Waters’ primary influences were jazz icons Duke ellington, Charlie parker, Coleman hawkins, herbie hancock, George benson, paul Desmond, and Cannonball adderley. his first instrument – at age 8 – was the violin (“That didn’t go over well with the fellas” says Waters) and within five years he found his true calling on the alto and soprano saxophones. soon after, he organized his first professional band with his brothers, James (who still performs with him) and eric, and his hometown friend (and soonto-be jazz piano legend) Cyrus Chestnut. subsequently, Waters has shared stages with many of the best including ray Charles, al Green, isaac hayes, phyllis hyman and Grover Washington, Jr. to name a very few. Tuck & Patti Sun, Jan 19, 2020 @ 7 PM Vocalist Patti Cathcart and guitarist Tuck Andress have been a steady performing duo for so long now, going on three decades, that it’s somewhat surprising that I Remember You zeroes in on the Great American Songbook. Surely they’ve already recorded their take on these enduring standards. But no, it just seems so, seems as if everything they’ve written and recorded is already a standard. In their 11 previous releases, only a handful of tunes would fall under the typical, pre-rock era, standards banner. Over the course of their career, the duo has shared the stage with, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, the Modern Jazz Quartet, Cab Calloway…the list goes on and on. This show is an Independent Artist’s Production, supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
The Kingston Trio Sat, Feb 1, 2020 @ 7 PM Fans of legendary folk icons The Kingston Trio will soon have an opportunity to re-discover their timeless music on a national tour to mark the group’s 60th anniversary performing many of the Trio’s best-loved songs. All three current members, Mike Marvin, Tim Gorelangton and Don Marovich, have intrinsic links to and experience with the original group: Mike is the “adopted son” of founding member Nick Reynolds, who was also his musical mentor; Tim, a close friend since boyhood, is one of the few musicians outside the Trio who has recorded with Nick Reynolds; and Don Marovich, who has performed with the Trio and who plays the guitar, banjo and mandolin. Many of their personal memories recall the iconic trio’s performances and journey as folk music made its extraordinary ascent to the pinnacle of popular culture – and the top of the music charts. Cited as an influence by recording artists as musically and generationally diverse as Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Eagles to comedian and banjo player Steve Martin to contemporary artists such as the multi GRAMMY nominated Mumford & Sons and The Avett Brothers, The Kingston Trio occupies a unique, preeminent position in American musical history.

Mary Wilson of The Supremes fri, feb 21, 2020 @ 7 & 9:30 PM it was a vision of musical stardom as a Detroit teen that inspired mary Wilson, along with Diana ross and florence ballard, to found one of the most successful female singing groups in recording history – The supremes. since then, Wilson has written a best-selling autobiography, performed on stage and screen, lectured and toured the world, and continues to be looked up to as a singer who set the standard for females in the recording industry. in her “Mary Wilson: Up Close” show, she wowed audiences with an intimate selection of standards and easy-listening tunes that showcased her smoky voice and vocal prowess. but four decades and 40 albums later, what once started as a dream has exceeded beyond Wilson’s wildest imagination. The supremes has an unprecedented 12 number-one hits, including five in a row – “Where Did Our love Go,” “baby love,” “stop, in The name Of love,” and “back in my arms again” – The supremes set the precedent for super group success. in 1988, The supremes were inducted into the rock & roll hall of fame, receiving the prestigious lifetime achievement award, which Wilson personally accepted. With a successful solo career – and new CD out this spring – an equally successful literary career and her tireless humanitarian efforts, Wilson’s future couldn’t look brighter. she is living proof that dreams really do come true!

Wishbone ash Sun, feb 23, 2020 @ 6 PM The classic rock bands of the late ’60s and early ’70s enjoy a unique place in popular musical history. The beatles had gone their separate ways, britain had already experienced the blues boom, and psychedelia had made its impact. Wishbone ash embarked on the nascent progressive rock scene in 1969, they were inspired equally by british folk traditions, as well as american jazz and r&b. it was then that the group first played to public and critical acclaim. more than 45 years later, having pioneered the use of twin lead guitars, Wishbone ash has gained worldwide recognition, based firmly on a regime of relentless touring. They are the quintessential road band and an acknowledged influence on many other bands including Thin lizzy and iron maiden. power and melody have made the ash a hard act to follow, while they are currently being discovered by new generations of loyal rock fans. Today, the band is still going strong, with most of their vast catalog intact on CD, an award-winning website, and a date sheet the envy of many other bands. recording highlights are, of course, the multimillion selling 1972 album “Argus,” considered to be one of the all-time classic rock albums, together with “pilgrimage” (1971) and “New England” (1976). more recently, “The Power of Eternity” (2007), “Elegant Stealth” (2011) and “Blue Horizon” (2014) garnered enthusiastic praise.
The Steeldrivers Wed, feb 26, 2020 @ 8 PM Throughout their career, one that encompasses four highly acclaimed albums and any number of awards and accolades, the steelDrivers have proven they are one of the, “Gutsiest, grittiest bluegrass bands around,” according to The Tennessean. selfdescribed as what the rolling stones would sound like if they played banjos, fiddles and mandolins, the group has garnered critical acclaim and legions of fans with its that rock-n-roll edged music played on traditional instruments. What began as a casual get-together to jam in the late summer of 2005 became a fully committed band that earned a Grammy nomination on their first release.” That honor was followed two years later, when the steelDrivers received two more nominations for Reckless, their sophomore set, one for best bluegrass album and another for best Country performance by a Duo or Group with vocals. The band’s third album, Hammer Down, climbed all the way up to number one on the billboard bluegrass charts. The steelDrivers‘ highly acclaimed fourth album, The Muscle Shoals Recording, featuring a guest performance by Jason isbell, garnered the group that long elusive Grammy win with a notable nod for best bluegrass album. “you can call it power-bluegrass or country soul, but whatever you call it, nashville’s steeldrivers have bushels of it.” The Philadelphia Inquirer

One World’s Kidsreach Program One World’s Kidsreach Program has the goal to educate & inspire our youth with cultural arts performances & workshops. One World’s commitment to Austin and youth is stronger than ever, with world-class concerts, kids and family programming, multi-cultural in school assemblies, free shows for schoolchildren & social services organizations through-Storybooks Brought to Life, summer camp scholarship for military families, Berklee Scholarship Program for aspiring musicians, and more. SCHOOL SHOWS One World is the largest multi-cultural arts-ineducation outreach in Austin and has served more than a million children since its inception in 1993. This outreach program continues today and features local artists from around the world. FIELD TRIPS Using live theatre as a catalyst to motivate youngsters to read, One World inspires young readers in our “Storybooks Brought to Life” field trip program. The theatre experience is longer lasting and more meaningful when youngsters are engaged in dialog; therefore, One World provides study guides incorporating show related activities that encompass language arts, geography, science and more! CamP OnE WORLD In just one week, campers go from auditions to opening night as they step on stage for a public performance as graduates of Camp One World! Led by national touring company, Missoula Children’s Theatre (link to www.mctinc.org), participants learn how to produce musical theatre from the inside out. Through our Military Scholarship Program, “A World Apart, A Moment Together” One World is able to allow our enlisted service men and women currently overseas to view their children as they perform on stage during Camp One World. BERKLEE COLLEGE OF mUSIC Music students who are considering professional status in the music industry are able to study with One World’s trained local music instructor, the PULSE method offered by the Berklee College of Music. One World, as a non-profit Berklee partner (35 nationally), can audition up to five students for scholarships to a five-week summer course at the Berklee College campus in Boston.
