Great safety practice When anyone is working in the lab I wear safety glasses at all times, without being reminded.

Food and drink

My work area is clear of food and drink. If I am hungry or thirsty, I step outside of the lab to eat or drink.

Shorts/sandals. appropriate clothes

I wear the appropriate shoes and clothing. I never wear sandals or shorts to lab, even on hot days. I keep my workspace clean, my book bag and coat are stored in the space under the bench. I always clean up when I am done. Even though I work better listening to music, I don’t have my earphones on because I known it’s a safety hazard. My cell phone is in my book bag. If it rings, I ignore it or leave the room to talk.

Needs improving I wear safety glasses on my forehead, rarely on my face, but I will use them if asked repeatedly.

Unsafe at any speed I don’t like safety glasses because they look dorky. Just call me “Blinky”.

I have earphones on when I am working, but when the teacher is talking, I take them out so I can hear what is being said. Sometimes I do use my cell phone, but not when I am recording data.

I work best in a super messy environment because I have the slob gene. Don’t they pay someone to clean up? What did you say? Hold on, hold on, I have to take my earphones out. Could your repeat that? Oh, my cell phone, Well I am popular, and American Idol is going to call.


Good safety practices Every lab, make sure you: Wear safety goggles at all times when anyone is working with chemicals. Don’t eat, drink, or smoke in the lab. Wear the appropriate clothes. This means no shorts or sandals. Keep your workspace clean and neat. Pay attention. This means no cell phone use during lab and music devices are off.. Point deductions during a safety check. These points are subtracted from your grade on the lab that is in progress:

-4 points —did not wear safety goggles during lab at time of check; food, drink was visible on the bench (even if it is closed); workspace was messy or unsafe.

-2 points—did not wear appropriate clothes; cell phone was out on desk during lab. -5 points—was on cell phone in lab, during lab, listening to music. Not participating in the class
