At its last meeting, the board authorized the temporary placement of a directional sign at the intersection of Hampstead Lane and Plantation Bay Drive. The sign was installed by ICI, who will maintain it at no cost to the Association.

ICI has expressed an interest in placing additional signs throughout the community at their expense; however, before this is authorized, we would like your input. Do you believe the sign adds benefit to the community?

The North Entrance, originally intended to be the Main Gate (but that’s another story), includes the Community Development District offices in a building initially used as the real estate office for the community.

The building was redesigned to include a conference room (that anyone can use) and a large open space overlooking the pool — perfect for banquets, large classes, and meetings. There is also a gym and a room for the card-playing

The first thing you notice about Steve Davidson is the pride he has for his community. Davidson has been on the CDD Board for the past nine years and is once again running to continue as the chairman of the organization.

“I have tremendous pride of ownership,” Davidson said. “I am one of 2,000 owners.”

Recently, I had the opportunity to see the Grand Haven Community through Davidson’s eyes.

Sara Beck’s life of twirling began with a flier she brought home from school in first grade.

A member of the Encore Baton and Dance Studio, and one of two majorettes in the Spruce Creek Marching Band, Sara now has won many awards, twirling up to four batons at one time.

She practices 30 hours per week in the summer, and in July she won the Senior Majorette Queen 2016 at the Drum Majorettes of America national competition in Wingate, N.C. The competition included an onstage interview and gown modeling.

Sara is also the executive treasurer for the senior government at Spruce Creek, a member of the National Honor Society, and teaches twirling classes to 20 to 30 students at Westside Elementary every Thursday.

The end of high school won’t be the end of twirling for Sara. She is focusing on schools like Florida State and the University of South Carolina because of their strong marching band programs, and hopes her twirling will help her earn a scholarship.

Director Troy Railsback was re-elected treasurer; Director Ed Sparks was elected secretary and Director Flo McNelly was reelected vice-president. And yes, I’m back … for third term as your Association’s president for 2016.

I thank you, the homeowners, for your support of the board in 2015, and thank my director colleagues for their vote of confidence in this election.

Folks, we have received several reports of residents feeding wildlife. While there is nothing in our documents to prevent this, there is a law in the state of Florida that says the following: “In Florida it is illegal to feed certain animals including sand hill cranes, bears, raccoons, foxes, alligators and others. Wild animals that get food from human hands will start losing their fear of people and their natural ability to hunt or forage food on their own. They may become aggressive when they are hungry and do not get fed.”

I believe the above says it all. Do not place food in the yard to attract wildlife. You, and your neighbors, may not like the results. If you do not want a visit from a represen-

As a community, we’re ready to celebrate. The holiday lighting at our Nova Road and Granada Boulevard entrances and at our clubhouse is fantastic. I especially like the illuminated “Trails” oak tree by the clubhouse. Have you taken a swing down Cherokee Trail or driven Timberline Trail to see the red and green lighted fountains in Little Pond and Lake Walden? It’s worth the trip. Our seasonal communitywide mulching project has been completed so we’re sprucedup, or cypress mulched-up for the winter holidays.

My name is Jacque Estes, and I will be your reporter and photographer. This paper is all about you and your neighbors and the wonderful things you have done and continue to do.

Thomas Ledford, a senior and honors student at Seabreeze High School, and a native of Ormond Beach, spent a week in July lerning about the law and forensics at the Envision National Youth and Leadership Program: Law & CSI, in Washington, D.C. Ledford really enjoyed dressing in a suit and tie for “work.” “It makes you feel important,” he said. “ ... When I got home, I sold all of my video games. ... I want to move ahead with my life.”
