37181 PAPI PROGRAM 6 10_5_2018

THE STORY OF THE UGLY DUCKLING Mother Duck and Grandmother Duck watch as Mother Duck’s eggs hatch at their home pond. The new family explores their new surroundings and it becomes clear one of the ducklings is quite different from the others. The family continues its explorations at a nearby farm where they encounter the farmer’s children and the villagers. The children and villagers tease the Ugly Duckling and she runs away. Alone, the Ugly Duckling re-enacts her memories from the farmyard but is distracted when two friendly Wild Geese join her. They invite her to join them. Unfortunately, two Hunters scare them away and the Ugly Duckling escapes into an oncoming thunderstorm. (Dancers will appear as clouds.) The Ugly Duckling finally finds refuge at the front door of the Old Lady’s house. She takes in the Ugly Duckling, but her Cat and Hen frighten the Ugly Duckling, who flees the scene. Alone and scared, the Ugly Duckling hears sounds of Swans. The Ugly Duckling watches, fascinated with their dance, but as it grows cold, they fly away. She remains behind and almost freezes on the pond. A kind Peasant Man finds her and carries her home. The Peasant Man’s children want to play with her, but the Ugly Duckling is exhausted. They startle her, and in her fright, she creates a ruckus, which in return upsets the Peasant Man's Wife, who is holding some kitchen tongs. The Peasant Man's Wife with the tongs tries to grab the Ugly Duckling and the poor Duckling again flees. Alone, she notices she has changed. Swans return and the Ugly Duckling realizes that she has found her family. She is a swan.
