This quilt by Ormond Beach resident Claire Sadowniczak has spent the last two years on quite the journey. The quilt, “Raising the Future,” celebrates the 100th anniversary of the women’s suffrage movement, and was first on display at the Dakota County Historical Museum in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2020. The 19th amendment to the U.S. Consitution was ratified in 1920. Sadowniczak’s quilt was one of 40 selected by the Dakota County Stars Quilters to be part of the exhibition. The purple, white and yellow colors in the quilt are a tribute to the colors of the women’s suffrage movement. The sunflowers in the quilt’s corners was the movement’s symbol from the Kansas state flag.
