20 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE 20 years ago, I rolled out my first plastic rugs under the brand name Pappelina. Back then, my product was considered revolutionary because it combined a new, yet old material with modern design and traditional craftsmanship. Throughout the years I have remained fascinated by the unlimited number of possibilities offered through the process of weaving. These opportunities give rise to new ideas and new designs. However, my dreams and designs would be nothing without the weaving mill in Leksand. That is where all ideas are fully realised and it is the place where all Pappelina rugs are made by our skilled craftspeople using our old, reliable, mechanical looms. Over time, the numbers of staff and looms have increased. Certified materials made in Sweden have replaced the plastic ribbons from the 1960’s that once inspired me and opened up so many new opportunities. The materials we use today meet all the rigorous requirements of current environmental, health and safety standards. Apart from that, most traditions remain the same within the company and this makes me very proud. Even today with our rugs selling in 48 countries worldwide, we remain true to our core values of combining Swedish craftsmanship with modern design and functionality. All Pappelina rugs are made at our local weaving mill in Leksand, Dalarna. To the sound of wooden shuttles rushing forth and back – a well-coordinated interplay between loom, warp and weft – create the pattern of choice. Each rug we make represents a piece of Swedish craftsmanship and thanks to great composition, high quality materials and devoted craftsmen and -women, we bring you the durable, contemporary and colourful design that is Pappelina.
