Welcome to the quarterly PSA newsletter, giving you updates on our key activities and the latest news from the health and humanitarian supply chain sector‌ 2016 is already proving to be an exciting year for PSA with a number of big projects in the pipeline and a growing body of staff in the UK and beyond. We are also celebrating after SGS recently conducted an ISO 9001:2008 Certificate Surveillance Audit and recommended that our quality management system certification be continued for another year. Well done team!

Consultancy

We are currently working on some exciting projects with some big-name clients.

One such project is with UNFPA Yemen who have asked us to undertake a comprehensive needs assessent to determine how the system can be

strengthened and made more resilient within the current humanitarian context and beyond. More about this project in the next newsletter.

We are also working with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Kaduna State, Nigeria, where Pam recently facilitated a supply chain workshop funded by the Gates Foundation. The workshop was attended by Senior Directors from the Ministry of Health, the Permanent Secretary and representatives of UNFPA, UNICEF, USAID, JSI, CIPH, CHAI, MNCH2 and McKinsey. The group (pictured above) was engaged and left feeling "inspired, motivated and changed". Read Pam's blog post here.

Prior to going to Nigeria, Pam also spent a day at the head office of CBM (formerly Christian Blind Mission) in Germany. She was very interested to learn about their work and their supply chain needs and wrote a short blog post about her trip.

Earlier in the year PSA also completed a project with the Cash Learning Partnership (CaLP) who asked us for assistance in adapting some of their existing learning materials and developing some new ones.

Training & Capacity Development In February, Pamela Steele and Dr Andrew Brown travelled to Dubai to deliver three of our most popular open courses. We had delegates from the USA, West Africa, Southern Africa, East Africa and the Middle East, representing UN agencies, INGOs, Ministries of Health and public healthcare providers.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive with delegates praising the facilitators for their considerable experience and their ability to transfer knowledge. One participant said "I am highly impressed with the training package which will help me a lot in the future with planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of my programme activities."

Research Our latest research projects have included the launch of a brand-new supply chain publication, work on a new edition of WISE Magazine (Women's Initiative for Supply chain Excellence) and a deskbased review of supply chain competencies in the humanitarian sector.

We recently hosted a group of interns from the University of Oxford who worked very hard to produce the first issue of 'Health & Humanitarian: The Supply Chain Review'. They secured content, and funding, from high-profile individuals and organisations in a short timeframe and the resulting publication has been very well received. We hope you enjoy reading it!

Work is underway on the second edition of the earlier WISE Magazine 'Humanitarian Logistics: A Career for Women' which will include updated stories from past contributors alongside brand new stories from male and female humanitarian logisticians offering advice to women considering a career in the sector.

People News PSA has its Head Office in the UK but its roots are firmly in Africa and we are delighted to share news of our newly-opened Nairobi Office and recent appointment in Nigeria.

Kenya We have recently appointed a Strategic Business Executive (Paul Crook) and a Business Development Consultant (Jacob Bwana) and they are already working very hard to build PSA's reputation in East Africa. Paul has worked in a number of managerial positions with notable NGOs undertaking project management in countries across Africa, developing efficient delivery of results and supporting effective programme development. Jacob brings considerable freight and logistics experience after several years in the airline and development

industries in East Africa. We warmly welcome them both.

Nigeria Salihu Isa Idris recently joined us as the Project Manager for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation work in Kaduna State. Salihu has considerable experience in pharamcy and logistics in his native Nigeria.
