GA ZE DISRUPT THE CYCLE

Growing up in the Peterborough area, I felt I would need to move away to ‘make it’ as an artist. The type of art I wanted to make didn’t seem like ‘real art’ and I tried for a long time to fit the box of what I thought an artist was. I devised this project to publish work exclusively made by local women and other marginalised genders. To say: it’s OK to make illustration, typography, graphics, prints, crafts. In fact it’s amazing. Make the work that you want to make, for the reasons you want to make it. That’s a radical act of feminism in itself. AMANDA RIGBY, PAPER RHINO

My work is very focused on the human form and portraiture. However, rather than imitating exactly what I see, I am more interested in how the human form works in relation to the mind, and specifically in how the different ways in which we speak to ourselves internally might be embodied. I utilise different colours and textures to explore the vibrancy, confusion and depth of the always-dreaming, alwaysworking human mind. AGGIE DOLAN

I’m interested in the politicisation of fabric arts and the subversion of what’s traditionally considered a female craft. I work on a variety of themes but I’m really interested in sewing bodies. I think the delicate nature of embroidery lends itself to the tiny details and texture of skin and clothes. I like perceived flaws and imperfections and sewing different people and body types. I try not to ever take an opportunity to learn for granted. If I’m not learning, I don’t feel like I’m growing... and I am pretty short, so growing is important! FIONA CIFALDI
