Business Traveller India speaks to Bharat Kapoor and Gaurav Bhatia Co-founders and Directors of Art of Time about luxury horology, strategic business expansion and more.
What are your strategic plans for expanding 'Art of Time' across India while maintaining the highquality luxury experience?
Bharat: Our strategic plan for our experiences has equipped us with expanding 'Art of Time' across India focusing on carefully selecting key metropolitan cities and luxury destinations or locations where we see a growing demand for high-end timepieces. The essence of our brand lies in the luxury experience we offer, and we must maintain that standard as we expand.
Gaurav: We are also exploring collaborations with other leading global watchmakers and new markets where we can bring the 'Art of Time' to the right audience. Our goal is to create not just a store but a destination for luxury watch enthusiasts. By maintaining our focus on quality over quantity, we ensure that our customers always receive personalised service and access to the most exclusive timepieces.
How have your previous experiences in the liquor, luxury automobile, and other industries influenced your approach to luxury retail?
Bharat: These industries taught us the importance of brand positioning, customer relationship management, and the power of storytelling in creating a luxury experience. Just as a premium whiskey or a luxury car is more than just a product, a high-end timepiece is an emotional purchase, often linked to
milestones and personal achievements.
Gaurav: We've applied the principles of exclusivity, meticulous attention to detail, and premium customer service from our past ventures to 'Art of Time.' The luxury consumer is discerning, and our experiences have equipped us with the understanding that every interaction must reflect the brand's commitment to excellence.
As avid collectors of watches and other luxury items, how do your personal passions shape the customer experience?
Bharat: As avid collectors ourselves, we understand the thrill of acquiring a rare or limited edition timepiece. This passion allows us to connect with our customers on a deeper level because we share their love for horology. We curate our collection with the same care and enthusiasm as we would for our personal collections, ensuring that each piece we offer is something we believe in and admire.
Gaurav: Our personal passions also drive our commitment to authenticity and education. We want our customers to appreciate not just the aesthetics of a watch but also its history, craftsmanship, and the innovation behind it. We often host events and private viewings where enthusiasts can learn more about the brands we carry, creating a community of informed and passionate collectors.
What have been the biggest challenges in the luxury retail space, and how do you envision overcoming them to achieve your
Bharat: The luxury retail space is constantly evolving, and one of the biggest challenges we face is adapting to changing consumer behaviours while maintaining the exclusivity that defines our brand. The rise of digital platforms, for example, has altered how customers interact with luxury brands. However, we've embraced this by enhancing our online presence while ensuring that the in-store experience remains unmatched.
Gaurav: Another challenge is managing growth while preserving the personal touch that “Art of Time” is known for. As we expand, we are committed to maintaining the high standards of service and exclusivity that our customers expect. To overcome these challenges, we are investing in staff training, adopting innovative technologies, and continuously refining our brand strategy to align with our long-term goals.
