Degree and Certificate Programs Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees in Biotechnology, Environmental Science Technology, and Landscape and Horticulture Management prepare students to enter the workforce with highly marketable skills suited to a variety of positions. Associate in Arts (A.A.) transfer degree students may take science and environmental elective courses and go on to complete their studies at a four-year college or university. College Credit Certificate (CCC) programs in Biotechnology and Landscape and Horticulture provide the technical core of the A.S. degrees and prepare students for further study or skilled employment. CCC programs work well for students who are currently employed in these fields or have received a bachelor’s degree and are seeking additional training. Earn your bachelor’s degree: Course credits from all programs may transfer to related degrees or a four-year program, including Palm Beach State’s Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Supervision and Management. Whether your goal is to earn an A.S. or advanced degree, you will be on your way to having a meaningful career in service of the environment. Landscape and Horticulture Management Earn your A.S. degree in Landscape and Horticulture Management at Palm Beach State College and prepare to join the dynamic green industry in a management or technical position. The coursework, designed and taught by industry professionals, provides extensive training in all aspects of current green practices and operations. Explore landscape design, plant identification and selection, palms, native plants, pest management, plant propagation, plant physiology, environmental issues in horticulture, and landscape maintenance, installation and construction. Internships are available. Green Jobs: After graduation, you’ll have the knowledge and skills sought by employers. Graduates find positions with golf courses, nurseries, landscape companies, lawn maintenance firms, tree care enterprises or garden centers, and many start their own landscaping businesses.
Landscape and Horticulture Certificates Professional certification is increasingly important in the green industry. Palm Beach State College offers three college credit certificate programs that focus on marketable skills: Landscape and Horticulture Specialist Landscape and Horticulture Professional I Landscape and Horticulture Professional II Palm Beach State’s programs are strongly aligned with the professional standards of outside organizations, principally the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association and the International Society of Arboriculture. Most of the College’s certifications can be used as steppingstones toward the FNGLA certifications of the same names. Each Palm Beach State certificate builds on the information of the previous one, culminating with the Landscape and Horticulture Professional II certificate. In addition, most of the courses required for these certifications can be applied to the College’s A.S. degree in Landscape and Horticulture Management.
