GARRISON KEILLOR Garrison Keillor was born in 1942 in Anoka, Minnesota, and began his radio career as a freshman at the University of Minnesota, from which he graduated in 1966. He went to work for Minnesota Public Radio in 1969, and from July 6, 1974 through July 1, 2016, he created and hosted his popular variety show, A Prairie Home Companion, for some 3.5 million listeners on 700 public radio stations coast to coast and beyond. Keillor has been honored with Grammy, ACE, and George Foster Peabody awards, the National Humanities Medal, and election to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His many books include Lake Wobegon Days, The Book of Guys, Pilgrims: A Wobegon Romance, Guy Noir and the Straight Skinny, and The Keillor Reader (Viking). He is the host of the daily program The Writer’s Almanac and the editor of several anthologies of poetry, most recently, Good Poems: American Places (Viking). In 2006, Keillor played himself in the movie adaptation of his show, a film directed by Robert Altman. In 2007, he opened an independent bookstore, Common Good Books, in St. Paul, the city where he and his wife make their home.
RICHARD DWORSKY Richard Dworsky is a versatile keyboardist/composer/recording artist/producer/music director, and is known for his amazing ability to improvise compositions on the spot in virtually any style. For 23 years (1993-2016), he served as pianist and music director for Garrison Keillor’s hugely successful A Prairie Home Companion, a live public radio variety show with, at its peak, over 4 million listeners. He provided original theatrical underscoring, led the house band, and performed as a featured soloist. He also accompanied Keillor and many of his guests including James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Chet Atkins, Emmylou Harris, Carole King, Elvis Costello, Taj Mahal, The Everly Brothers, Yo-Yo Ma, Brad Paisley, Renée Fleming, Kristin Chenoweth, Shawn Colvin, and Mark Knopfler. He has appeared on many of Keillor’s CDs (including five nominated for Grammys) and videos, and in TV specials on The Disney Channel, PBS, and the BBC. Dworsky made his on-screen film debut as pianist/bandleader in the 2006 Robert Altman film, A Prairie Home Companion, with an all-star ensemble cast including Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Woody Harrelson, John C. Reilly, Lindsay Lohan, Kevin Kline, and Keillor. Richard also served as the film’s music director, arranger, and composer. He frequently appears with Keillor in concerts as a duo, with orchestras, and with touring bands.
HEATHER MASSE Although trained at the New England Conservatory of Music as a jazz singer, New York singer/songwriter Heather Masse is equally versed in a variety of American song traditions, which influences her more prevalent work in folk, pop, and bluegrass. A member of the Billboard-charting folk group, The Wailin’ Jennys, she has performed at hundreds of venues across the world. She has been a frequent guest on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion, both as a solo performer and as a member of The Jennys. On the show, she has collaborated with artists such as Elvis Costello, Wynton Marsalis, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, and Emmylou Harris. Ms. Masse has performed with the renowned contemporary bluegrass band The Wayfaring Strangers and in 2006, recorded an eponymous album with Joy Kills Sorrow, a contemporary stringband from Boston.

2017–18 SEASON-AT-A-GLANCE
PETER BAY, music director DISNEY FANTASIA: LIVE IN CONCERT Friday, October 20, 2017 Michael & Susan Dell Hall, 8:00 p.m.
OCTOBER POPS
Disney shares one of its crown jewels of feature animation with a live orchestra concert accompanying scenes from Walt Disney’s original FANTASIA (1940) and Disney FANTASIA 2000, highlighting a selection of the magnificent repertoire from both films, including Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite. Other iconic moments from Disney’s stunning footage, such as Mickey Mouse as he dabbles in magic in Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and the mythical unicorns and winged horses that accompany Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, will also be shown in high definition on the big screen. This is one you won’t want to miss! I HEART THE 80’S™ Friday, December 29, 2017 Saturday, December 30, 2017 Palmer Events Center, 8:00 p.m. Put on your best parachute pants, jelly bracelets, and jean jacket, because the Austin Symphony is transporting you back to the 1980s!
