Hermé de Wyman Miro & Veronica Atkins From the moment guests arrived at the Palm Beach Heart Ball, held at The Breakers on Valentine’s Day, they were treated to a romantic evening, one of warm-hearted kindness, classic love songs, spectacular Valentine’s Day décor, and warm welcomes from Heart Ball Chairman Hermé de Wyman Miro who attended to every detail and Co-Chairman, Veronica Atkins. The black-tie affair, to benefit the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association, honored the Lawrence J. and Florence A. De George Charitable Trust and was themed “Come, Be Our Valentine!”. Patrick Park was the Honorary Chairman, “The King of Hearts”. Men’s Committee Chairman was Jason Brian. Dr. Angela Culveyhouse served as the Gala Committee Chairman and Joyce Vaughn as the Advisory Board Chairman. The evening began with a silent auction, a first for the Palm Beach Heart Ball. Guests mixed and mingled while filling out their auction bids and enjoying sumptuous hors d’oeuvres before heading into the Venetian Ballroom for multi-course dining, entertainment, and a live auction. Entertainment included a ballet interlude from dancers of the Palm Beach Ballet Center and a Latin love dance from Ballroom Champions, Babette Brown and Dimitry Nikolaev. “The Voice of Romance”, Franco Corso, serenaded the 350 guests with classic love songs and was accompanied by violinist, Jose Krapp, and pianist, Dr. Gonzalez. Dick Robinson served as the Master of Ceremonies and guests danced the evening away to the tunes of Alex Donner and his Orchestra. Proceeds raised, 621,000, will fund research, education, and community programs. The Palm Beach Heart Ball has raised an estimated $20 million since its inception in 1956. Dollars have contributed to significant scientific advances, including the first artificial heart valve, techniques and standards for CPR, implantable pacemakers, treatment for infant respiratory distress syndrome, cholesterol inhibitors, and microsurgery.
