Para/Site Art Space is pleased to present Edwin Lo’s The Horizon of Seascape. Continuing the sonic research and exploration of the concept of seascape since Auditory Scenes: Tsing Yi and Auditory Scenes: A Study of Seascape, The Horizon of Seascape is the artist’s further investigation on seascape from an oil tank, the working place of his father. Turning the limitation of an exhibition space to a creative constraint, the artist compresses his auditory experiences into a flat “canvas”, in attempt to recreate the horizon that divides the water and the sky. The work consists of different sonic fragments captured during the artist’s on-going travelogue in search of his own horizon in the seascape of Hong Kong. By composing sound materials for eight horizontally aligned speakers, the artist tries to confront with visual discourse of the horizon and form his own definition and interpretation of horizon, and invites the audience to perceive the horizon through sound. Born in 1984. Edwin Lo is a sound artist, sound designer, field recordist and phonographer form Hong Kong graduated from School of Creative Media (SCM), City University of Hong Kong. Edwin Lo’s sound works were published in various places such as Hong Kong, China, Japan and Mexico. In 2007, he established Rabbit Travelogue with video and film director Rita Hui and they are producing an on-going dialogue between sound and vision. Lo’s sound works were exhibited since 2008 in various local and overseas exhibitions such as Hong Kong Sound Station, Shenzhen&Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism Architecture 2009, SoundLab (2009, 2010), FILE 2010 - Electronic Language International Festival and EMERGEANDSEE Media Art Festival (2010). Para/Site Central Generously hosted by Hanart TZ, Para/Site Central is the smallest independent exhibition venue in Hong Kong, regularly featuring young local talents. The space is managed by non-profit arts organization Para/Site Art Space with its main exhibition space located on 4 Po Yan Street, Sheung Wan. Please visit www.para-site.org.hk for more details.
