Welcome to the 52nd Aegean Sailing Rally, also known as the International Aegean Sailing Week – an international offshore sailing regatta, so unique because of the famous Greek hospitality, hosted in the crystal clear blue waters of the Aegean by the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC). It is an exquisite event with a unique blend of racing, high-performance boats and great people. The regatta is performed annually and runs for a week in July. It consists of a series of 3 individual offshore races and 2 coastal/ inshore races. The regatta starts and finishes in Piraeus and includes stop overs to two beautiful Aegean islands (this year in Andros and Skyros), accompanied with a series of happenings and social events ashore. After 50 years of successful organization, this year’s regatta promises to be even better and rises to be an important sailing event for the entire region of the Mediterranean. Apart from the race itself, there is going to be a full program of dinners, parties and prize-giving ceremonies in each port with no additional cost. Also, special prices will be offered to the participant crew and their escorts for rooms to rent. The handicap systems used are ORC and IRC. The overall distance of the race varies between 300 and 400 NM, depending on the courses sailed by each category. Most boats sail the whole regatta, but there is always the option

to sail some legs only if your time is limited. Boats to charter are also available.

GREEK TOURISM We try to keep theNATIONAL entry fees as lowORGANISATION as possible: 100 Euros for the whole regatta, all inclusive (harbor dues, water and ice supply).

The regatta is a truly international event that attracts entries from Italy, Austria, Germany, Israel, Bulgaria, Australia, Czech Republic, Russia, Belgium, Croatia and Sweden. The Hellenic Navy, government and local authorities support the Aegean Rally in every way possible. The national and international media cover the event, of which extensive articles are published in the local press and daily video clips are shown on TV. Relying on the generous sponsorship of various major Greek organizations, the Organizing Committee and members of the HORC, kindly invite you to participate and live some unique moments by sailing in the Aegean Sea. The locations Piraeus-Mikrolimano

Sounion

Mikrolimano is the starting point of the race and the harbor that accommodates most racing boats. It is also the second largest yacht marina of Piraeus port with lots of fresh-fish restaurants. The port was protected by the Goddess Mounihia Artemis, that’s why it is sometimes referred to as port of Mounihia. Today Mikrolimano is a popular location, attracting people from all over Attica. It is a beautiful small harbor with fishing boats as well as cruising, racing and luxury yachts. If you like fish and seafood have lunch or dinner at one of its famous taverns. Many Greek films have used this location because of its idyllic atmosphere. This marina accommodates the premises of the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club and three other Sailing Clubs as well.

Cape Sounion is a promontory located 60 km south-southeast of Athens, at the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula. Cape Sounion is noted as the site of ruins of an ancient Greek temple of Poseidon, the God of the sea in classical Greek mythology. The remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the sea. The ruins bear the deeply engraved name of English Romantic poet Lord Byron (1788-1824). The site is a popular day excursion for tourists from Athens, with the sunset over the Aegean Sea as viewed from the ruins, a sought-after spectacle. According to legend, Cape Sounion is the spot where Aegeus, king of Athens, leapt to his death off the cliff, thus giving his name to the Aegean Sea. The story goes that Aegeus, anxiously looking out from Sounion, despaired when he saw a black sail on his son Theseus’s ship, returning from Crete. This led him to believe that his son had been killed in his contest with the dreaded Minotaur, a monster that was half man and half bull. The Minotaur was confined by its owner, King Minos of Crete, in a specially designed labyrinth.

Andros Andros is the northernmost and second biggest island of the Cyclades islands, with a great naval tradition. It is an alternative and high-quality travel destination, boasting a rich history and a beautiful natural landscape due to the water springs, something scarce in the Cyclades islands. Andros gathers in its extend some of the most fascinating sightseeing attractions and the best places to visit when vacationing in Greece. The capital of the island (Hora) is home to famous Greek captains and ship owners and there is a remarkable combination of medieval, neoclassical and island style evident in its houses. Picturesque narrow streets, remarkable churches and museums, shops, cafes and restaurants, play their part in the beauty of the place. To top that beauty off, there is Frankish castle on an islet connected to the main island with an arched stone bridge of the 13th century. Andros is definitely worth a visit and can be seen solely as a cultural tourism destination, thanks to its museums. The globally acknowledged museum of Modern Art houses unique collections of paintings and sculptures, whereas the archaeological museums in Hora and Paleopolis represent the ancient history of the island with their exhibits.

Skyros Skyros, an island with a history of centuries and important presence in the course of the Greek reality, is one of the most beautiful islands of Greece. Enwrapped by the blue water of the Aegean Sea, with lush vegetation and spectacular morphology, it is the perfect destination for a holiday of pleasure and enjoyment. In Skyros are some of the most beautiful beaches of Greece. The long beach with golden sand that joins Magazia with Molos is a classic example of the quality that you will find in Skyros beaches. Crystal clear waters, breathtaking scenery with pines that reach the sea, golden sands or pearly pebbles, surely you will have the opportunity to enjoy the beaches of Skyros during your holiday.
