation.
Build your career Do you aspire to manage or own a salon or spa? Our comprehensive course of study develops your knowledge, personal image and mastery of hair, skin and nail care. You’ll learn and apply the art and science of the full range of services—from hair cutting and coloring to facials and waxing to manicures and pedicures. A focus on cosmetology theory, law, ethics and salon management further enhances your career potential. Full-time students (day classes) complete the course in one year, and part-time students (evening classes) finish in two years.

At the completion of the Cosmetology program you: • Earn a certificate from Palm Beach State • Apply to the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation for your Florida Cosmetology License • Take and pass the Florida Cosmetology Exam to receive your Florida Board of Cosmetology License No high school diploma or GED is required to enroll, however students must pass the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) before completing this program. Your opportunities are limitless in the $40 billion U.S. salon services market. You can become a salon director or owner, a sought-after hair stylist or colorist, or the industry’s top hair designer.

If you like helping people feel positive about their appearance, being an esthetician or facial specialist could be your new profession! In the Facials Specialty program at Palm Beach State, you’ll learn a variety of facial techniques, as well as waxing, microdermabrasion, glycolic peels, lash tinting and makeup application. Students are trained in a fullyequipped salon through a combination of lectures and hands-on practice—taught and guided by licensed professionals. Full-time students (day classes) complete the program in three months, and part-time students (evening classes) finish in six months. The skin care industry is growing rapidly as women and men of all ages desire healthier, better-looking skin. Estheticians and other skin care specialists enjoy a wide range of career options—from full-service salons and spas to doctors’ offices, particularly for dermatologists and plastic surgeons.

Beautiful hands and feet depend on the talents of a skilled nail technician. If you are creative, enjoy precision work and like working with people, this could be your new career! Salons, spas, resorts and even cruise ships need qualified professionals. Students of Palm Beach State’s Nails Technician program develop marketable skills in a modern salon/spa environment, featuring current products and equipment. Our instructors —all licensed professionals—use a combination of lecture and hands-on training to teach the latest nail techniques. You’ll learn and practice manicures, pedicures and applying various types of artificial nails and nail wraps. Of course, the College adheres to and trains students in the highest standards of safety and sanitation. Full-time students (day classes) complete the program in two and a half months, and part-time students (evening classes) finish in five months.
Upon receipt of your license, you are eligible to work in Florida salons/spas. No high school diploma or GED is required for the Facials Specialty or Nails Technician program.
