SIMBIRIZZI WATER PARK Category: Academic Subject: Integrated Design Workshop_2 Year: 2009/2010 Location: Quartu Sant’Elena (CA) - Italy

The gravity centre of the project area is the study of the lake Simbirizzi basin, located in the province of Cagliari. After having identified the dominant characteristics of the different areas that surround the lake, the attention has been concentrated at the points where they meet, in order to study the mutual interaction and to redefine the existing spaces with targeted interventions. The Simbirizzi basin looks like the fulcrum of a park that takes on different interpretations depending on the context. The park takes up the character of urban park when it relates to the existing city, in the west. In this part of the proposed solution, the settlement types are suitable to form a bond between urban and green. The park takes up the character of agricultural park when dialogues with the existing fields. This part will be characterized by the possibility to live the agriculture of the territory, buying the land products and consuming them in dedicated areas set up next to farmland. 0

The issues of mobility and accessibility, defined as the ability to reach specific locations within reasonable time by the mean of architectural PIAZZA CASTELLO projects, are central to the construction of fair and sustainable cities. Home, health, safety, education, work and culture are crucial issues, all worthy of attention: if we look at the problems that the world’s citizens place on top of their needs, regardless which country they are living in, it always appears the move from a point to another one in the area. The reason is twofold: on the one hand, humanity lives of social relationships, cultural and material exchanges; on the other hand, the moving is not always easy, either in poor countries, or rich cities, although there is not a lack of common good examples for both urban and regional scale. In awareness of this, it seems appropriate to point out some simplified techniques for analysis of accessibility and mobility that allow to work in probabilistic logic, to estimate the magnitude and to build comparative solutions based on both qualitative and quantitative parameters. geografiche al trasporto pubblico. The ultimate goal that arises with the following equenza del servizio di trasporto pubblico alla suddetta fermata. a uno eccellente. thesis is to offer an overview about the main themes of mobility and accessibility design, illustrating the employed methodologies and the proposed final solutions on the basis of principles of consistency within the social, cultural and territorial specific context, of economic sustainability and of limitation of structural and environmental impact of the interventions.

PTAL (Public Transport Access Level) - Milan The PTAL is a method used in transport planning to assess the level of accessibility of geographic areas to public transport. The PTAL evaluation is based on distance of any point from the nearest public transport stop and on frequency of public transport services to that stop. The level of accessibility varies from the value 1 to the value 6. The value of 1 indicates a low level of accessibility, the value 6 indicates an excellent one.

EXISTING SPACE REDESIGN Category: Professional Typology: Office Year: 2017 Design: Dstudio Client: Advocates firm Location: Valletta - Malta UCF

In a small size room, due to the reorganization of the team, the client needed the design of two executive offices, fully furnished withdesk and storage units. Considering the reduced space available, the best design choice in terms of illumination and acoustic was the choice of sound proof gyspum/glass partition system. All the furniture are finished with spray paint and OAK veneer wood.

TENSILE PARKING SHADE Category: Academic Subject: Technical Architecture_3 Typology: Commercial Year: 2007/2008 Location: Cagliari - Italy

The aim of the course was the application of theoretical knowledges on tensile structures, got during the classes, by the design of a small architecture to be placed in the area of Colle san Michele, Cagliari. It was decided to create a shelter to be used as a covering for a parking area pertaining to a restaurant. The formal study of the structure was performed through the implementation on analytical models. All technical drawings were prepared manually. As conclusion of the exercise, a 3D model was realised for the final presentation of the project. plan (excerpt) - 1:100

Subject: Building Construction Workshop Typology: Office/Commercial/Residential Year: 2010/2011 Location: Cagliari - Italy

Throughout the workshop, the basic principles of architectural design were applied for the project of a sustainable residential complex located in Cagliari. A duplex building has been realized, developed on three levels and designed to meet different housing needs. The study of the dwelling type, the layout of the rooms and the plants are consistent with the climate zone in which the new building is included, paying attention to the concepts of energy and cost savings.

Subject: Thesis - Master’s Degree Typology: Residential Year: 2010/2011 Location: Selargius (CA) - Italy

The Master’s degree thesis “Residences in Selargius in accordance with GBC Protocol Italia” suggests the realisation of residential buildings with the support of a design guide for the sustainable buildings performance assessment. The residential complex includes units for three, four and five people, repeatable, extendable and adaptable to different housing needs. The design process considers components, materials and systems consistent with the concepts of sustainability, energy saving and low environmental impact promoted by GBC Council.

SUSTAINABLE HISTORICAL REFURBISHMENT

Category: Academic Subject: Sustainable Recovery Workshop Typology: Residential/Commercial Year: 2009/2010 Location: Pau (OR) - Italy

The building to be recovered is located in the small village of Pau, Oristano. The unit consists of an old structure dated to the late nineteenth century and has the constructive, typological and functional characteristics of the court house in Marmilla. The proposal for the sustainable recovery was based on the concept of maintenance of the morphological and structural characteristics matched by the new function of “Bed and Breakfast”.“ The project integrates energy saving and passive solar strategies.

The solar greenhouse has been designed made providing for the closure of the gallery. These closures have been realized with low-E glass that increase the greenhouse effect as reflect radiation of bodies internal environment without losses to the outside. The massive masonry leverages the thermal inertia ensuring optimal heat transfer in the evening winter. On the wall two vents have been laid to promote the exchange of air between the solar greenhouse and indoor environments. In the separation wall of the greenhouse an opening has been created to ensure sufficient natural lighting and to allow a direct solar energy gain.

Painting

A The project was born from the real needs of urban regeneration of Villanova, a historical district in the centre of Cagliari. The area is currently chatacterized by a considerable number of urban voids, buildings under renovation and ruins. The basic idea was to promote artistic activities by the regeneration of some of these buildings and spaces and developing three paths dedicated to sculpture, painting and architecture.
