Riders In The Sky Sun, Nov 26 @ 6 & 8:30 pM For more than thirty-five years riders in The sky have been keepers of the flame passed on by Gene autry and roy rogers, reviving and revitalizing the genre. While remaining true to the integrity of Western music, they have themselves become modern-day icons by branding the genre with their own legendary wacky humor and wayout Western wit, all along encouraging fans to live life “The Cowboy Way!” in addition to being inducted into the Grand Ol’ Opry, riders are in the Western music association’s hall of Fame, the Country music Foundation’s Walkway of stars, and the Walk of Western stars along with Gene, roy, John Wayne and other cowboy legends. along with two Grammy wins, riders have been the Western music association’s “entertainers Of the year” six times, and won “Traditional Group of the year” and “Traditional album of the year” multiple times. The academy of Western artists has named them “Western music Group of the year” twice in 5 years, and the national Cowboy & Western heritage museum has bestowed riders with their Wrangler award statuette three times. it comes as no surprise then that billboard magazine counts them as one of “the most significant acts in the history of american music.”

While a handful of other players were using similar techniques, stanley’s fluid, multi-layered textures and sheer virtuosity raised the bar for excellence. To date Jordan has performed in over 60 countries on 6 continents. he has performed at many festivals, including the kool Jazz Festival, the Concord Jazz Festival, and the montreaux international Jazz Festival. during the 1980s he collaborated with a diverse array of artists, including performances with art blakey and richie Cole and recordings with stanley Clarke and kenny rogers. the lettermen Fri, Jan 26 @ 7 pM The lettermen are Tony butala, donovan Tea and bobby Poynton. The vision of The lettermen was of three very strong soloists who had the ability and showmanship to perform and entertain an audience, but who also had the discipline needed to be group singers. The sound they came up with was a sound between the big band vocal groups such as the modernaires, Pied Pipers, mills brothers, Four Freshmen and the early r&b rock groups such as the ink spots, Flamingos and the Platters. in a career that has spanned over 45 years, The lettermen scored over 25 chart hit singles, including “Theme From a summer Place,” “Goin’ Out of my head/Can’t Take my eyes Off you,” and “hurt so bad.” Their signature sound made romantic standards of songs such as “smile,” “Put your head On my shoulder,” “shangri-la,” “love,” “Traces/memories,” and many more. among 32 consecutive albums, which charted in billboard magazine’s Top 40, four were certified gold.

charles lloyd and the Marvels thurs, Feb 1 @ 7 & 9:30 pM iconic saxophonist Charles Lloyd is one of the first jazz artists to sell a million copies of a recording. From the moment he first came to prominence as the young music director of the Chico hamilton Quintet in 1960, to his time with the Cannonball adderley Quartet, lloyd began to take audiences on journeys that traversed enormous distances. Over nearly five decades, his compositions have punctuated the post-bop period, embraced the traditional music of a host of world cultures, and enlivened the psychedelic 1960s with avant-garde improvisation. in 2016 lloyd continued his innovative trajectory into the upper spheres of jazz with the release of i long to see you, a recording of pristine beauty, refined elegance, passionate emotion, and spiritual sensitivity. lloyd enlisted the rhythmic core of his stalwart new Quartet ensemble—bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Eric Harland—and invited top-tier collaborators including guitarist extraordinaire Bill Frisell and stellar pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz. appropriately lloyd has dubbed the quintet The marvels.
