Letter from the Editor
IN THE COVER: Azzedine Alaïa
28 September 2013- 26 January 2014 After closing due to extensive renovations, the Palais Galliera reopened to the public once more during Paris Fashion Week. To commemorate the occasion, the famed fashion museum honored couturier Azzedine Alaïa by showcasing the very first Paris retrospective dedicated to the master designer’s seductive body of work. The exhibition, which is simply titled ‘Alaïa,’ was curated by Olivier Saillard, the director of the Galliera Museum, and was presented in the Palais’s newly renovated galleries along with the Matisse Room at the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris. Over 30 years of Alaïa’s legendary work was represented by a selection of 70 remarkable dresses in a scenography created by French designer Martin Szekely, while the Matisse Room will showcase art near and dear to the creator’s heart. Alaïa debuted his first signature collection in 1979 after being encouraged to do so by his friend Thierry Mugler. Even his earliest work detailed the success that was to come with an immense attention for detail being made to the use of leather, jersey and the incorporation of stretch fabrics. Unlike most couturiers, Alaïa was capable of creating a garment from start to finish: beginning with a pattern, before moving onto putting cloth to a form and then cutting and sewing the fabric to his will. Poised to be the fashion fête of the year, the exhibition opened on September 28 in Paris and is slated to run through January 26, 2014.

We will introduce you to the celebrations of the social events and charities from New York, Palm Beach, Monaco, Belgium, Germany, France and Asia. Let us guide you through another successful season! Miller (son of prima ballerina Cynthia Gregory). There were performances to “Big Noise From Winnetka;” “Begin The Beguine;” “On The Town;” “Annie;” “A Chorus Line;” “Damn Yankees;” a tribute to Broadway choreographer Danny Daniels (“Tap Dance Kid”). Paul Newman Founder of Camp Boggy Creek
Camp Boggy Creek is specifically designed for children with chronic or life threatening illnesses and allows them to safely enjoy the activities of a “traditional” camp. Between early morning swims and evening campfires, children whose lives have been a series of medical procedures and hospital stays are transformed into just “kids.” They have a chance to be with others coping with the same illness or condition and realize that they are not alone. The prescription for the day is fun, fun, fun! Laughter, giggles, friendships and excitement abound on the 232 acres of tall pines, majestic oaks and nature trails. Campers are empowered to do things they never dreamed they could do. They are infused with a spirit of accomplishment at every turn and allowed to forget that “they have what they have.” For many of them it is the first time they’ve felt “normal” since their diagnosis. Programs at Camp Boggy Creek include week long summer sessions as well as family retreat weekends and each includes full medical coverage with on site professionals in the illness specialty being served. During each of our summer sessions, up to 150 children with like illnesses arrive for a week of fun, adventure and independence.
General H. Norman Schwarzkopf For nearly two decades, General H. Norman Schwarzkopf has dedicated himself to the mission of Camp Boggy Creek. In honor of his commitment, Camp Boggy Creek have formed The Schwarzkopf Society to recognize those donors who embrace the General’s spirit of philanthropy and his steadfast commitment to our campers.

The Camp Boggy Creek experience is more than a funfilled getaway. It helps children and their families to better cope with the day-to-day challenges they face in dealing with serious illness. www.boggycreek.org

Hiroaki Edward Uchiyama (Chef at Le M64, Restaurtant and Lounge Bar) Interview by Maya Johnson
Why did you choose to become a chef ? I grew up in a kitchen ever since I was a boy. My dad had a French restaurant in Montreal. I would help out every weekend. I love eating and discovering new taste. So, it was obvious to follow my dad’s steps. What do you do to stay educated about new trends? I like to eat out and travel all around the world. Tell me about your accomplishments that you are most proud of. When I came to France 10 years ago, I was supposed to stay here for three months. I met the right people and was given a great chance. Maya Johnson, Hiroaki Edward Uchiyama
I started as a stagiaire in a small restaurant, and now I’m a chef in a 5 star hotel. I would like to thank everybody I’ve met during this time. What are the best and worst kitchen experiences you have encountered during your career? One of my best and worst experiences was when I was working the night shift at the George V hotel. I received a phone call from Room Service to make Penne Tomato for Roger Federer, the tennis player. He was in a Tournament in Bercy the next day. I made him a double portion of pasta to give him enough strength for his big game. I was so happy to meet him that night. Unfortunately, he lost the match the next day and told me he ate too much the other night. Page 11

This is her goal at Boca Nursing Services, which she launched 18 years ago after spending time as a registered nurse who worked with private patients. “Continuity is very important to our clients,” Glamoclija says. “It’s comforting to know that someone who understands what you need and want is always available to help.”
We wish everyone a great upcoming season, and we look forward to see you. We invite everyone to dine with us!
To help ensure continuity of care and provide peace of mind for her patients and their families, Glamoclija developed a team approach designed to provide each client with a team of caregivers. “When I first meet with a patient, I immediately have an idea of which caregivers will make the best team,” she says. “We’ve discovered that there is a high degree of patient satisfaction that results from matching the right team to the patient.”
Monday through Friday, 11:30am to 2:30pm
At Boca Nursing Services, it’s not unusual for a team of caregivers to stay with a patient for many years. “Whether they’re at home or in the hospital, our clients are able to live more enjoyable lives thanks to the team approach,” Glamoclija says.
