Foreword Building on the lessons from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a transformation has been accomplished after 15 years. People were empowered, communities have been awakened, and some goals have been achieved. But the United Nations and different leaders from all over the world have decided to continue what the MDGs have started. On January 1, 2016, the Sustainable Development Goals were made into action. According to UN SecretaryGeneral Ban Ki-moon, the new set of goals were “a to-do list for the people and the planet, and a blueprint for success.” With 17 Goals and 169 target countries to wipe out poverty, fight inequalities, and tackle climate change, everyone needs to be included and that involves even the children. With partner organizations to pursue the global goals, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) structured 5 overarching areas of a child’s well-being and these are: Every child survives and thrives; every child learns; every child is protected from violence and exploitation; every child lives in a safe and clean environment; and every child has a fair chance in life. This human rights-based approach pursues a vision of realizing the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged and responds to the call to “no child should be left behind.” These 5 overarching areas are their contribution. This activity book may serve as a supplementary tool for learning facilitators in developing children’s values and empathy to the society that will pave way in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The honing of a child’s skill in being aware, involved, and creating small actions is essential in creating the sustainable future that we envision, that one small act is equivalent to one big part of change.
