At Thayer Academy, students are known, connected, and prepared for the challenges and opportunities which lie ahead. The independent coed day school in historic Braintree serves students in grades 5-12 and is committed to excellence in scholarship, athletics, the arts, leadership, and service. With the Academy’s flexible scheduling, students don’t have to choose one experience over the other; exploration and discovery are encouraged. Students work in an atmosphere of academic collaboration, with a 6:1 student-to-teacher ratio and an average class size of 14. Global Scholars, Independent Science Research (ISR), and Scholarsin-Residence programs offer signature educational opportunities with a real-world perspective.

In terms of athletics, Thayer competes in the ISL and NEPSAC and is a charter member of both organizations. The Academy boasts 79 sports teams, including 26 varsity teams, and has a robust physical education program allowing students to learn, compete, and grow in mind and body. The Academy recently unveiled its new middle school building which features: a marine science lab; expansive art, music, and ensemble rooms; an innovation lab; a recording studio and digital media lab; and additional classroom space. Thayer also opened a new health and wellness center to further its commitment to student engagement and well-being, both of which lie at the heart of Thayer’s tradition of academic excellence.

Founded in 1877, Thayer Academy's mission is to inspire a diverse community of students to moral, intellectual, aesthetic, and physical excellence so that each may rise to honorable achievement and contribute to the common good. Easily accessible from public transportation, the Academy also offers bus routes from Boston, MetroWest, and the South Shore. Open houses for the Middle School and Upper School will be Oct. 22 and Oct. 29, respectively. For more information, email admissions@thayer.org or visit thayer.org.
