PART 1
blog entry:
Honestly I was just happy I made it to the beach at all this summer. I had just finished a semester at school and had just enough saved up to fly out. Then if it wasn’t for an amazing sweetheart I would have been stuck at the Raleigh airport. So all I took with me was my clothes, a camera, Harness and Helmet. No Vehicle, no gliders, no surf or skateboards, and no computer (hence not many blog posts). I figured all I’d get to do was work, but boy was I wrong. A person without much can do whole lot in the summer, especially amongst so many good people. I’m very grateful to all, everyone, who made not just this summer’s, but any experience possible. Muchas Gracias! Summer 2010 absolutely incredible, full of highs and lows, and nonstop. I think I’m still recovering, or maybe I haven’t decided to yet. In any case a lot happened and I’ll be posting it in two parts. So enjoy the photos, comments, and memories of part 1.

SPECTACULAR
There was a big turn out for the spectacular, a good group from New York (which took home a lot of the prizes) some new pilots I was privileged to teach last year, some magazine and association representatives and even Dennis Pagen was out on the dunes. Of course there were all the local instructors and KHK alumni representing well and making it a very fun competition.

The weather was pretty good also. However I didn’t compete. In fact I was put to work right away after arriving (and after taking a few flights off the top). I taught lessons and watched as Father and Son from NY, got some lucky runs. It was a close event in both the beginner and advanced groups. Lucky for New York, I and few other instructors weren’t in

the mix. All joking aside, there was some very good flying from many pilots (and a lot of fun horsing around). I think good examples were set and the bar for performance was raised and 2011 is going to be exciting.

JUNE TRAINING
2010
This years group of new instructors was amazing in it’s self. Everyone worked very hard and learned fast. Most of them knew before they got there what they were in for. It’s hard
work, and can be very demanding and stressful. There were rough moments naturally but no gave up. Even more importantly I think all of them got their H2’s or were a few spot landings Top left: Alex Bottom left: Shawn Top: Getting trained Bottom: Preparing for Eaglet Wars

short of getting signed off. I was very impressed with everyone, and how much they would improve from day to day not only as pilots but also becoming great instructors. Eaglet

wars was also a blast. The new group really gave the experienced pilots a challenge. We pushed each other, to get better, some to get their H1’s then H2‘s, but mostly to have fun.
