This parent/child class provides instruction in basic water skills that increases confidence, coordination, and safety in the water. A responsible adult is required to participate with their child in the water.
Preschool Swimming is to introduce students to swimming and water safety. Participants will be assessed on the first day of class and, when feasible, will be placed in skill-appropriate groups to promote comfort and success.
If your child falls face down into the water, knowing how to roll onto a face up back float can save a life. Children will learn to use their bodies in the water without assistance and to look for air.

Swim assessments are required for all swimmers who are new to the Plano Parks & Recreation system or those who have had more than one year between previous classes with the City of Plano. At no additional charge, participants may book a time online for a swim level assessment using the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program criteria. Participants must be at least six-years-old. Participants will be in the water independently for approximately 5-10 minutes and will be tested on their current knowledge of and ability to perform in-water skills such as front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, side stroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. This assessment does not guarantee registration spots for participants.
Learning how to swim is fun, but did you know this lifelong skill benefits children in many other ways? Becoming a good swimmer can also help improve your child’s strength and coordination, as well as their overall self-esteem.
