What’s new with... DUSTY! Dusty’s Brand NE W Jungle Gym is now open and located ins ide reception waiting for children to start their adventure. A multilevel climbing fra me with slides and ma zes, this is just one of the many places for yo ung explorers to enjoy at Paradise Resort.

Captain is a friendly, swashbuckling pirate who loves to sail the high seas.

Cleo is a sparkling princess from a land far, far away called Glitterton. Cleo loves to dance and you can join her as

THE Z4K KIDS CLUB
Welcome’s You! OUR NEWLY RENOVATED ZONE 4 KIDS CLUB (Z4K) HAS ESTABLISHED ITSELF AS A CHILDREN’S UTOPIA. Children are divided into different age groups over the 9 themed play spaces to ensure age-appropriate care and activities are provided.
where our staff offer an activity program to entertain and engage kids of every age, allowing them the opportunity to meet new friends and experience a host of fun activities designed just for them. Our Kids Eat For $8 menu is also available in Z4K for lunch or dinner, so whilst the kids are looked after parents can truly relax.
Z4K is a mini fun park featuring themed play spaces such as Astro’s Space Station with pedal powered space buggies, Under Water World with submarines and slides, Dusty’s Safari and the Magic Garden with its colourful ball pit.

Making News! KIDS CLUB GETS A $100,000 MAKEOVER Building on the success of the installation of the incredible Planet Chill ice skating attraction, Paradise Resort has turned its focus to a $100,000 revamp of its beloved Zone 4 Kids Club. For almost fifteen years the Zone 4 Kids Club (Z4K) at Paradise Resort has been one of the top reasons families choose to stay at this family-friendly holiday destination. “The owner’s vision to retain this edge and promise, combined with the commitment of continual capital reinvestment, has seen Zone 4 Kids taken to the next level.” said Resort General Manager David Brook. Helming the revitalisation was Kids Club and Entertainment Manager, Matt May, who after joining the Resort’s management team over 18 months ago was given the task of creating the only permanent ice skating rink within a resort in the southern hemisphere - Planet Chill. “Matt did an exceptional job of realising our vision for this unique attraction, working to budget to deliver another draw card for families staying at the Resort,” said Mr Brook. With Planet Chill successfully launched to the market,
Mr May and the team, turned their focus to improving a key component to family stays at the Resort. “’Captain’s Underwater World’ has been improved with new lighting and luminous paint to make it feel more like you are beneath the sea,” said Mr Brook. “While the old dining room has also been split in two to make way for Dusty’s Safari’ and the Enchanted Forest’, where kids can explore the jungles of Asia or experience a magical forest environment.” Tiny Town, which has been an old favourite for many years with its pedal-powered cars, has been transformed in to Astro’s Space Station’. “Kids can now blast off and explore the galaxy and as junior astronauts enjoy hours of fun on the pedal powered space buggies complete with a space fuelling station.” “We are proud of our culture of improvement at the Resort and the addition of Planet Chill, plus the revamp of Z4K, as well as the room refurbishment, all equals a refreshed holiday experience for our guests, time after time.”

DISCOVER... Bucket Loads of Fun! Our central resort area is a giant water playground, featuring a refreshing lagoon pool, large heated spa and two enormous Aqua Play attractions. Our large Z4K Water Park is 3 stories high on multi levels complete with a myriad of slides, water cannons, and climbing frames designed to entertain and engage the whole family in aquatic fun. Topping it all off is a giant bucket that fills with 600 litres of water before emptying every few minutes over guests below in one enormous splash.

The littlies have not been forgotten either, with their own smaller version including a slippery slide, water cannons and giant tipping water bucket. There’s also a paddling area with a gently sloping beach entry. The Pool, Spa & Junior Waterpark are heated year round.
Hours of Operation:
The Lagoon Pool & Spa are open daily from 7am-9pm. Z4K Waterparks are open daily from 9am-4pm (extended until 5.30pm during the Summer months.) Between 1pm-2pm daily, the Junior waterpark bucket is switched off to allow a break for the littlies. Arm bands are essential. *Use of the Water Parks and resort facilities is strictly limited to in-house guests only.

DUSTY’S ROCK CLIMBING Challenge yourself on Dusty’s 9 metre Rock Climbing Wall. Our Resort Entertainment Crew (REC) are professionally trained in all aspects of safety and tuition, and can help all ages from 7 - 100 to scale the heights of Dusty’s Rock Climbing. There are 3 degrees of difficulty to suit novices through to experienced climbers. Cost $10 per person Price includes safety equipment and tuition and as many climbs as we can fit into the 1.5 hour session. STREET’S Fancy Dress Fridays
Guests both young and old can be involved in “Street’s Fancy Dress Fridays.” What started out as a staff initiative has grown in to some fully fledged fun for our guests with Streets ice-cream now a sponsor. Throughout your stay you may encounter a Smurf, policeman, or your favourite character from Harry Potter… it’s truly magic in Paradise!” And as a bonus every child dressed in fancy dress who joins our parade will receive a FREE Streets Paddle Pop.

DISCOVER...
The Coolest Place in Paradise! Article by Sandy Aird on behalf of www.goldcoastkids.com.au I told the boys that we were going ice skating and they were beyond excited! “How will we go ice skating mummy, it doesn’t snow here?” asked my 5 year-old. Well that’s where the fun begins. We don’t need for it to snow here; we can go to the indoor ice skating rink at Surfers Paradise, anytime of the year. So we rugged up with jumpers, jeans and socks (you need socks with your skates) and headed off to Paradise Resort. (I suggest you pack a spare set of clothes if you are heading somewhere afterwards, as my boys spent a bit of time getting themselves back up off the ice that their clothes were damp) The parking as we headed to Planet Chill was a little tricky at first as we drove up to the front and could only

find the parking for the hotel guests, but once we found the sign that showed the off street parking around the block, we were there in no time (Corner of Ferny and Norfolk Avenue). When you walk into Paradise Resort, it’s excitement all around. The amazing paintings on the wall at the reception desk grabbed the kid’s eyes straight away and we could see Planet Chill as we walked in and looked up to the first floor with its amazing feature wall of ice. When you walk through the giant icy doors you are greeted with an icy cold feel of another world, a winter wonderland. We checked in for the 12pm session which we had reserved (there are different time sessions that you need to book into) and it was straight through to change into our skates. Yazzie, the wonderfully friendly staff member fitted the boys up with helmets and skates and got
them onto the ice. It was so good to have Yazzie get the boys on the ice while I buckled myself into some blades! At Planet Chill the boys had their very own helper on the ice which was awesome. A little fibre glass penguin that they could hold onto and help hold themselves upright. These little penguins were amazing. I really loved the idea of them. The boys could hold onto them and since I wasn’t so crash hot on the ice, they didn’t need to hold onto me (and pull me down to the ground) for us to skate around together. Even hubby made friends with the penguin to get himself started on the ice too!

The room was a “Blue Light Disco” with flashing laser lights and the latest music playing on a big screen. Gangman Style also made an appearance on the screen which was hilarious seeing my 6 year-old trying to dance to it in his ice skates. Needless to say, he ended up on his bottom. The session was 2 hours, which was just the right amount of time needed to have lots of fun at Paradise Resort. Yazzie came out onto the ice and helped the kids to try and learn how to skate. She was so positive and friendly with the children. Our 6 year-old even ended up putting his penguin away after half an hour and spent the rest of the time skating on his own.
After about an hour of skating, 1/3 of the rink was sectioned off for some ice hockey. The boys thought this was amazing! They were straight in there to grab a stick and a puck and give it their best at getting it in the nets. Yazzie also came out to help those in need. For those who didn’t want to play ice hockey, we kept on skating! If you needed a break you could go hang out in the “Chill Zone” where there were some relaxing chairs to sit back and watch the rink or you could try your hand on some coin operated games such as air hockey, pool and pac man. There are plenty of table and chairs around the rink for those parents who prefer to sit back and watch their children (children 3 to 5 must be accompanied by an adult on the ice though). If you need a warm drink there is a coffee/hot chocolate vending machine you can help yourself to, right next to the snack machine. The only thing I would do different next time we go to Paradise Resort, is for my 5 year old who is quite small,

Did you know you can book a session and have the rink to yourself for a fun filled birthday party here too! I have to say, that we ALL had a great time. There was so much laughing going on and although the boys fell down a lot (Yes, I managed to stay on my feet the whole time) not once did they get upset. They just kept getting back up and having fun! Yazzie was a big hit with my 5 year-old who just warmed to her so well, and the glowing face zinc was a huge hit! Yazzie you rock! The boys were still talking about it the next day and it was the topic of conversation for news at school. Thanks Planet Chill for a great Sunday family activity. DO NOT DISTURB If you place your Do Not Disturb on the door we will not service your room. However after a maximum of 3 days you will be contacted by our Duty Manager to arrange a time to service. When walking the corridors please be mindful of other guests/children sleeping and keep noise levels to a minimum.
ELECTRICITY / ADAPTORS Guest rooms are equipped to take 240 volt appliances. Adaptors are available from reception, a deposit will apply. Our Superior Rooms are also equipped with HDMI and USB ports to suit most electronic devices. If you have left your cable behind we have a range available for sale in Splashes mini-mart.
DUSTY’S BBQ AREA Opening in early 2014 guests can enjoy their own outdoor dining experience in our new self-catering BBQ area. Located in Dusty’s Adventureland is a spacious grass area and complimentary electronic BBQ’s offering the perfect place to relax or enjoy a family picnic. The BBQ Area is for use by hotel guests only. Please be mindful of other guests and clean up after use.
GAMES ROOM The games room is an unsupervised area with coin-operated arcade style and challenge machines. Open daily from 8:30am to 8:30pm and located on the lower level next to the Zone 4 Kids Club.
DUSTY’S JUNGLE GYM Our multi-level climbing frame complete with slides and mazes is located in reception and suitable for children 2-12years. Children must wear socks and have parental supervision. DUSTY’S PLAYGROUND Located in Dusty’s Adventureland our outdoor play area is the perfect place to burn off energy and let imaginations run wild. Open every day from 9am to 6pm parents can watch young ones enjoy free play. DUSTY’S ROCK CLIMBING Our 9-metre climbing wall is located in Dusty’s Adventureland. Dates and times are weather permitting and subject to change. Please check the weekly What’s On program issued upon check-in.
GIANT CHESS BOARD Our giant chess board is 4m x 4m with pieces standing approx 1m high. It is located just outside of the pool area in Cleo’s Castle on Level 1 and available for all guests to enjoy between 9am-6pm daily. Look for the Knight in shining armour. GUEST LAUNDRY Coin operated laundry facilities are located on the lower ground level of the resort next to Kids Club. Washing/Drying cost is $4 per load. Your room swipe key is required to gain entry. GYM A cardio gym is located on the reception level opposite the internet kiosks. Open 24 hours and free of charge for use by hotel guests only. Children are not permitted in the gym. HIRE ITEMS - DIAL 442 We have a range of items available for hire at the resort, eg microwave, strollers, DVD/ Gaming consoles, high chairs and much more. Please contact the Resort Shop for more information. (Deposit Required)
EMERGENCY EVACUATION Check the fire escape plan on the back of your door, remembering the way out to exits. If you discover a fire in your room, immediately report it to the Guest Hotline. Only try to put the fire out if you’re sure you can handle it. If you’re in doubt, leave your room and close the door to keep smoke and flames out of the corridor. In the event of an evacuation, follow instructions given out over the PA system. If the intensity of the fire prevents normal exit from your room – here’s what to do. DON’T PANIC! Grab your room key and head for the door. If there is smoke in the room, crawl to the door. Stay low as smoke and toxic gases rise. Touch door for heat before opening. If the door isn’t hot, open it slowly and look out for fire in the corridor. Be prepared to close the door quickly if necessary. CHECK THE CORRIDOR! If everything is clear, close the door behind you and walk to the nearest exit. If there is smoke in the corridor, crawl to the nearest exit. If the nearest exit or stairway is blocked use an alternative one to your room. NEVER USE THE ELEVATOR! The call button may take you to a floor with smoke or flames.
HOUSEKEEPING - DIAL 9 Rooms are serviced Monday to Saturday. Our Sunday Sleep In initiative gives you the option of sleeping in with no disruption. Should you require a service on Sunday please call reception prior to 8:00pm on Saturday night. Extra blankets or pillows are available by calling the guest hotline. If the “Do not disturb” sign is displayed on your door knob your room will not be serviced. INTERNET - DIAL 446 Wireless internet is available in all public areas of the resort and Captains Quarters complimentary for all hotel guests. This is limited to 200MB of data per 24hours. High speed internet with up to 1GB of data is also available for a small fee. Alternatively internet kiosks ($2 per 15mins) are located in the resort reception. MAIL, PHOTOCOPYING These services are available at reception. (Fees apply) MAINTENANCE - DIAL 9 We have a maintenance team onsite from 8:00am each day. If you find anything in your room not in working order, please contact our Guest Hotline. MEDICAL SERVICES/CHEMIST - DIAL 9 The Surfers Paradise Day & Night surgery & Pharmacy is located at the Outrigger building, on Surfers Paradise Boulevard (approx 10minute walk), there phone number is 07 5592 2299. If you have a medical emergency or require first aid, please contact the Guest Hotline. POOL TOWELS Pool towels are available for purchase at nominal costs from the Resort Shop and Splashes Mini Mart. Our bath towels may not be used for pools, beaches or taken away from the resort. PLANET CHILL ICE-SKATING - DIAL 482 Planet Chill is our very own ice-skating rink located on the 2nd level above reception. A great family attraction suitable for all ages 3 years and up with three x 2 hour sessions per day. (Refer to page 14 for more information) RESORT SHOP - DIAL 442 Located on the lobby level, this boutique offers a great range of swimwear, pool accessories for kids, casual resort wear, souvenirs and your favourite “Fancy Dress Friday” outfits. SECURITY / SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX For your own security, please ensure you lock and bolt all security screens and doors on departure from your room, as we do not accept responsibility for stolen items. We strongly urge you to place any cash, jewellery, laptop, computers or other valuables be stored in the complimentary safety deposit boxes at reception.
SMOKING REGULATIONS Government regulations prevent smoking in all public areas other than the designated smoking area located near the front entrance of the resort. Please note children are not permitted in the smoking area. Smoking in rooms will incur a $200 deodorising charge. SWIMMING POOLS Our Lagoon Pool and Spa are open daily from 7am-9pm. Wristbands supplied on check-in must be worn at all times in the pool area. To ensure a fun and safe environment for all, please do not run, take glass in to the pool area, or dive in to the pools. Children must have parental supervision, as the resort does not have a pool lifeguard. (Refer to page 8 for more information). TELEPHONE SERVICE - DIAL 9 OUTSIDE CALLS – are recorded on your room account and will appear on your final bill on departure. Please note there is a charge for all external calls made from your room phone. Local calls, STD and International Direct Dial are available from all rooms by dialling 0 (if room charge has been set up) then the number required. ROOM TO ROOM CALLS - Simply dial the room number. MESSAGES - Your telephone light will indicate there is a message waiting for you. To retrieve messages, pick up the handset and press the message button. WAKE-UP CALLS - Please dial 9 to arrange. TOURS/THEME PARKS/ACTIVITIES There is a booking kiosk and brochures located in reception showcasing a range of activities available on the Gold Coast. ZONE 4 ADULTS We offer an exclusive Adult only outdoor Spa area open daily from 9:00am-7:00pm.
