The Golden Dragon Acrobats hail from Cangzhou, Hebei province, in the People’s Republic of China and have toured the United States continuously since 1978. Its members are athletes, actors and artists who have studied and trained for their craft since early childhood. The group averages 200 performances each year and has toured through all 50 states and in over 65 countries across the world. In 2005, their Broadway debut and seven-week run at the New Victory Theater earned two prestigious New York Drama Desk Awards nominations (for Best Choreography and Most Unique Theatrical Experience). The troupe returned to the Broadway venue for the holiday 2014 season, making them the ONLY acrobatic troupe from China chosen to perform twice at this prestigious venue! The group’s founder, producer and artistic director, Danny Chang, is one of the world’s leading promoters of Chinese acrobatics. He began his training at the age of eight with his family’s acrobatic school in Taipei, and joined its touring wing, the Golden Dragon Acrobats, at age ten. He is the recipient of

thelongcenter.org

many awards, including the prestigious Medal for International Faith and Goodwill by the Republic of China’s Coordination Council for North American Affairs. In 1998, Chang restructured the Golden Dragon Acrobats to form Asian Artists Productions, Inc. (AAPI). While the new company continued to produce and tour the Golden Dragon Acrobats, AAIP expanded to create theatrically elaborate shows like Circo Magnifico, Dream, Pagoda, Cirque D’or and others, each for a specific US market. In particular, Cirque Zíva (which premiered for ten straight weeks at Asbury Park Boardwalk’s Paramount Theatre), went on to tour across North America with a fourmonth premiere in 2013, and consecutive encore tours in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The troupe’s reputation remains solidly rooted in a commitment to the highest of production values and an attention to artistic details that is unparalleled in the art form… award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music and theatrical techniques... to present a show of breathtaking skill and spellbinding beauty. ■

LONG REACH FOR THE ARTS

WHERE YOU INSPIRE LOCAL CHILDREN The Long Center is committed to sharing the excitement of live performances and our world-class entertainment facilities with diverse audiences. Thanks to donors at all levels, the Long Center is pleased to offer the Long Reach for the Arts community outreach initiative. Through Long Reach for the Arts, we donate thousands of tickets every year to Central Texas schools, as well as social and communitybased service organizations for

distribution to students and clients. From 2008-2016, Long Reach for the Arts has gifted more than $300,000 in tickets to 60+ organizations. Teachers and organizers report positive impact on young participants, including increased social skills and self-confidence. Through the generous support of donors like you, we can continue expanding our impact and helping give even more tickets to under-served community groups. â–

REDD CARPET INITIATIVE

Sponsored by 3M

WHERE YOU SUPPORT EMERGING LOCAL ARTISTS Your generous donation to the Redd Carpet Initiative helps local artists create, collaborate and inspire audiences. Gifts of all sizes provide Austin-based artists and arts organizations with access to the same exceptional performance spaces and equipment used by world-class artists who call the Long Center home. From 2013-2016, the Redd Carpet Initiative has awarded more than $415,000 in rental subsidies to 65 local arts organizations. The black-

box format of the Rollins Studio Theatre helps smaller community groups take their performances to the next level. Beneficiaries of the Redd Carpet Initiative include Austin Shakespeare, Pollyanna Children's Theater, Tapestry Dance, FUSEbox Festival, Teatro Vivo and Austin Improv Collective. Performances such as the Intergalactic Nemesis realized their dreams at the Long Center through the Redd Carpet Initiative before going on to perform a 60-city international tour. â–

A World Apart, A Moment Together One World & TRIAD funds of the San Antonio Area Foundation Connecting Central Texas Military Families One World’s innovative performing arts summer camp program provided scholarships through TRIAD funds of the San Antonio Area Foundation to give kids the opportunity to be a part of the musical production of “Wizard of Oz.” When the campers took the stage every parent, no matter where they were located, including Iraq was able to see their child perform. Using amazing video technology generously provided by a partnership with LifeSize Communications, seven military bases were connected to One World Theatre, so that parent and child could see, talk and interact with each other as if they were in the same room. After the performance, each child and their family was given the opportunity to talk privately with their loved one, keeping the bond of family alive across the miles.
