MESSAGE

from LT-Jack Aloha Paradise!

Now that we’re all back in school I want to wish a warm welcome to all the new members. I hope you’ve all found everlasting friends and your home away from home.

JACK MIAO paradise lieutenant governor

So far we’ve been holding monthly DCMs and recently had our Paradised Washed challenge; a challenge where Circle K members all over the district donated and/or walked 6k to simulate the challenges children in Haiti face every day. A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped us raise nearly $100. In November we have UCSD’s Masquerade Ball to look forward to on the 17th. I hope to see you all there, it’s a night you do not want to miss. I can’t wait to see you all this year and be part of your Circle K journey!

4

Sincerely, Jack Miao

Hello everyone! It’s so exciting to finally release another newsletter, and this time with a theme to come along with it. October is one of my favorite times of the year because of how cool it is to design sp00ky things, and this newsletter was scheduled to release on the spookiest day of the year, Halloween! There’s plenty of cool articles and people to see here, especially the promotion of Masquerade Ball. I loved Masquerade Ball last year and am excited to see what this year brings, especially being the one with the most features so far! I really hope you get to enjoy this especially spooky edition of our Pair of Dice Newsletter, I’ll see you in December! Sincerely, Aaron Zepeda

Taste of Rancho Santa Fe is an event that was hosted by the Rotary Club of CSU San Marcos which CSU San Marcos CKI had the honor of volunteering at. From our club, we had Jakob WooMing, Ruby Del Castillo, Jessica Nguyen, Anna Paguio and myself helping out with checking in members of the Rotary members and the checking out of guests at the end. The event itself was a tasting event for various foods and wines which was torture to have the smell waft to the check in booth as it made my stomach growl so many times. Thankfully, all the volunteers got into the event for free so we were able to sample the foods that were put out which was to die for.

HANANO YAMAZA KI csu san marcos

Anna and I couldn’t get enough of the shumai with the sweet sauce that one of the restaurants had brought. Rotary was also hosting an auction at the event in which many expensive items such as jewellery, paintings and sports memorabilia. The money made from the ticket sells and the auction will then be used for scholarships for students. It was an honor for us to be part of such an event in which we were able to actively help out fund raising for students who could go on to do many great things for our society.

WHAT IS IT LIKE CHAIRING THE LARGEST FUNDRAISER IN CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL? Chairing UCSD Circle K’s Masquerade Ball is an incredible experience. I learned a lot about myself and it has made me appreciate the efforts that past Mball Committees and clubs have put in to keep UCSD’s biggest legacy going for 2 decades. I’m honored to work along such incredibly hard working individuals on Masquerade Ball Committee. It has been a very stressful and hectic season for Masquerade Ball and I’m very glad to receive support from my club and committee. Despite the struggle of midterm seasons, Mball committee, Board and general members have been working tirelessly to ensure the success of the event from figuring out the tiniest details of MBall, waking up at 6am to chalk, staying out till 1am to put up posters on every corner of campus, and going to decorations workdays/ photoshoot and juggling a billion things at once. I’m excited to present Masquerade Ball to attendees all over our district and incredibly appreciative for all the support coming from our CNH district to support Masquerade Ball and our cause, Feeding America. #gotomball

Since we didn't have an actual bonfire at the original bonfire event, Kylie decided to try again. About 30 of us went back to the beach and after the sun set, Braelyn started the bonfire with some twigs she had collected. We made s'mores and talked and listened to music by the fire. I made a lot of friends and had a really great time! - F EL I X C H U

SPO TL IGH T ON KRIS TE N Y AGI

As President of University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Circle K International, it is my honor to spotlight Kristen Yagi for her extraordinary performance and commitment to service. As the semester goes on, the drive to find new projects diminishes and membership involvement decreases too, especially when school work and outside lives continuously tests our ability to stay flexible. This is a problem faced by many but our secretary Yagi has overcome each obstacle everytime. She M A G G I E C HE N Kristen has shown her commitment to one of the tenants of Circle K as she has voluntarily stepped up to spearhead UH HILO the Keys to College Workshop. The transition from high school to the college can be stressful and comes with a lot of responsibility and new unknown experiences. This is where Keys to College come in. Keys to College is an upcoming in-person series of workshops where high school students from Hilo, Hawaiʻi will learn about how to overcome the barriers that would interfere with their success in college. Taking charge of this event and a plethora of other opportunities in this semester, Kristen Yagi has shown time and time again that she goes above and beyond to give back to her community. She has done a phenomenal job at consistently reaching out to high schools in Hilo and their Key clubs, developing stronger relationships with them and organizing the Keys to College. I am proud to call Kristen Yagi one of our Circle K’ers as she continues to work hard to organize this event and many others along with her regular secretarial duties. Inspired by Kristen’s dedication, I am excited to grow with her and see the rest of her journey here in Circle K and beyond. I will always be extremely thankful for what she stands for and for what she has helped make possible.

F OR O R SERVICE SER VICE BRIANNA DE S CHE NES sdsu president

Inji Hankala is the current Vice President of Service for SDSU Circle K and is a shining example of what it means to be a leader in this organization. She began her Circle K journey less than a year ago when she started attending service events with our club. Now she works hard every week to find new and exciting service opportunities for our members while still attending both of our repeating weekly events. Not only does Inji organize and do the most service out of anyone in our club, but she is also acting as a family head and mentor this year proving that fellowship doesn’t have to fall short of leadership and service. As a leader, Inji is truly a rock for our board. She keeps us all in check with her consistent drive for professionalism and success despite all of the other great things she is juggling outside of Circle K. If you ever see Inji out and about, just ask how much she loves bonobos and you’ll have an instant friend!

Hello Paradise! The Foothill Division consists of LA City College, Cal State LA, East LA College, Mt. San Antonio College, Cal Poly Pomona, and Claremont Colleges. We’re the second smallest division in CNH and we’re also the most geographically dense. These factors result in our division being tight and intimate; virtually everyone knows or at least recognizes each other! Our primary mascot is Felix the Phoenix and we refer to ourselves as Fiery Phoenixes. This year’s theme is “Fire & Spice” and some of our event highlights this term include hosting a trainer called “Spicy Training Conference”, volunteering at the LA AIDS Walk, and having a social at the 626 Night Market. We are very honored to be featured in the Paradise newsletter and our love and hearts go out to you guys from San Diego all the way to Hawaii!

kom p cra z y komp crazy H OUUTTH SSO

BY JAKOB WOO-MIN G OCTOBER 20, 2018 At the heart of Ralph B. Clark Regional Park was a Crazy Kompetition for Infants South (or CKI South for short). It was Cal-Nev-Ha’s first District event of the Fall term, and was the first District event for many new members. This annual event presented a field day full of challenges for members to compete in whilst fundraising money to help Pediatric Trauma Prevention. Paradise Division and UC San Diego’s very own Ryan Luong coordinated this full day event. Over 60 students from throughout Paradise attended to spectate, judge, and compete in CKI South. 40 colleges from all over Nevada and Southern California competed. Among them, seven teams from Paradise took the challenge: The Griffins, Bananas Boba Party, Pingu in the City, SD Hype Beasts 2.0, Yeet Ha, Bhocolate Bhip Cookie, Spooky Bois, 50 Shades and The 7th Wheel. The challenges tested everyone’s speed, stamina, and dexterity. From grabbing cones quickly, to spelling words quickly, and to a relay across the field, challengers were kept on their toes.

26

In the end, the team artfully named “Neehoy Minoy” from California State University Fullerton triumphed over all and became victorious. While this crazy kompetition is over, the fun of CNH CKI is far from over.
