Emergency Management College Credit Certificate

Emergency managers coordinate disaster response or crisis management activities, provide disaster preparedness training, and prepare emergency plans and procedures for natural disasters (e.g. hurricanes, floods, earthquakes), wartime, or technological incidents (e.g., nuclear power plant emergencies, hazardous materials spills) or hostage situations. Use your certificate to obtain an exciting, rewarding job in this field or to gain additional skills for your current position. The program provides you with many national certifications from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA). Credits in this program may also be applied towards the Fire Science A.S. degree.

Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) Applied Technology Diploma

(561) 868-3911 Chances are you have passed an EMT-Basic on the road. They often drive ambulances, but that’s not all they do. Basic EMTs are an important link in the lifesaving chain, providing basic emergency care such as stabilizing patients, controlling bleeding and giving oxygen. Palm Beach State College’s one semester, limited access program prepares you for this great career. We offer convenient day and evening hours. When you finish, you’ll be eligible to take the state test to become certified. The 11 credits you earn in the EMT program can be applied toward an A.S. degree in Emergency Medical Services. This program is a prerequisite to the Paramedic program.

(561) 868-3911 Paramedics are trained to provide advanced life support procedures such as performing intubations and providing defibrillation to cardiac arrest victims. Our intensive 12-month program includes clinical experiences in area hospitals and on emergency response units where you care for patients in emergency settings. You must meet certain criteria to be placed in the selection pool, including completion of the EMT-Basic program. This is a limited access program. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible to test for Florida Paramedic Certification. The 42 credits you earn in the Paramedic program can be applied toward an A.S. degree in Emergency Medical Services.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Associate in Science degree

This program offers additional knowledge, beyond the Paramedic certificate, in education, management and technology. The credits you earn in the EMT-Basic and paramedic programs will apply toward your A.S. degree. Our faculty is one of the finest with nationally recognized leaders in management, education, EMS and fire rescue services. Paramedics with an A.S. degree are in demand for educational and supervisory positions. Professional positions requiring this degree offer higher annual salaries. With an A.S. degree you also may receive additional pay from the state as an educational incentive.

Firefighter Post Secondary Adult Vocational
(561) 868-3911 The Firefighter program gives you top-notch instruction and training to fight any blaze, whether it’s a small kitchen accident or a 200-acre brush fire. You also learn safety techniques, operation of fire alarms, operation of vehicles, apparatus and equipment and first responder medical techniques. You must meet certain criteria to be placed into the selection pool for this three-month program, which includes passing the physical ability test and scoring 70 percent on the National Firefighter Selection Inventory Test. This also is a limited access program, which means you are selected using a point system based on work experience and Palm Beach State EMS completion. After completing the program, you will be eligible to sit for the state licensing exam.
Fire Science Certificates Post Secondary Adult Vocational
(561) 868-3911 Palm Beach State also offers post secondary adult vocational (PSAV) certificates in several fire science disciplines for those already working in the fire science field and familiar with terminology and practices: • Fire Apparatus Operator • Fire Instructor • Fire Officer 1 Fire Inspector 1 and Fire Investigator 1 certificates are offered for those without fire science experience.

Criminal Justice Institute Post Secondary Adult Vocational

(561) 868-3911 Palm Beach State College’s comprehensive Criminal Justice Institute provides training for those who want to become a police officer or corrections officer or cross over from one to the other. The Criminal Justice Institute includes:
Academies: Basic Police Recruit This is a 23-week academy that prepares you for entry-level law enforcement work in Florida. Some of the admission requirements include a minimum age of 19, a high school diploma or equivalent, successful completion of the BAT (Basic Abilities Test) for law enforcement, a physical examination, physical agility test, background check, polygraph examination and a psychological examination. Official high school transcripts (and college transcripts, if applicable) are required prior to admission into the academy.
Basic Corrections Recruit

This 15-week academy prepares you to work as an entry-level corrections officer in Florida. Some of the admission requirements include a minimum age of 19, a high school diploma or equivalent, successful completion of the BAT for corrections, a physical examination, physical agility test, background check, polygraph examination and psychological examination. Official high school transcripts (and college transcripts, if applicable) are required prior to admission into the academy.
Cross-Over Training CMS Law Enforcement to Correctional Officer This program prepares the law enforcement officer for a move to become a correctional officer. Requirements include attendance and successful completion of the FDLE Certified Law Enforcement Officer Basic Recruit Academy, passing scores on both the Florida State Officers Certification Exam and the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test for Corrections. If you’re currently employed by a police agency, you must submit a Letter of Good Standing from your agency.
Cross-Over Training Correctional Officer to CMS Law Enforcement This program prepares the correctional officer for a move into law enforcement. Requirements include attendance and successful completion of the FDLE Certified Corrections Officer Basic Recruit Academy, passing scores on both the Florida State Officers Certification Exam and the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test for Law Enforcement, a letter of good standing from your current department or a copy of your corrections certification from the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
Correctional Probation Officer Cross-Over Training to Florida CMS Law Enforcement This program prepares the licensed correctional probation officer to become a licensed law enforcement officer through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Requirements include successful completion of the BAT for law enforcement, a copy of your corrections probation certification from the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission and a letter of good standing from your current department.
Equivalency Training This program prepares out-of-state law enforcement or correctional officers to become certified in Florida. The student must have worked at least one year, full time as a sworn officer in the discipline for which he/she is seeking exemption or have received training in that discipline which is comparable to Florida’s full basic curriculum and/or was previously certified in Florida but certifications have lapsed (less than eight years – a lapse over eight years would require the student to enroll in the full Law Enforcement or Corrections Basic Recruit Academy). Completing this program qualifies the student to sit for the state exam to become certified in the selected field. You must provide written verification from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (CJSTC-76) to qualify for this program.
Advanced and Specialized Training The Criminal Justice Institute offers advanced and specialized law enforcement and corrections training for currently employed law enforcement and corrections personnel.

Criminal Justice Technology Associate in Science degree / Associate in Applied Science degree

(561) 868-3911 The credits you earn in the Basic Police Recruit and Basic Corrections Recruit programs can be applied toward an A.S. degree in criminal justice. Advanced training and degrees help you advance in the field and could give you an edge for promotions. They may also allow you to receive additional pay from the state as an educational incentive. This degree program has three concentrations:
Law Enforcement

concentration is for students who want to become a Law Enforcement Officer.
•
Corrections concentration will prepare you for jobs in prisons, prison camps, youth correctional facilities or federal correctional institutions.
•
Non-Sworn
concentration is for students who wish to pursue a degree in criminal justice in a law enforcement agency or related business or company, but do not want to be a sworn officer.
Each of these concentrations focus on police administration, criminal law, probation, parole and criminal investigation.

Crime Scene Technology College Credit Certificate and Associate in Science degree

(561) 868-3911 Prepare yourself to operate behind the yellow crime scene tape. Crime scene technologists locate, collect and identify physical evidence used to help solve crimes. In the Associate in Science degree program, you will learn everything from how to properly collect and preserve physical evidence and reconstruct crimes and vehicle accidents to how to photograph crime scenes and prepare exhibits for trial. When you finish, you’ll be trained to pursue a career as a crime scene technologist, evidence technician, medical examiner investigator, medical investigator, insurance investigator, forensic paralegal and more. Core courses are also offered in the evening, which makes attending class convenient for those who work during the day. For people who already hold degrees but want to make a career change, Palm Beach State College also offers college credit certificate programs in which students take only the 28-credit hour core courses of the program.
