The Class of 2022 has achieved outstanding success despite a tumultuous two years, with President Cyril Ramaphosa commending them for their incredible individual and collective performances in the face of adversity.
Among the other schools that did well in Thembisa is Armour Foundation, which had a 100% pass rate. In contrast, Tswelopele Secondary School scored only 62.3%.

“We must all work together to build a society where learners are not measured only by their resilience in testing times but where they can fulfil their potential in conducive conditions.
“The Class of 2022 has, through its commendable performance, made our future more hopeful; a future in which this generation of young South Africans will take our country to new heights.
“As much as we celebrate individual achievement, the Class of 2022 also
constitutes a pass for our education system; it vindicates the extensive and unwavering investment we have made in education during nearly 30 years of freedom,” the President said.
President Ramaphosa declared that South Africa’s incredible success in 2022 resulted from a remarkable educational trifecta: learners, teachers, and officials.
All three worked together to overcome difficult circumstances with steadfastness and dedication – paving the way toward prosperity for years.
“For the relatively small proportion of unsuccessful candidates, this is not the end of the road; you can pick yourself up and take advantage of a number of options that will empower you to continue your journey to success,” he said.

The DCS has recently taken swift action and apprehended one of their own after discovering they were selling application forms for learnerships. They’ve warned the public against any attempts to pay money in exchange for these documents, as there is no cost associated with obtaining them through legitimate sources.
Makgothi Thobakgale, the National Commissioner of Correctional Services, is warning all citizens not to purchase any learnership application forms under threat of legal action. A correctional official who sought profiteering by selling these documents
has already been detained and will be brought before justice swiftly. Don’t let yourself fall into such unlawfulness - it’s simply not worth the risk.
“DCS officials assisting with the process of submissions are not supposed to ask for money or any favour of kind, but are instead expected to guide applicants on where to submit and sign the submission register,” the department said.
Thobakgale condemned those taking advantage of the unemployed for their own personal gain.
“Although harsh realities of unemployment may leave citizens vulnerable, we urge people not to fall prey to these unscrupulous agents or those that may pose as DCS officials promising false placements,” he said.
The department called on the public to report any person selling these forms “to the nearest police station so that they can be arrested accordingly.”
“It is important to reiterate that there is no requirement for people to pay money when applying for learnership placements or employment in the public service.
“An advert for the learnership opportunity does highlight the requirements and competencies to be considered. There are no third parties or middle persons appointed by the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) to recruit nor process such applications,” the department said.

Meet the hottest DJ on the decks
By Harris Frank MtamathumbaMahlatse Tlhako, better known as Dj Mahlatse was born in Pretoria’s Mamelodi neighborhood — where her love for playing music was nurtured. In just four short years, she has made an incredible impact on South African nightlife with her signature mixes of hip hop, Amapiano, and house that never fail to get crowds off their feet. If you’re ever looking for a partyrocking experience, look no further; because when it comes to commanding every last drop of sweat from revelers’ pores, nobody does it like DJ Mahlatse.
“Growing up in Mamelodi was quite an experience. It was lovely but challenging. Where I am from is not perfect, but it played a huge role in who I am today.”
“I have been in the industry for over four years. The way I move around the decks is smooth and creative. I am not limited to House, Hip Hop, and Amapiano,” she tells Olifants News.
Having come from a creative family, Dj Mahlatse is no stranger to creativity. Her mother used to sing, and as a family unit, they love interior DIYs, art, and more. Her first gig was at shisanyama in Mamelodi. In those days, she only knew how to use a laptop, not a deck.
“It started out great for me, but I accidentally turned off the music. Eventually, I got it back on. The crowd went, “Ahh.” I think it was
the nerves. Overall, it was a great gig.” she recalled.
At just 23 years old, this muso has already achieved a remarkable amount in the music world. From playing at clubs throughout Gauteng to appearing on Soweto TV twice and performing at countless bars, and events across Pretoria, Soweto, and Johannesburg, it’s clear that her artistry is highly celebrated.

“My first gig on the decks was at a big bar in Johannesburg where I just messed up in front of over 300 people because it was a competition,
and I was the only lady participating out of eleven men. But a lot of people were supportive,” she said.
DJ Mahlatse is really making waves - in 2023; she’ll be spinning the decks across Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga! If you’re trying to make your Thembisa event one that won’t soon be forgotten, this DJ’s got just what you need. The Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS welcomed a local man’s sentencing for burglarising the JB Matabane Secondary School in August last year.
Sizwe Tshabalala, 33, of Extension Ten Ivory Park, was sentenced to an effective six years in prison by the Tembisa Magistrate Court on Friday. Tshabalala, considered a serial thief, was caught by security officers of the said school while he was busy stealing stationery and foodstuffs from the school. Seeing that he had been seen, Tshabalala dropped the items and fled but was caught while still on the school’s grounds.
“We are glad and proud that once
he was assigned the docket, Detective Constable Elvis Mangena made a thorough background check on Tshabalala, thus ensuring that bail was successfully denied and that he underwent the entire trial while in jail,” said Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the Ivory Park SAPS station commander.
Brigadier Ngcobo further congratulated Mangena for the sentencing, adding that sentences, although meted by the courts, rely heavily on the amount of evidence gathered by the police.
Brigadier Ngcobo said that the local schools will be delighted to know that one of the people who were bothering them has been withdrawn from their community for some time.

IVORY PARK SAPS is urgently seeking help from the community in identifying those responsible for Kwazinkiso Sibanda’s tragic death, which occurred roughly two months ago. Any information leading to justice brings hope and peace of mind, so they implore anyone who might know something to come forward.
On the evening of November 26th, at Clayville’s Extension 78, a gruesome discovery occurred when Sibanda’s lifeless body lay in an eerie stillness. Distraught community members reported their findings to the police, who took all necessary steps before transferring his remains to the government mortuary - from where it has remained unclaimed by any family member or known
relatives and friends. Fingerprints were used as an identification, but unfortunately, there are no images available that could provide more detail on this tragedy.
“If anyone knows who this deceased man is or had a family member or friend who is missing, they are welcome to call the Ivory Park police on 011 990 9600 or alternatively contact Detective Sergeant Ndivhuwo Muige on 061 773 1525,” the police said in a statement.
If the next of kin fails to come forward, the deceased may be buried as a pauper.

Rivalani Atweli Muswana, Maoto Frank Maduane, and Lynton Maile joined forces for this incredible event that began their year on a high note. Their journey began in 2020 when Mntonga was one of many runners from Thembisa who participated virtually (at a safe distance!) by taking part in the Cape Town Virtual Race that brought together thousands worldwide for what became its very own celebration of human perseverance and determination.
“The race was awesome, and it was the first race we did in the year 2023. We didn’t train very well, and we are coming off a holiday season. But we did it,” Mntonga told the Olifants News.
In Thembisa, many young people involved in sports and arts feel the government has let them down. Mntonga, however, believes that the government plays a huge role in supporting sports.
