CAPSURE PROGRAM AND VISITORS LIST
Please, if possible, self-enter or contact the Access Control Staff at the Old Dixie Highway facility (437-2496) to enter your expected visitors in the CapSure system. This helps us alleviate the backed-up traffic at the gates; if you are expecting someone and they are on your visitors list, we can process them through without delay. Almost daily, we average about a dozen or so “denied entries” of deliveries or visitors when they aren’t on your list or we are unable to contact you to confirm their entry. Additionally, if your phone numbers have changed, please contact us so we can make the corrections updates to your CapSure profile. If you should have ay problems logging into CapSure, you can contact the ladies at Property Management at 437-0038 for their assistance. GOLF CARTS OPERATIONS

Group, which started with six women and now has 20 members ages ranging 65-80 years old, was created approximately 10 years ago by Mary Lou Bercarich. They meet on the second Wednesday of each month from October through May, in the private dining room at the Halifax Plantation Golf and Country Club. Every month, a different topic of discussion is chosen, and each member gets two or three minutes to talk, uninterrupted. “We consider ourselves a sisterhood in which we share tears, laughter, comfort, and support,” said Bercarich in an interview with the Plantation Bay Observer. “I think it’s a real benefit to senior women who seek encouragement and companionship.” Bercarich said the group is full and not open to expansion, but she said she would be happy to help others start their own groups. Contact her at bercarichm@gmail. com or call 386-214-4365. What follows is an edited transcript of our interview.

Q + A MARY LOU BERCARICH, FOUNDER OF LUNCHEON GROUP
When you first created this group, how did you want other women to benefit from it?
When I started, it was small with only a few members, but I wanted to make it a discussion based group where everyone could be heard. A place where older women had support and could open up about their pasts and their experiences. What is the importance in having groups like this?
They provide emotional support. A place where they can laugh, also where they can talk about tough topics, and open up to other individuals. What I find is that once they share, it alleviates some of their pain.

What are some examples of topics you chose for discussion over the years?
How many hours in a day do you spend on social media? How do you think it will affect future generations? Hopes and aspirations. What do you wish you had done when you were young? What would still like to do? What was the most life challenging experience you’ve ever had? You stated that the group is very diverse philosophically, spiritually, and politically. Can you elaborate more on this?
There are Republicans, Independents, and Democrats. We do not discuss politics and we don’t discuss religion. We touch on philosophical/spiritual

things like, Do you believe in faith? What does it mean to live a good life? Where do you find your meaning in life? Things like that. Your April 14 topic was “Women’s liberation:, Good, bad, indifferent.” How did that conversation go?
This topic brought out really positive opinions. Everyone appreciated all the hard work those women went through to fight for our rights. Girls these days don’t have to get married; they’re thinking about college and getting a career. It was a whole different time for us and so many things have changed now.
