Mama Negra Party, color, dance and tradition forms the ancestral Mama Negra. This tradition dates back 170 years ago has strong indigenous and Spanish roots. In this event the dancers offer respect to the Virgen of Merced patron against the fury of the volcano as a thank to save them from the constant eruptions of Cotopaxi.
