“My favorite image would have to be the first one. It really showcases my crazy sense of styling, which I love so much. Also, Martina and I were lucky enough to have the whole green house to ourselves for this session, minus the three men that were working. We couldn’t stop laughing at the thought of what they must have been thinking!” -April Cormier 5

“This image captures the spirit of the editorial. I love how her eyes are closed as the wind messes with her hair and earrings while she still remains calm and serene. This editorial was produced in my hometown, a small city called Jaú, in São Paulo, Brazil. I would walk by this building (a deactivated clothing factory) and always feel like it was trying to say something to me, like it was asking to be photographed. But it didn’t happen until I started reading Neuromancer, by William Gibson. Suddenly, the clothing factory took on new meaning for me as I started to conjure up visions described from the book. So, I put together this great team from a bigger city near Jaú to bring my vision to life. We shot all day long on a Sunday, starting around 8 a.m. and stopping only when the sun had gone. The weather was amazing, perfect for the mood of the shots (and responsible for them too). I ended up with more than 1,500 images that was edited down to 20.” -Israel Denadai

“The main theme developed in this editorial revolves around the deep and sometimes disturbing resonance of photography through time. Each second can be frozen in a picture, becoming a singularity that can overlap or resonate through space. And this shot is a glance through two dimensions that meet, questioning reality. The bay window of the loft offered plenty of natural light but the hard part of this shot was actually holding the camera perfectly still three meters up in the air. -William Labourier 42

“This shot was particularly tricky. The location was very cramped, so we didn’t get the right light. Ultimately, we just waited for the sun to shine through the windows above. Nothing beats natural light.” -Florian Maas & Aglaja Brix

“Personally, the first image stands out to me. It’s a good summation of the whole story. Playful, but not in a humorous way. Its obvious raggedness doesn’t detract from its intense, sharp feeling. Colorful, but not fun. Aggressive, but not angry. So many colliding ideas that shouldn’t work together, but seemingly do.” -Joshua Pestka 65

“Everything came together in this photo: the amazing minimal dresses by Vilve Unt, the hair, make-up, light and poses. This editorial was my first attempt with using a tilt shift lens. I rented a Canon 90mm tilt shift and absolutely loved the blurry effect. What I like most about this photo is the tender pose and communication between the two models. By the way, the location is a small manor house in Albu, Estonia that serves as a school. I found it on the internet browsing Estonian manor houses and fell in love with the wall painting instantly. -Maiken Staak 116

“We met for this shoot last year, it was in November so you can imagine how cold it was outside. After taking wider shots, I concentrated on portraits. I totally forgot that he could easily wear some more clothes since I was taking only pictures of his face. So, he stood there for quite some time, with a runny nose almost freezing, but as a pro he didn’t mention a single word about feeling uncomfortable.” -Joanna Drazek

“I love shooting through windows, so when I saw this incredible fairy-tale house in one of the Turin gardens, I immediately wanted to take a picture of Lea in the window. I was lucky enough there were birds flying and I managed to capture a reflection of it that makes this image even more powerful. It’s one of my favorite images so far. A little secret about the process? Even though Lea is a tall girl, the window was quite high, so she had to stand on the tips of her toes for quite a long time to let me capture it right.” -Julia Morozova 178
