40 Ways to Promote an Event Checklist for promoting an event by Pam Perry 1. Create an Eventbrite.com page and create an event Hashtag (use in all promotion – make it short and snappy) 2. Create a Special Graphics for Your Speakers that they can post on FB and Tweet, and post on social – create postcards, flyers, posters etc… BRAND the event 3. Connect that page to Facebook (biz page) 4. Use that same Eventbrite account and send an email via Mailchimp.com 5. Share the page via Twitter, FB, Linkedin and Google Plus 6. Share that Eventbrite page via your mobile device to a “group message” of friends in your own database on your phone 7. Invite your person (local) friends to the event [Note: You have to do this one by one – FB does not allow you to “spam” your FB friends from your Business/Fan page] 8. Create a video using animoto.com – post on youtube and share to FB, Twitter, Linkedin, and Google+ 9. Post a blog post and add video and EventBrite URL 10. Add video to EventBrite page and reshare 11. Create a FB Cover with marketing materials from flyer 12. Do an Eblast using Aweber and/orConstantContact and send out the blog post/video [cut and page and recalibrate to fit] – don’t forget to email former attendees! 13. Add an email signature with the artwork to all your emails and don’t forget the Eventbrite link! 14. Create and invite email list to a webinar or teleseminar and have the speakers from the event discuss what they will present/teach on 15. Add webinar to Slideshare 16. Create a Podcast from the teleseminar or a stand alone podcast 17. Create a blog Post with webinar/teleseminar share to FB, Twitter and Google+ 18. Create a Press Release and post on PRNewswire, FreePressRelease.com and other SEO PR site 19. Create an article from the Press Release and post on Linkedin (on personal page) 20. Create a Linkedin Group page and a company page and invite people to the event

Personally direct message Linkedin contacts (can sort via location to make sure you are inviting those in the vicinity on if an online event only those you know would be interested) DO NOT SPAM on linkedin! 22. Collaborate with other organizations and have them email your event (if free) to their email list (i.e. like AriseDetroit) 23. Create a Pinterest Board for event (add the video from youtube) and blog post –and other photos…relevant photos with captions and direct back to eventbrite page 24. If budget allow, purchase FB ads! 25. Create an event invite using Google + (from company page if one is create) and share 26. Host a Google Hangout with speakers (will be transformed into a Youtube video) after hangout is done and post that in blog and eblast it out to lists 27. Tweet to your Twitter Lists and make sure to include media (if one is created) 28. Create an Instagram account and connect to FB, Twitter and Foursquare (use photos and quote and screen shots of emails, videos and other invites) – DON’T FORGET HASHTAG! 29. If budget allows, purchase ads on twitter (sponsored posts) 30. Collect Hashtags and post via Storify 31. Run a FB contest (give away a pair of tickets or something of value) 32. List in event directories such as http://www.youreventfree.com, eventful.com, meetup.com, yelp, Detroit News, BLAC magazine …. 33. Create widget from EventBrite and post up in social sites and blogs (give to collaborative partners) 34. Create a Tweet Chat with speakers 35. Have speakers write a guest post on blog or post up copy from another publication (with permission) 36. Do an Enewsletter …send out with all links, hashtags, photos, art work, videos and podcasts about the event 37. Create a PSA (turn that into a commercial in the podcast) and post PSA :60 on soundcloud.com 38. Text message Instagram pic and add link to Eventbrite (group text) …but don’t spam. Look for relevance 39. Create photo album of photos used for artwork in Flickr.com and Google+ 40. Reach out to media with press release… old school – but try to find “current events” angle so they take notice. Follow up via social media and give them links…they like that.
