Advisor: An advisor can be your best friend when
it comes to planning an educational path. Palm Beach State has two types of advisors: academic advisors, who work in Student Services, and program advisors, who are usually faculty members. An academic advisor is a generalist who can help you choose which courses to take, refer you to additional resources and advise you on the transfer requirements of Florida’s colleges and universities. This generalist advisor will refer you to a specialist, or program advisor, when you choose to pursue programs or degrees that you can complete at Palm Beach State. A note of caution:
If you want to pursue a program or degree that you can complete at Palm Beach State, but you think there may be even a possibility of pursuing additional education in the future, choose your courses carefully with the help of an academic advisor. When in doubt, always see an academic advisor before consulting with a program representative. Another reason to see an advisor:
Under a new state law, students who plan to transfer to a state university for their bachelor’s degree will incur an “excess hours” surcharge for any credit hours beyond 120 percent of the hours required by that bachelor’s degree program. To avoid the surcharge, work with an advisor to identify the intended transfer program early and enroll in courses required for the intended major.

The career-oriented A.S. degree program prepares you for immediate entry into the work force.Transfer to certain articulated bachelor’s degree programs is possible as well. For more information, see www.palmbeachstate.edu/transfer.xml The A.S. requirement for 15-18 credit hours of transferable general education courses involves the same general education courses taught for the A.A. degree (just fewer). These general education courses are transferable, and other courses from an A.S. program may transfer toward a corresponding baccalaureate program at a public or private university or college. The courses a receiving institution will accept will vary.
College Credit Certificates award college credit and consist of the technical core of an A.S. or A.A.S. degree. Upon satisfactory completion, these earned credits automatically transfer to an A.S. or A.A.S. program, allowing you to either continue your studies or gain skilled employment.
Advanced Technical Certificate ATCs are advanced specialized programs of study for people with degrees in selected technical programs. ATCs consist of between 9 and 12 college credit hours.

Choices

Palm Beach State has statewide articulation agreements for the A.A. degree and some articulation agreements for certain A.S. programs. www.palmbeachstate.edu/transfer.xml
