Our magazine feature this month is a heartwarming story of how one mom mobilized our community to send support for a Marine troop that included her son. Your eyes will tear up while your chest swells with pride over how we come together when given some direction. December is an exceptionally proud time for our family as my oldest son, Mike, graduates from Virginia Tech with a degree in Marketing Management on December 18. He is a product of three local schools – The Boxwood School, Wakefield School and Fauquier High School. Mike says that each of those experiences prepared him for a successful college career. Now, like many of our local college graduates, he is pounding the pavement looking for a decent job.

Women of Wonder (WOW) Fauquier County is proud to announce that they will once again be organizing Warrenton’s annual Christmas parade, to take place along Main Street, on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 10 a.m. The Christmas parade is a Warrenton tradition, and a fun holiday event. As you may be aware, WOW relies on community volunteers to help organize and run the parade, as well as contributions to help fund it. This year, in addition to covering parade costs and offering a day of fun and holiday cheer, WOW is also hoping to bring the community together in a common cause. In this difficult economic time, many members of our community are struggling to meet the most basic of needs (food, clothing, shelter) for themselves and their families. Christmas is a time of giving, not just giving of gifts, but of giving of ourselves, and of coming together. We, as a community, can come together to try to help fill this need. Therefore, in addition to covering the costs of the parade, WOW is hoping to raise additional donations for this purpose. They have selected the Fauquier Food Distribution Coalition as the main recipient of additional donations raised through this event.

With that in mind, the theme of this year’s parade is

“Season of Giving.” WOW would like to request that local businesses and organization consider becoming a parade sponsor, and we encourage community members to take part as well, by donating non-perishable foods, or a small donation at the parade. We will have an area set-up to collect non-perishable foods by the parade grand stand, and will have volunteers walking the parade route collecting any monetary donations. If a $1 donation was made for each person within Warrenton alone, we could raise over $9000*. If we include the whole of Fauquier County, that amount rises to over $66,000* (*according to the 2008 Census data). Nevertheless, to make this event as successful as possible, we need help getting the word out to the community. That’s where we need you! Please join them and make this a happy and memorable holiday event! Women of Wonder is a local non-profit organization that unites the woman of a community in friendship, support and community service. The Fauquier Food Distribution Coalition is a collaboration of local businesses and organizations that provide food and necessities to families and individuals in need, within our community. Visions of Christmas Past by Dr. Robert B. Iadeluca

As I look backward to “Christmases past,” many memories filter through my mind. I remember Christmas as a young child trying to stay awake to see Santa Claus and that Christmas when I was old enough to receive the gift of gifts – a fullsized bicycle. I remember the Christmas that I took my new gorgeous girl friend to meet my aunt. I spent some Christmases as a single man, some as a newly married man, some as a father, and some as a grandfather. Some Christmases were in my hometown and some were thousands of miles away. I remember spending Christmas in warm cozy houses and Christmas in cold muddy foxholes. I can remember one Christmas that was accompanied by constant ear-splitting artillery bursts and one particular Christmas that was so quiet, I could hear the bark of a dog two miles away coming across the snowy landscape through the still night air. Christmases when I was outdoors in short sleeves and Christmases so bundled you could not see my face. I remember Christmases that were deliriously happy and Christmases that, for various reasons, were completely devoid of the “spirit.” I can remember receiving scads of Christmas presents and years when I did not receive a single Christmas present or a single Christmas card. There were Christmases when numerous family members surrounded me and Christmases completely alone. I recall Christmases when there was enough money to spread material gifts around and others when the Christmas meal was sparse. I remember one bitterly cold Christmas when, as an impoverished graduate student, I was on Food Stamps and the local clergyman brought us a $100 bill donated by a church 10

to which we did not belong. I remember many other Christmases when I spent most of the day serving a Holiday dinner to the less fortunate. I can remember spending New Years Eve in Times Square pressed in by a million bodies, once as a boy and much later accompanied by my children. I remember New Years Eves in bed being pressed closely by a single body. I also remember spending New Years Eve alone. There was a time when I dedicated most of my New Years moments trying to get girls under the Mistletoe – later times when my priorities had changed. I can remember coming home at 3 a.m. after a New Years Eve party and I can remember other years being in bed and asleep by 9 p.m. I have had my share of unhappiness (as have you) but these combined with the happiness have given me a rich life. As I enter my tenth decade, I can say with complete assurance that at no time in my life have I felt more peace and contentment than now. The Holidays that were filled with giggling, hearty laughter, and jovial conversational outbursts have become less frequent but the serenity is ever more present. I live alone but am not lonely. I have had and continue to have a rich life.

web two-point-you Social Media Dominates Today’s Online World Question: Do you know what Web 2.0 is all about? If your first thought is “when did we leave the first Web?” then please read on. And if you consider yourself a savvy surfer of digital waters, please read on as well, because at the end of this article I’m going to invite you to share your thoughts about what I’ve said. That invitation, in part, is what Web 2.0 is all about. I’ve been asked numerous times to offer up a definition of Web 2.0, and I usually begin by telling people that there are as many different answers as people you ask, like clowns spilling out of a Volkswagen Beetle. But this is the way I see what has taken place over the past six or so years. by Jeff Crites

Web 1.0 (1990s through about 2003) was pretty much a one-way street. You went to a website and consumed information or purchased something. It became far easier to search for that new or vacation home, make your own investment decisions (ETrade), or sell those ‘valuables’ you had in storage (hello eBay). Web 2.0 is a two-way street, where new tools enable you to interact, connect, contribute, and respond. Web 2.0 is about participation. You don’t just consume, you produce. You are in control, deciding which restaurants to praise or punish (reviews on Yelp), which videos to share with friends (who hasn’t seen Susan Boyle?), when to comment in a blog post, or whether to begin blogging yourself.

The explosion of Social Media is a natural progression of Web 2.0. Going to Wikepedia (makes sense, since the popular user-generated encyclopedia is a prime example of Web 2.0 collaboration), social media is defined as “media designed to be disseminated through social interaction” … “transforming broadcast media monologues (one to many) into social media dialogues (many to many)”. In 2006, when it first appeared on Wikipedia, social media was defined as a term “used to describe media which are formed mainly by the public as a group, in a social way, rather than media produced by journalists, editors and media conglomerates”. The term ‘citizen journalist’ arrived on the scene over the past few years, with camera and video-equipped smartphones giving anyone the ability to instantly publish images or video or text to the web. The first image captured in the ‘Miracle on the Hudson’, when that plane crash- landed in New York, was an iPhone picture taken by a passenger on a ferry that was first to arrive on the scene. That image was pushed out and passed around via social media tools to millions of people within hours (and used by the major TV and Cable news networks as well). Social networking sites are the great enablers of anything and everything relating to social media. It can be overwhelming to try and grasp all that has happened, and continues to happen online. I tell people that are confused by it all, or resistant to it all, that you don’t have to ‘get it all’. It’s a digital buffet, and you can pick and choose what fits your lifestyle, needs, preferences and goals. And let’s come full circle, back to ‘you’, because all of this wonderful technology is supposed to help you, right? As opposed to making your personal or business worlds more complicated. There has never been a better time to take the reigns and connect/say/be/ do what you want – to tell your story thanks to this wild and wonderful thing I like to now call the Evolving Web. So whether you’re diving into social media waters to connect with friends and family, or wondering how you ignite word-of-mouth markting to promote 14

your business, the barriers to begin are very low. The downside? Lots of noise, for one. Web 2.0 empowers people to have a voice, and there are now millions now clamoring for attention online. The upside? The ability to ‘digitally connect’ with people near and far. People who you can learn from, and who can learn from you. People who are fans of your business and who are willing to be ambassadors for it. The bottom line: you are in control now. You can choose to begin blogging (or mico-blogging, via Twitter) to tell your story, whether personal or business related. You can choose to begin to learn what works for you and what doesn’t, and take advantage of some of the wonderful technology that exists today. If you’re a small business owner, it doesn’t matter if you personally don’t like social media, because a lot of your customers do. And so you at least have to understand where consumers are going, and decide to meet them there. Because they are in control now, whether you like it or not.

This is a disruptive, delightful, overwhelming and exciting age we live in. I love the digital side of life. Do you? Anthony “Tony” Tedeschi had always regretted that he left college in his second year to pursue his passion for printing full time. A successful businessman, Tedeschi didn’t need to return to school – but near his 40th birthday, that’s exactly what he did. In 1999, Tedeschi and his wife, Holly, purchased Piedmont Press & Graphics, inheriting all of the issues that come with owning your own business. He was also challenged by his 13- and 11-year-old sons, Mike and Kevin, as to the importance of a college education. Determined to prove a point to his sons, Tedeschi went to Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) the very next day and enrolled as a student. That first semester he took Art History with locally-renowned artist Becky Parrish and American Literature with published author Bob Ashcom. He was inspired by both instructors’ passion for teaching and Tedeschi never looked back. In 2001, Tedeschi graduated from LFCC with an associate degree in

Current Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient of Lord Fairfax Community College Business Administration with a 4.0 GPA and as a member of Phi Theta Kappa. “The people at the campus are really phenomenal,” Tedeschi said, noting the personal attention he received as a student from the College staff. Next, he continued the difficult road to earning his bachelor’s degree. Thanks to LFCC, he was able to do that on the Fauquier Campus through Old Dominion University’s (ODU’s) Teletechnet program. During the next few years, two more children were born, a new building was constructed, a magazine launched and other businesses started. Yet, Tony stayed in school year round. In May 2007, Tedeschi graduated Magna Cum Laude from ODU with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. “You can still do everything you want to do and go to school,” he said. “You just have to be focused about it. And there’s no better time to get an education than today!”

He also admits that he might not have made it without the support of his wife & partner of 13 years, Holly. “She got me through some tough times when I was getting overwhelmed with keeping all aspects of my busy life together.” Today, Tedeschi’s education focus is squarely on his children. Michael, 22, is in his final semester at Virginia Tech University, while Kevin, 20, began his junior year at Roanoke College. John and Ella entered kindergarten at the Boxwood School this fall. Since graduating from Lord Fairfax and Old Dominion, Tedeschi has continued to operate Piedmont Press & Graphics along with Holly. In 2005, they launched the Warrenton Lifestyle Magazine – a monthly publication distributed to about 11,000 households and businesses in Warrenton. Among his other business activities, Tedeschi is an international printing industry consultant and has clients ranging from California to Central Asia. Tedeschi is an active volunteer in community, environmental, children’s sports and economic development activities. He currently serves on the advisory board for SonaBank and Fauquier Family Shelter Services. Along with local business people, Tedeschi just launched the Greater Warrenton Chamber of Commerce where he serves as interim president. His hobbies include traveling, sporting events, reading, listening to vinyl albums and coaching children’s sports teams. Because of Tedeschi’s service to the community, dedication to education and excellent example as a role model for students of all ages, he was selected to receive the 2009 LFCC Distinguished Alumni Award. Lisa Weber, Warrenton resident and proud Marine mom, spent her nights worrying about the safety of her brave son, Lance Corporal Daniel Weber of 2nd Battalion 8th Marines Golf Company, who was deployed to southern Afghanistan this spring. She decided to make good use of these sleepless hours and began orchestrating a way to send packages of supplies overseas to her son and his company. Looking to the community for support, Weber contacted Middleburg Life about publishing a little blurb about her effort. The little blurb turned out to be a half-page long and soon other publications like the Fauquier Times Democrat and Warrenton Lifestyle Magazine printed their own articles in hopes of boosting Weber’s endeavors. 30

Places like Giant, Chick-fil-A, Gold’s Gym and many more—all proud to host the donation boxes. Fauquier High School, where Daniel graduated just a few short years ago, arranged to have two drop boxes which they’ve managed to keep very full. The second box at the school was placed in the weight room. One of the school’s coaches, James Pulchine, is a former Marine and took special interest in encouraging students and community members who use the weight room to make donations. What Weber originally thought would be a few nice packages shipped to her son in Afghanistan became a county-wide donation drive for his entire company.

It began with a trickle that soon became a flood. Calls and emails asking what people could do to help. Perfect strangers getting in their cars, heading out to Costco and buying hundreds of dollars worth of needed items, bringing them in bags and bags at a time. Veterans of Korea, Vietnam and both Gulf Wars quietly and proudly dropping off items they had so carefully picked out for you. Cards and letters written over dinner tables, some taking a long time to find the right words.

Behind Deployed Marines By Jennifer Heyns & Jennifer Scheulen The dozens of packages that Weber sent per week amounted to a total of 374 large packages over a six and a half month period. The Middleburg Post Office dedicated two employees every Friday afternoon to process the packages. Many people donated funds to help with shipping costs. In addition to the much-needed staples of Marine life, Weber sent children’s pictures and drawings, and letters received from retired veterans in the area wishing to express their admiration for their younger counterparts—even one from a veteran of Patton’s Third Army. Weber also sent her own letter in every package. Marines Continued on Page 32

I want you to imagine a little girl hugging a picture of 3rd Platoon Golf Company (my Marine’s Platoon!) asking “Isn’t MY Marine going to be so proud of me?” when she showed me all of the items her afterschool program had donated to their “adopted” Company. I want you to imagine a little boy bringing in a box of dog treats for the bomb dog he saw in the Platoon picture saying “It wasn’t on the list—I thought of it all by myself.” I want you to imagine a 2/8 Echo Company Marine, who served in Beirut during the bombing, sending me a check to mail enough packages for each Fire Team in a Company. He wishes to remain Anonymous but wants you to know that a former 2/8 Marine “has your back”. I want you to know about a little boy, Luke, deciding that for his birthday in two weeks, he wanted to ask his friends to bring things for you to his party, rather than gifts for himself. Marines Continued from Page 31 Weber’s goal was to let her son and his battalion know that they might be far from home but they are far from forgotten. Giving is something that comes from the heart, selflessly, for the benefit of others. The soldiers serving overseas are representatives of the United States, but so many of them find themselves in very desolate places without so many of the luxuries that we enjoy here at home. According to Weber, until recently young Marines in Afghanistan were sleeping on the ground every night of their deployment. Some now have cots, which is an improvement but still a far cry from the comfortable beds most of us climb into nightly. So it is with complete confidence that Weber assures that the Marines in Daniel’s company truly appreciated every single item that was sent to them. “I just don’t want anyone to think that if they don’t get a note or any sort of thanks from the Marines that it’s because they didn’t receive their donations or weren’t appreciative,” says Weber. “It’s just that it’s so difficult for them to get mail out.” She admits that it takes nearly two months for packages from the States to reach the Marine companies in Afghanistan and as difficult as it is to get the packages and supplies in, it’s even tougher to get things out.

Now I want you to imagine getting on that plane, flying back to your home—the United States of America—a home filled with people who honor your service and sacrifice. All of us who have our own Marines whom we love and miss, support you with each and every breath that we have. What you need to know is that people who have never met you send you their support as well. Semper Fi—we are always faithful. We will try to deserve the bravery, dedication, and love you have shown to each and every one of us. 32

Lance Corporal Daniel Weber returned home to Warrenton on November 14th in the wee hours of the night. His six and a half months in Afghanistan were grueling and he has returned a much different person than the boy who left this spring. “He’s skeleton thin, they all are—none of them can even fit into their civilian pants anymore,” says Weber. There are internal changes she’s noticed as well. “He’s much more grateful for things like hot showers, television and fresh food in the refrigerator that he can have anytime he wants. But one thing is for sure: all of them have come home with a much greater appreciation for family and community.” Although Daniel and his company have returned home in time to celebrate the holidays with their loved ones, there are still so many more young men and women serving abroad who cannot be here. “There are an awful lot of people over there doing incredibly difficult things, and the citizens here just need to be aware,” says Weber.

Daniel’s first breakfast back in North Carolina. They just kept ordering more and more food until they had to be moved to a larger table to fit all the plates.

Literally crossing paths over the seas, Daniel made his way back to Fauquier County as his longtime friend and fellow FHS graduate Lance Corporal Cory Smith was deployed to Afghanistan with the 2nd Battalion 2nd Marine Fox Company. Cory’s mother, Michelle Smith of Midland, has already begun shipping care packages to her son. “He’s been able to call a few times to let us know he’s ok,” said Smith, “but mostly we get emails now—I think he’s spending most of his minutes calling his new wife.” In September, Cory married his high school sweetheart, Lauren. His deployment is slated for a length of seven months and already he is missing his family and friends. Like Weber, Smith is quickly becoming acquainted with the list of items every soldier yearns for and needs while serving in Afghanistan. They are modest in nature and must be lightweight.

“I’ve sent him a bunch of toiletries,” said Smith. “Powdered drink mixes, homemade cookies, jerky—it’s hard because anything you send to them they have to carry, so it needs to be consumable, disposable or light.” Marines Continued on Page 34

Marines Continued from Page 32 Not only will Cory and his company be spending the holidays in service in Afghanistan, they will be spending the entire winter there, and the temperatures are getting more frigid. While they are still in constant need of items like boxer briefs and long tube socks (laundry is a luxury that is reserved only for their uniforms, everything else is burned after use), they also need things like extra T-shirts for layering under their uniforms and heat packs for their hands and feet. Smith has already been approached by members of the community wanting to donate items for her to send to Cory and his company, and wondering if she will step in to fill the sleepless shoes that Weber is ready to pass on. “I would like to continue on with what Lisa did for Daniel’s company,” Smith says. “Those young Marines really deal with some very difficult situations and they can use our help.” Not everyone

agrees with the purpose of having our Marines and other soldiers deployed overseas, but it doesn’t change the fact that they are there, working very hard, sacrificing everything and asking so very little in return. “Their father and I are so proud of the sacrifices our sons are making (Cory’s older brother is a Marine stationed in California). They’re wonderful boys who make great decisions,” says Smith. Although she hasn’t yet had time to learn the ins and outs of organizing and sending packages overseas, Smith says she welcomes anyone who’s interested in making donations to contact her via email at Mish312@yahoo.com and put “Marine Donations” in the subject line. “It means so much to the boys—and they WERE boys when they left, but they are all returning home men—to know that people from their home towns are thinking of them and care about their well-being,” says Weber.

Christmas in your hometown should be a special time, and this year promises to live up to the expectations of most residents of Warrenton. On December 4, “Christmas in Old Town” kicks off with a 6 p.m. Illumination Walk from the Mosby Museum to GumDrop Square. 36

They are hand painted on glass in Austria. I’m sure that these will sell out quickly.”

Something fun Christmas is great for kids, and for those with a lot of “kid” still in them. For that, one should take a look at the items offered by Hobbies, Etc in the Warrenton Village Shopping Center. “‘Bind and Fly’ is the newest thing,” said owner Sue Spindel. “You can fly up to 20 helicopters or planes on one controller ... one radio and multiple products. Mini helicopters will hover, go side to side, and every part is replaceable.” Then there are the old standbys like railroads, cars and trucks. And something more modern. “Rocketry is really big out here,” Spindel said. “The Rocket Club launches out of Great Meadow. We have a starter kit with everything in one box.” “Microrobotic Creatures have gotten huge the last few years, and Hex Bug Nanos are popular as well,” said Matt Littleton, co-owner of Radio Shack in Warrenton. “But I think that XM Skydock is going to be big this year. With this, you can use your I-Pod or I-Phone to get XM radio, and I think that’s going to be very popular.”

Something wearable At The Scoti on Main Street in Old Town, owner Dave McCrabb said, “We’ve got all the stuff that people wait for every year ... sweaters, Highland wear, Tartan scarves, kilts and ties. We also have cookies and teas, lots of Christmas ornaments. We’ve got lots of things in the $25 range, which make nice office gifts or stocking stuffers.” The little ones aren’t forgotten at Dharma & Leopold’s in Old Town. Owner Roxanne Klopp said that she will be having specials every Friday night in December. “We will be featuring something different each week, such as free gift with a $75 purchase,” Klopp said. “We have toys and gifts for newborns up to about eight. Highland School Learning, No Boundaries

Independent schools – what are they and what sets them apart from public schools and other types of private schools? There are nearly 3,000 independent schools nationally and more than 80 in the state of Virginia. What these schools share is the freedom to serve their distinct individual mission and philosophy.

Our trustees are typically parents, professionals, or educators from other institutions, who share a commitment for the well-being of the institution, students, and faculty. It is the leadership and support of our trustees that makes the current improvements to our facilities at Highland possible, as these projects are not funded by tuitions.

The mission of Highland School for example is: To provide a demanding academic and co-curricular program that develops the skills and character essential for students to meet the challenges of college and leadership in the twenty-first century.

Independent schools are supported by a combination of tuition payments, charitable contributions and endowment revenue and not by public funds. Independent schools are not-forprofit where “private” schools may not be. Independent schools are committed to being financially accessible through need-based financial aid as well as merit scholarships. Highland increased its tuition assistance to more than $800,000 in the past year to ensure qualified students could take advantage of the educational opportunities we provide.

Our philosophy is informed by our mission, and rooted in four core beliefs: A well-rounded education delivered in a nurturing environment is the best preparation for college and life beyond; The school strives to discover the promise and potential in each student; The student-teacher relationship and community responsibility are at the center of the learning experience; and, Character development is equal in importance to academic development. We are engaged in an educational program that combines academic preparation and learning experiences we think best prepares students for college and a productive life beyond. We are committed to educating the whole child – which means ensuring each student is developed academically, artistically, and athletically. In addition, we are focused on character and leadership development as key ingredients for future success.

Finally, independent schools are fully accredited by an accrediting agency or association that has well developed standards and procedures. In October, Highland successfully completed a comprehensive review by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS). VAIS is our accrediting body and requires ongoing curriculum development, professional growth, and compliance with 76 standards in order to maintain accreditation.

Two thirds of Highland School graduates will take Advanced Placement courses, the average is more than three courses, and the majority will earn scores of 3 or better. According to study done by the National Association of Independent Schools the reasons cited by families who send their children to our schools include individual attention, small classes, teacher excellence, and high academic standards. Nevertheless, the main motive for families looking into independent private schools can be summarized in one word: Quality. They want, quite simply, the best preparation for their college bound sons and daughters. To that end, Highland has developed several specific and unique programs and facilities to help prepare students for the future. A new Humanities & Instructional Technology wing allows us to cluster the classrooms of academic disciplines and provides a Harkness seminar room, writing lab, and student commons. The Harkness room is a seminar-style space that uses ovalshaped tables and low student/teacher ratios to encourage interactive learning experiences to engage all students in dynamic discussions and mimic that of a collegiate environment. A new Lower School facility, to open in the fall of 2010, was designed from the ground up to promote active teaching and active learning. This new facility, coupled with a redesign of Middle

School space, will dramatically improve the opportunities we offer our students. Our arts facilities include the 355-seat Rice Theater, 60-seat Lise Hicklin Black Box Theater, a Gallery, 2 and 3-D art rooms, photography, filmmaking and editing labs, music rooms and a theater shop. Finally, a new, state-of-the-art synthetic turf field was installed in 2009, offering not only our students a premier athletic experience, but members of the community as well. Key components of the Highland experience are a sense of personal responsibility and the appreciation for the dignity of hard work. The honor code and the school-wide character themes are the covenants necessary for students to participate in the Highland community where trust and integrity are essential. It is this, and more, that adds up to the best college preparation we can give our students.

He has spent nearly 30 years in area independent schools as Assistant Headmaster, Upper School Director, Assistant Head/Director of College Counseling and member of the science faculty. Hank is Highland’s eighth Head of School in our more than 80 year history. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Wake Forest and a Master’s in Interdisciplinary Science from Texas Tech University. He, his wife, and three daughters reside in Warrenton.

Thanksgiving has passed and Christmas is just around the corner. During this holiday season, we all need to think about what we can do to help our local economy and ourselves. So, as you go through the process of readying your home and family for the holidays, save yourself time and hassle by shopping in Fauquier County. Warrenton Pediatrics has moved to their beautiful new space in Blackwell Park, behind Ruby Tuesday’s. Clean Scene has opened a new office in Warrenton where Superior One Hour Heat and Air used to reside. They are ready for all of your holiday cleaning needs, including the carpets. Honey Baked Ham has opened a store between Borders and Verizon in the Warrenton Village Shopping Center, just in time for all your great holiday parties and meals. They also have the deli option in this store, which makes sandwiches and even delivers them, if you need. What a treat! In addition, when you are looking for those special baked goods to go with everything, keep in mind all the great shops we have that make wonderful fresh-baked goods. The Red Truck Bakery in Old Town Warrenton can bake you fresh pies, breads, rolls and cakes and even ship them anywhere in the country. What a special gift for someone far away. While the Buckland Farm Market has pies, cookies, cakes, breads and more than I can name here, all baked fresh in their new location in New Baltimore. Café Torino has some of the best pastries in town, for that really special meal. And of course Panera has a wonderful selection of breads, muffins, bagels and more. One more thing worth mentioning, Buckland Farm Market is now carrying t-bones, rib eyes and NY strips from D & M Meats and they can special order other cuts, if you like. Recently closed businesses include Friendly’s Restaurant, which has closed to make way for a new car wash next year and the owner of Showcase Gardens has decided to retire and close the business in the New Baltimore area. Brown’s Wood Stuff has been having a very successful going out of business sale and expects to close in mid-December.
