INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION 7 to 10 p.m. at City Hall Plaza and Rockefeller Gardens. In 1777, 13gun salutes were fired during the nation’s first Independence Day celebration honoring the original 13 colonies whose people had signed the documents releasing our United States from Great Britain’s rule. There’s no place better to celebrate our nation’s 239 years of freedom than beside the beautiful Halifax River in Ormond Beach. Citizens and visitors can enjoy entertainment and fun-filled activities with no admission fee. Rockefeller Gardens will feature “UpTUIT” and City Hall will feature “Brad Yates & Mo’Mentum” both playing from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Kids’ activities will be in Rockefeller Gardens from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and will include a rock climbing wall, a moonwalk, an obstacle course, a giant slide, and more. Other entertainment includes special appearances by Abe Lincoln and Ben Franklin. The finale of this celebration will be fireworks, beginning promptly at 9:30 p.m. on the Halifax River just south of the Granada Bridge. This is the 18th year the event has been held on the corners of the Granada Bridge. For 40 years, Santore has provided the anxiously awaited fireworks show in Ormond Beach exciting all the spectators. Those with handicapped parking permits may park in the lot near Bailey Riverbridge Gardens (where Pilgrim’s Rest Church is
located), on the northeast corner of Granada Boulevard. and North Beach Street. Public parking includes the lot behind City Hall and The Casements parking lot. Please be aware that the parking area on South Beach Street adjacent to Cassen Park will be closed at 1 a.m. July 4 and will remained closed until 1 a.m. July 5. Cassen Park piers and boat docks will be closed at 7 p.m. July 4. North Beach Street will be closed from Granada to Lincoln Avenue; South Beach Street will be closed from Granada to Division Avenue; and, Grove Street will be closed from Tomoka Avenue to Division Avenue. Other side streets within the event area may be detoured or closed for the event. Free shuttle service will be available from 7 to 10 p.m. to assist guests in getting back and forth across the Granada Bridge. Pick-up and drop-off locations are at Beach Street and Granada Boulevard on the west side of the bridge, and at Riverside Drive and Granada Boulevard on east side of the bridge. We encourage you to get to your fireworks viewing location prior to the end of the shuttle service. Please understand that following the fireworks display, traffic will be heavy and you will experience congestion for at least fifteen minutes and we encourage you to be patient. We would also like to remind you that this is an alcohol-free event. Personal fireworks are prohibited. Call 6763241 or visit ormondbeach.org.
