The Rehearsal Dinner‌
Have
you ever been to a wedding that was stiff and boring? Chances are that everyone was on their best behaviour because the families are meeting each other for the first time. No one wants to rock the boat too much. How do you avoid this at your wedding? Simple, plan at least one pre wedding event where people get to know each other in a more relaxed environment.
The rehearsal dinner, perhaps unfortunately named , can be formal or take on a very casual vibe. Some people actually do it as a very informal BBQ or lunch event. Sometimes also picnics and party nights can help to break the ice between people so that by the day of the wedding everyone is comfortable around each other, perfect for your ultimate wedding day.

It’s a Date
S
o he has popped the question and you are both excited but what’s next? Among the many decisions that have to be made the date is one of the most important. What follows are a few tips and ideas your should keep in mind as you choose your date. The first consideration is to note that you are not only setting your wedding date but also the anniversary date, obvious right? Not always. Consider the implications for anniversary travel as it relates to costs, seasonality and time off from work.
So while it may be great to have that December wedding when your family is going to be on island for the holidays anyway ...spare a thought to the added cost of traveling in peak times for the wedding as well as for the future anniversaries. 6
Of importance also is setting a date that allows you to budget for the costs involved in getting married. We understand that you are excited but are you sure that you can pull all of the financing together in just six months?
Remember too that relatives who live off island will need plenty of notice so that they can request time off from work, they also need to save for that trip too so be considerate. With this in mind, invitations or save the dates should be sent off as early as possible but only when you have secured the critical services such as the venue, priest, etc.
To Consider: The Anniversary Date Enough time to save Family who have to travel Consider the weather Timing is everything Include the groom

Date
An often overlooked fact is the change in the length of day between the various seasons, a 5pm wedding is perfect on a long summer day when the sun will set at 6:35 pm but will leave you in trouble in December when the sun departs at 5:30. This will leave your photographer in a tizzy for sure. Whilst on the subject of time of day remember that too early is just as bad. The harsh sunlight of 2 pm will leave your guests in a pickle as well as give your photographer a headache dealing with the harsh shadows that will result.
Never lose sight of the reason for the celebration in the first place. Don't become so obsessed with the planning that you neglect those important relationships in your life. Also remember the groom, find ways to involve him in the planning process, perhaps he can help with the budget, music or setting the timelines. Whatever date and time you choose always manage that time well with deadlines for time sensitive things and time for socializing with your guests who have travelled for the occasion.

Dress to Impress
B
arbadians have always been a fashion conscious people and even though life evolves, that fact remains. We like to look our best and at no time is this more important than at a wedding. This is a time also where exclusivity is a must as no one wants to be one of the three ladies wearing the same outfit. Our friends at Blue Ice Boutique were kind enough to bring you some inspiration for those one of a kind outfits.

Perhaps one of the most important aspects of your wedding decor is your choice of center pieces and the accents. Here are a few ideas we have played around with recently. 24
25
Of course a center piece is the focal point of your table scape, which fits into your over all dĂŠcor concept. We believe that these decisions should be more about reflecting your style, taste and personality, than about what somebody says about the current trends in north America or Europe

Head Table Back Drop
J
ust as a beautiful picture needs a frame, a head table is incomplete without a suitable back drop. Some venues may have natural spaces that work well as back drops; a beautiful garden or water feature or strong architectural features. Where natural backdrops don't exist it’s a good idea to create one.
It also gives you the perfect frame for your wedding photography as well as an additional palette to express your wedding theme/ colours. Here are some of our favorite backdrops from our recent work. Can you see yourself as the guest of honor at one of these tables?

Choose an all in one Venue
If your wedding venue has accommodation book it so you can prepare for your wedding on site. It is convenient but also it saves you the stress of the trip on the day and importantly, the cost of a luxury car. Importantly also, few people give thought to what happens afterward the wedding...do you want to go home on your wedding night to a likely messy space? Stay overnight at the venue and then leave for your honeymoon the following day.

The Cocktail Party Wedding
Tired of the same old sit down dinner styled wedding? Cocktail weddings are now a trendy alternative you should consider. Should you be concerned about having something more substantial to eat then you can add a few food stations later on, perhaps a pasta station or some flying fish cutters. Corn soup can be a fun alternative that hits the spot. Party on by all means but please don't forget granny, or your other more mature relatives when you are having your cocktail styled wedding. The older folk are not comfortable standing all evening so seating should be provided for at least a quarter of your guest count.
36

Fully dressed and Prepared whatever the weather.
We are not witch doctors and neither are you. No one can tell if it will rain on your day. What you should do is be prepared. Remember also that it takes only 3 minutes of rain to soak all of the tables, chairs and, god forbid, guests. Cool if everyone is partying and the rain is a welcomed cooling shower. Not cool at all if it rains at the beginning of the meal and everyone's food becomes soup. Be a considerate hostess and book a fully dressed tent for an elegant event and peace of mind regardless of the weather. As you can see, there is a strong connection to the outdoors, but you will not be having a kitten when you wake up on the day to see clouds in the sky. 37

Surprise your new wife
Grooms....breakfast in bed the morning after is a really nice touch...not a great cook? No problem, perhaps booking her a morning after massage will thrill her.
5
Its your Wedding ‌ Damn it!!
More than anything else....while you are planning you are likely to get pressure for many sides as all and sundry try to live their dreams through your wedding. .Always remember...it is your special day, own it. Draw boundaries and make them known, you can make up to mother in law by assigning special duties to her care. That way you determine the extent of her input.

Here comes the bride The garden wedding has grown in popularity recently and many opt to do the ceremony and reception in the same outdoor space.
While the ceremony has remained fairly static through time there is some variation on the concept of the arch, with the chutzpah being the most popular variant. Here we showcase some of our favourite ceremonies from our work over the years. We start with this outstanding St James Villa wedding where a few touches was all that was needed to create an intimate yet dramatic luxury ceremony.

Some weddings are extra special ... because the personalities mesh so well. Not only the bride and groom but also the supporting cast of decor, photographer videographer and dj. We have chosen this wedding to be our first feature also because of the large role played by a meticulous groom no less, with a clear idea of what he wanted but who also trusted us enough to allow us the creative leverage to tweak and add to his concepts and ideas until we came up with a unique vision for his event. To put the picture a little more into context you should know that the groom was Nordic and the bride half English and half Bajan. And that a significant number of guests attending were flying in for the occasion. 57
The wedding started in the village where the bride grew up in St. Lucy. The rural church, decorated by the family of the bride for the occasion, was made even more quaint by the neighbours looking in through the windows during the ceremony. And the visiting Nordic family was clearly taken by the calypso twist to the wedding music. From St Lucy we crossed to the Hilton hotel on the opposite coast for the reception but not without a stop at the Sandy Lane country club for a photo op.

Celebration Bride
Being from a different visual culture, the groom wanted to celebrate the palm tree image so dominant in our beach culture but with a twist. Hence the white tower vases with the white feathers creating a visual replica of the palm tree. The colour scheme worked perfectly in the room because the colours of the room were taken into account. To pull it all together we used gold and teal lighting ( the wedding colours ) to softly light the space and create the right mood for the evening. The major challenge for us was to drape an already low ceiling knowing that the head table was going to be on a riser. We liked how it all came together and more importantly the couple and guests were very happy with it all.

Colour Scheme: Nothing can frustrate a bride more than trying to match her fantasy colour scheme, with the kaleidoscope of colours found in the carpets, curtains and walls at the host venue. Can you imagine decorating your wedding in your dream colours only to step back and take in the loud colours of the furnishings and dĂŠcor at some venues?
Solution: Sugarland Gardens has neutral colours throughout the property, giving you a large degree of flexibility to personalize and decorate our venue.
