‘Doctors in Concert’ fundraiser returns to in-person event April 29th supporting vital playful learning
Doctors inConcert returns in-person to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Bloomington at 6 p.m. on Friday,April 29. Presented byOSF HealthCareChildren’s Hospital of Illinois, the event features physician musicians performing classical and contemporary melodies on piano, violin, cello and guitar while the audience enjoys food, drink and a silent auction—all to raise funds for health-related initiatives at theChildren’s Discovery Museum.
“Events such as Doctors inConcert help us deliver the positive, informal STEAM learning that has empowered students, families and teachers inCentral Illinois since 1994,” said BethWhisman,CDM Executive Director.
Play has never been so vital for a generation of young learners. In response to achievement gaps in math and reading exacerbated by school disruptions during theCOVID-19 pandemic, many schools are focusing heavily on those subjects—with little-to-no science happening in classrooms this year.
“This is why informal learning settings such as theChildren’s Discovery Museum are so important right now, ”Whisman said. Museums are being called on nationwide by teachers and families to provide valuable STEAM learning that cannot take place in classrooms or at home.
“We hope we can count on our community to turn out and support our physicians who have practiced all year to perfect their performances and help our museum reach more children,” said EventChair EliseAlbers, who is the Population Health Manager withOSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois. Tickets, sponsorship information and a list of doctors performing can be found at www.childrensdiscoverymuseum.net.

Approximately 600 brave souls survived the 37 degree water temperature to raise more than $100,000 to support the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois. The plungers wore tutus, crazy hats, custom tshirts and even a mankini. Many first-time plungers and first-time sponsors joined the plunge this year.
