PUBLISHING publishing précis
Panache is a special type of organization—a unique blend of creative professionals collaborating on your behalf to develop the most aesthetically pleasing, editorially engaging layout imaginable. Your publisher is part of a dedicated team of experts who love what they do: traffic coordinator— your photography submission expert; production coordinator—your contact for all things layout and the proverbial glue that holds the book together; graphic designer—your layout mastermind; editor—your personal word guru. We’re in constant communication with each other, making sure that we don’t miss a beat. And you can call us at any time.
Publishing is an art, but we have it down to a science. It takes a considerable amount of time to brilliantly design and write a couple hundred pages, and even once all layouts are complete, we’re at least four months away from receiving advance copies. Because there are so many stages of production, we’d like to begin collaborating with you as soon as possible. Left: South Coast Architects, Extraordinary Homes California
You submit photography. We design the layout. You review and approve your layout. We interview you and write the editorial. You review and approve your editorial. We update the layout. You review and approve your final layout. We continue this process until all layouts are complete. We organize and color-correct the book. We meticulously proofread the entire book four times. We send the final files to our printer. You receive your advance copy and show it to everyone you know. We anticipate the complete shipment of books. You receive your books and strategically place them all over the office.

GRAPHY photography Specifics:
Because it all starts with your photographs, the traffic coordinator will follow up with you regularly until we receive your CD of photographs. If you already know what photographs you’d like in your layout, please submit a CD right away. If you need new photographs taken, please arrange a professional photo shoot immediately. We may have a staff photographer in the area, so if you need a referral, just ask your publisher. Please let the traffic coordinator know if you are unable to submit your photographs within the next two weeks. Look for the traffic coordinator’s welcome email, which will include a photo release that we need you to send with your CD. When we receive your CD, we’ll review the files to make sure they meet our printing requirements.

LAYOUT layout
Seeing your professional efforts displayed in a beautiful layout is exciting. Once you submit your CD of photographs, the graphic designer will create your layout and the production coordinator will email you a PDF proof to review. The graphic designer is an expert who takes into account visual harmony, consistency, flow, interest, temperature and a bunch of other philosophical and technical aspects. You’ll work with the production coordinator to finalize your pictorial layout. It’s critical to promptly complete this step as the editor is eager to work with you.

ORIAL editorial
We want to present you in your best light, perhaps in ways you’ve never considered, and then fine-tune the editorial until you’re thrilled beyond belief. The first step is the interview—think of it as a casual conversation with someone who feels like an old friend. The editor will contact you to schedule a visit over the phone and then write your editorial and send it to you for review. Usually we nail it the first time but writing is conceptual, and sometimes it takes another try to match your tone and phrasing preferences—hang with us, we’re pros and we’ll figure it out together. Have confidence in the editor’s creative intuition, because the editor is considering your editorial in context of the entire book and knows what will make you stand out, in a good way.

Once you approve the editorial, you’ll receive a final proof—since you’ve already approved your layout and editorial, this step is fast and easy, a mere formality. How to get the best results: Submit background information for the editor to review before the interview. Open up, let the editor into your world—the editorial will be better for it.
Be patient while the editorial is being written. You can’t rush creativity. Review the editorial as soon as you receive it and let the editor know what you think. Questions? Call the editor directly.

ELEASE the book release
Knowing that your book will be on the shelves of major bookstores and specialty shops is a wonderful thing. And the fact that your book will be available on the cyber shelves of giants like Amazon is even better. How do the books get there? Panache has forged solid relationships with Independent Publishers Group for distribution in North America and Royal Institute of British Architects for distribution in Europe. The distribution channels are plentiful: we’ve tapped into conventional markets, as well as specialty niches like corporate gift giving and academia, and we’re committed to further exploring untraditional avenues to ensure maximum visibility for you. But that’s just a small part of what we do to promote your book. Even before we go to press, our public relations team is hard at work devising marketing campaign strategies—the timing of press releases, exclusive previews, review copies and followups—to formally introduce the book and secure media coverage.

Send an email announcement.
Feature the book in your newsletter.
Organize a personal book signing.
Display the book in your place of business.
Hold an industry-related charity event.
