Business Traveller India speaks to Pawan Shahri and Dhaval Udeshi, Co-Founders, of Chrome Asia Hospitality about their inspiring journey as entrepreneurs and more.

Can you share the inspiration behind starting Chrome Asia Hospitality in 2019 and how your vision has evolved over the years?

In 2019, the inspiration behind founding Chrome Asia Hospitality stemmed from a collective vision shared by us. We aimed to make a significant impact on Mumbai's F&B scene by introducing a blend of cultural influences across various establishments. From Gigi to Kaiā in Goa, and other ventures like Donna Delhi, Demy, Shy, and Eve, our holistic approach involves strategically identifying gaps in different locales and delivering memorable experiences. Over time, our vision has evolved to not only offer diverse culinary and lifestyle experiences but also to strategically expand, solidifying Chrome Asia Hospitality as a premier player in the competitive hospitality industry.

Scaling a hospitality chain within three years is impressive. Could you highlight some key strategies or milestones that have contributed to this rapid growth?

Scaling Chrome Asia Hospitality within three years has been an exciting journey marked by strategic decisions and key milestones. One crucial strategy was seizing the opportunity during the pandemic by securing prime spaces at reduced rents when many other restaurants closed down. This allowed us to lay the foundation for future growth. Another milestone was the introduction of innovative concepts like all-day cafés and bars, aligning with the emerging trend of 'revenge eating.' This not only diversified our offerings but also capitalized on daytime footfall, enhancing our overall market presence. Our ability to analyse trends, introduce

unique offerings, and strategically expand into diverse locales has played a pivotal role in our rapid growth within the competitive hospitality industry.

With a diverse portfolio of F&B brands and now a boutique hotel in Goa, how do you maintain a consistent brand identity while catering to different markets and demographics?

Ensuring a consistent brand identity across our diverse F&B portfolio and boutique hotel in Goa is a result of strategic choices and staying true to our core values. One key strategy has been our focus on prime locations, carefully selecting spaces in areas lacking premium dining options, such as Chembur and Powai. This allows us to cater to different markets while maintaining our commitment to quality. Recognising a market gap for all-day bars, we strategically launched outlets that filled this void, offering casual dining experiences that were missing in certain areas. For instance, Donna Deli provides an easy-going vibe, while Gigi stands out as a premium dining space designed for people to enjoy highquality conversations in an elegant setting. Additionally, when we ventured into Powai, which inspired the creation of Eve. It spans more than 650 sqm of space and strikes a perfect balance between premium and accessible dining. Each outlet, including the unique addition of Eve, contributes to our commitment to a diverse yet cohesive brand identity across our ventures.

What challenges did you encounter during the establishment and growth phases, and how did you overcome them to achieve success in such a competitive industry?

Embarking on our journey in the highly competitive F&B space in Mumbai was no

small feat. The industry, particularly in Bombay, is exceptionally cluttered, and entering just before the pandemic added an extra layer of complexity. While we take pride in our achievements so far, we humbly recognise that our growth journey comes with its set of challenges. Navigating through the uncertainties during the pandemic, when several establishments were shutting down, required resilience and adaptability. The F&B scene in India is thriving, and people's desire for unique dining experiences continues to grow. We understand the evolving dynamics, and our commitment remains to offer everything in one place — a visually appealing ambience, delectable food, and the perfect setting for conversations. Our approach is grounded in the understanding that continuous growth presents ongoing challenges, and we remain dedicated to learning and evolving in this dynamic industry.

Nestled along the southern coast of China, Hong Kong stands as a special administrative region, its boundaries defined by the Guangdong province to the north and the vast expanse of the South China Sea to the east, south, and west. The New Territories, extending predominantly to the north, along with a multitude of offshore islands, further enrich this tapestry, all leased from China for a span of 99 years, from 1898 to 1997.
