Service: Team Approach to Private Duty Nursing

Our thoughts are with the people in Paris!

Greetings & Welcome Back! Dear Readers to what promises to be another wonderful winter season here in Palm Beach. The summer, with its many events, & travels far and wide, had us experiencing a myriad of parties with definitive themes. The Red Cross Ball in Monte Carlo, which is always such a pleasure for me to cover here in these pages, was hosted by the Grimaldi royals. On Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015, Dr. & Mrs. G. Clotaire Rapaille de St. Roch entertained a small intimate group of friends from Palm Beach at their home, The Chateau de St. Roch, located in Normandy, France. The Rita Hayworth, Alzheimer’s Association Ball in New York heightened our social awareness and reminded us that Alzhemier’s, as other diseases are non discriminatory. Closer to home, Camp Boggy Creek welcomed more than 8,000 children afflicted by serious illness, thus bringing some joy into the lives of those youngsters. Europe this summer held its usual array of cultural happenings from Germany, to Paris, Brussels, Madrid, Bruges and South of France. Art, fashion & beauty to capture ones attention: thrill us and stimulate us; was at the forefront, once again reminding us all “not to focus in on the bugs, but rather on the butterflies” and be so very grateful for the beauty and positive things we all have in our lives. I am grateful for “Swifty Sweetie”, a magnificent Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who has brought much joy & exuberance into my life, and who has been graciously welcomed by the community and all leading hotels in Europe. Hence, I join him in warmly welcoming you, back to Palm Beach for another “positively splendid” season! Maya Johnson & Monsieur Swifty Sweetie Best wishes

Red Cross The 67th Edition of the Monaco Red Cross Gala Saturday July 25th 2015 In the presence of HRH Prince Albert II, President of the Monaco Red Cross, and HRH Princess Charlène, the 67th Monaco Red Cross Gala took place, as tradition, in the sumptuous and enchanting Salle des Etoiles at the Sporting Monte-Carlo, in a setting of bright lights, colors and magical fragrances. Princess Charlene of Monaco may have been surrounded by the cream of European society at the star-studded Red Cross Ball 2015, but she was clearly the star of the show. The Monégasque royal, 37, wore a fashion-forward one-shoulder jumpsuit with a large bow by Valentino, in contrast with husband Prince Albert’s signature white dinner jacket with black dress trousers.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II & H.S.H. Princess Charlene

The pair hosted celebrities, aristocrats and magnates including Dame Shirley Bassey and Victoria Silvstedt at the annual event, held at the grand Salle des Étoiles in Monte Carlo. “Encouraged by the commitments and deep personal convictions of its President, H.S.H Prince Albert II, the Monaco Red Cross, perpetually turned towards helping others, remains dynamic in its respect of its humanitarian and universal ideal. In this idea, the Monaco Cassius Red Cross Gala offers moments of sharing, unity and togetherness in an exceptional ephemeral setting. Sting was electrifying the audience. The huge international artist is a regular visitor to Monaco and no stranger to the Salle des Etoiles. He interpreted his biggest hits with his characteristic energy in front of an audience which doesn’t need any convincing.

T

he Chateau de St. Roch is an 18th/19th chateau that dominates, and is surrounded by the Orne River in the commune of Batilly in Normandy, France.

The chateau is on a peninsula and its location provides a serene and beautiful view from every room. The original towers, which are still intact, and on which the current chateau is built, date back to the 9th century. During the crusades, the chateau was the Knights Templars command post and then, upon the Kings orders, became a Marquisate, and it’s owner given the title of Marquis. Its mission was to collect taxes from anyone who crossed the Orne River within the domain of the Marquisate. The 17th century church on the property was constructed on top of a 12th century knights tomb, and is surrounded by a cemetery where 17th and 18th century tombs can still be seen today. During the Second World War, the castle became the German army’s headquarters and was surrounded by allied forces. The Caen memorial museum and the D-Day beaches are only 1 hour from the chateau. The Chateau is located at the beginning of what is called “Norman Switzerland.” The name is derived from the rolling green hills and the canyons that have been sculptured into the Amorican Massif by the Orne River and its tributaries.

The Grand Salon’s 25 foot ceiling is draped with a Chinese blue fabric swag and an 18th century chandelier.

A late 17th century Aubusson Tapestry depicting The battle between Alexander the Great and Darius III hangs from the dining room wall.

he D-Day beaches are a testimony to the largest naval, land, and air operation in history, as well as to the courage and cooperation of the American, British, and Canadian armies. US troops were the first to arrive on the landing beaches, and were followed by the British and the Canadians. There were 73,000 Americans troops, 61,715 British, and 21,400 Canadians. At the American cemetery in Normandy located in Colleville-sur-mer, there are 9,387 American tombstones in memory of the Americans who lost their lives to ensure a free Europe. Each of these graves faces west toward America. The cemetery overlooks Omaha Beach where many of these soldiers were killed in action. June 6, 1944 will always be remembered as a date that altered the course of history.
