AFreedom Sneaker was launched at Tata Madiba’s house in Houghton on the 2nd of April. The Freedom Sneaker is a tennis shoe that Tata Nelson Mandela used to wear in prison; veteran artist Mama Esther Mnguni painted the replica using chicken feather brushes.

The event was attended by celebrities, influencers, government officials, and fashionistas. His Majesty King Makhosonke II Mabhena of the amaNdebele kingdom unveiled the Umgwalo Freedom Sneaker.
In a speech delivered at the event, Deputy Minister, Ms. Nocawe Mafu thanked everyone that attended the event.
