Editorial The Return to Normalcy - Paras Bassuk Coming out of an era of war and fear, The USA's new president has a new idea for the future. At President Harding’s inauguration speech he outlined an era of reform from the old ways that sounds appealing to many Americans. Looking at his speech with a fresh eye reveals the frivolousness of his ideas and how futile their outcomes will be. President Harding’s Republican goals may find America back in the good old days, but more likely back in the worse old days. The Real Threat - Nathan Gall A. Mitchell Palmer, U.S. Attorney General, is conducting raids on immigrants and leftists, in search of russian terrorists. The question on everyone’s minds, are they going to far. Even though a bomb plot has been revealed, searching and arresting over 3,000 individuals is going too far. Many of these people were arrested and detained for the sole reason of having an accent. The Palmer Raids have crossed the line. Foreign Policy and War - Fred Syata America has began to become safer and become in more danger. Our government has cut taxes and limited government spending. They also help create the League of Nations an international court. We began the Kellogg Briand Pact to ban war between the two countries that sign it. A war is emerging and we can't stop it. We have been trying to limit the size of Naval fleets and cut spending on our Navy but other countries aren't following and they and increasing their Navy. Technology has gotten better and planes can now fly across the oceans making America a lot closer to other continents. Tensions with Japan have gotten worse and a war with Japan is inevitable. Deregulation - Ilya Tataurov America has prospered under deregulation. As our 3 republican presidents lowered taxes and used the laissez faire economic system, they helped the country prosper. For example Warren Harding made our economy stabilize and unemployment dropped from 14% to 2%. Coolidge worked with the treasury to reduce unnecessary spending. Because of these systems, mass production became available due to deregulation and made prices drop. Overall deregulation made our nation prosper under our 3 conservative presidents of the 20’s.
