Ricordo ancora la sensazione quando ho trovato in un magazzino del nastro di plastica degli anni '60 in una piccola azienda tessile in Dalarna, nel cuore della Svezia, dove avevo appena iniziato a tessere i miei tappeti in lino. Stavo cercando una mia forma di espressione, una combinazione fra artigianato di alta qualità, design moderno e funzionalità. Improvvisamente, con questi nastri, un nuovo mondo si aprì davanti ai miei occhi! Insieme con gli artigiani della filanda, iniziai a sperimentare con i nastri in plastica ed a sviluppare nuove tecniche, modelli e colori. E’ nato così il sogno di realizzare il classico tappeto svedese in un materiale innovativo e di portarlo ad un livello più elevato. Con un materiale di maggiore spessore e con grandi motivi colorati i tappeti Pappelina hanno raggiunto l’obiettivo e conquistato il cuore degli svedesi. Ed è così che siamo dove siamo oggi. Pappelina continua a crescere ma il cuore è rimasto quello del piccolo artigianato locale in Dalarna. E’ solo il nostro mercato che è diventato globale.
IT ALL BEGAN 1999 I can still recall the feeling I had when I first found a stock of plastic ribbons from the 60’s at a small weaving mill here in Dalarna. I had just begun weaving my linen rugs and was looking for my own form of expression, one that combined high-quality craftsmanship with modern design and functionality. Suddenly, with those ribbons, a whole new world opened up to me! Along with the craftsmen of the mill, I began experimenting with the ribbons, developing new colours, techniques, patterns – elevating the classic plastic rug of Sweden to a whole new level. Twice as thick and with bold-coloured patterns, the Pappelina rug began to take the world by storm. And that’s how we are where we are today. Pappelina is growing, yet at our core remains small-scale local Dalarna craftsmanship. It is only our market that has grown to be global.

Forse lo riconoscete! La lampada di voga durante gli anni ’60. Abbiampo deciso di fare la nostra versione. Il paralume è avvolto con lo stesso tipo di strisce di plastica che usiamo per i nostri tappeti. La lampada è prodotta in edizione limitata da Pappelina in Dalarna.
Maybe you recoqnize it! The lamp that was popular during the 60’s. We decided to do our own version. The lampshade is made out of the same kind of plastic stripes used in our rugs. Produced in a limited edition in Dalarna, Sweden. Only for the European market.
