To experience Frankfurt city in all its Yuletide glory one must visit the Frankfurt Christmas Market. Adorned with extravagant and creative decorations set against the majestic backdrop of the city’s old town centre, the market is the ideal place to soak in some Christmas cheer. e origin of the market dates back to 1393, as the rst reference of the market was documented then. e market was traditionally accompanied by the performance of an ecclesiastical mystery play, which was staged in Römerberg. Since 2021, the Roßmarkt has been part of the Frankfurt Christmas Market therefore, the market extends from the Roßmarkt over the Zeil down to the Römerberg and the Main. Some of the quintessential elements of the market include the nest of handicra s, toys, sweets and other Christmas knick - knacks made by local artisans. A highly popular feature of the markets are the wide range of baked goods available. One of the most famous is the “Bethmännchen”, a traditional almond and marzipan cookie usually baked for Christmas day invented in 1838 by the French confectioner Jean Jaques Gautenier, who lived in Friedrichsdorf. Warm up with a steaming hot glass of apple wine as one explores and makes the most of the markets’ o erings.

Uefa Euro 2024

Frankfurt will be one of ten host cities of the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament in Germany. e city will transform itself to include a “Football Village” to celebrate the football season. Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park will host ve matches of the European football league. Additionally, all 51 matches will be screened live at the city’s o cial football fan zone. e Football Village will be situated along the northern bank of the River Main, stretching 1.4 kilometres and will provide fans with a diversi ed programme of activities, including stages, special promotions, interactive events and delicious culinary o erings to make the most of the sporting tournament! e area will be designed to be sustainable and barrier-free and admission to the fan zone will be free of charge.
