Best Subscription Boxes for Busy Parents

From books to diapers and beyond, there’s a subscription box for that!

By Kari Hanson

New parents often barely have time to eat and sleep, let alone constantly make trips to the store. Having a few boxes of supplies arrive in the mail reliably can be a huge help. Read on for some of the best subscription boxes for books, toys, diapers, clothing and food for your little one.

Books for babes

A quick search on Amazon for “baby books” returns more than 100,000 results. How to choose? Subscription services take away all of the hard work and deliver some fantastic books.

Literati • literati.com

You’ll receive five books monthly; keep what you like and send back what you don’t. The service offers a babies and toddlers box for infants to 4-year-olds.

Cost: The $9.95 monthly membership fee does not cover the cost of any books you choose to keep. You will be billed for any books you don’t return 14 days after your shipment is received.

Bookroo • bookroo.com

You’ll receive three books per box in the Board Book Club, which is intended for ages 0–3.

Cost: Varies depending on the subscription you choose. The month-by-month rate is $24.95 for each box; that drops to $19.95 per box with a 12-month subscription.

Phinney by Post Kids • phinneybooks.com

Phinney Books, located in North Seattle, mails one picture book each month to a target audience of kiddos ages 0–5.

Cost: There are options for every month (“Twelve”; $240) or every other month (“Six”; $130).

Toys for tots

Wooden, plastic, educational — so many options!

Lovevery • lovevery.com

Each play kit provides developmentally appropriate, stage-based play essentials for babies ages 0–12 months, and toddlers and kids all the way up to age 3.

Cost: Kits for babies ages 0–12 months cost $80 (per kit) and ship every two months. Kits for kids older than 12 months ship every three months and cost $120 per kit.

KiwiCo, Panda Crate • kiwico.com

Subscribers receive a box filled with projects appropriate for your child’s developmental stage every other month. The Panda Crate is designed for babies ages 0–24 months.

Cost: Varies depending on the subscription you choose. For a onetime box, $21.95. If you subscribe for two years (a total of 12 boxes), each crate is $16.95.

ToyLibrary • toylibrary.co

This unique option is more like a toy rental program. Simply play with the toys you receive (two in each shipment, which you select) as long as you want, then send them back and receive a new batch.

Cost: Varies depending on the subscription you choose. One month only is $29.95; a 12-month subscription is $12.50 per month.

Diapers

The following diaper subscription boxes offer eco-friendly, reliable solutions to make sure you always have fresh supplies on hand.

Baby Diaper Service • babydiaperservice.net

Baby Diaper Service delivers fresh, clean cloth diapers and picks up soiled ones each week. Simply drop the used diapers in the provided lined hamper, then set them out on pickup day. Like magic, they are replaced continued from page 7 with a bag of clean cloth diapers. Service is available in the Seattle metro area.

Cost: You can select the number of diapers you want delivered. The service fee is $51 every four weeks.

Diaper Stork • diaperstork.com

Diaper Stork offers a reusable cloth diaper service that washes the diapers for you. Weekly pickup and delivery service is available to customers in the Seattle metro area. Diaper Stork also has a pilot delivery/pickup program for plant-based disposable diapers.

Cost: There is a onetime setup fee of $39. Weekly cloth diaper service is $133 per month. The compostable diaper service is $110 per month.

Hello Bello • hellobello.com

Pick the diaper size you need, then choose as many as seven cute patterns, add as many as five other items and you’ve made a bundle! It will ship to you every three, four or five weeks, whichever works for you.

Cost: Each bundle of seven packs of diapers and four packs of wipes costs $69.99.

Clothing for cuties

These subscription boxes will help ensure that there is something fun (and often eco-friendly and organic) to wear in your baby’s ever-changing wardrobe.

Dopple • thedopple.com

Start by taking a style quiz, including brand preferences and budget. Then Dopple will put together a quarterly curated box of clothes for your child based on your responses. Keep what you like, send back what doesn’t work (returns are free).

Cost: There is a $10 nonrefundable service fee for each box, which is credited toward anything you purchase. The rest of the cost is dependent on how many items you choose to keep.

Surprisly • surprisly.com

Three outfits for your baby (one each for baby’s “day out,” “playtime” and “snooze”) are delivered monthly.

Cost: Price varies depending on the subscription you choose.

Rent-a-Romper • rentaromper.com

Select the capsule you want, take a quick style quiz, and then your first box is on the way. Keep the clothing for as long as you want, and when you are ready to exchange it, fill out a swap form online. A new box will arrive, and you can place the items from your previous box into a prepaid shipping bag to return. Genius!

Cost: The Essential capsule, with seven items, is $24 per month. Other options are available.

Food for families

These food-focused subscription boxes bring healthy options to you.

Yumi • helloyumi.com

Five stages of organic puréed baby food, bitesize food and snacks are all available with this subscription box.

Cost: Plans come in three different sizes and start as low as $5 per day.

Tiny Organics • tinyorganics.com

Meals will arrive frozen; you just warm up the healthy organic meals and serve them to your baby or toddler.

Cost: Meals start at less than $5 per meal. You can choose 12–24 meals delivered every one, two or three weeks.

Little Spoon • littlespoon.com

With Little Spoon’s subscription plans, you can choose to receive one, two or three organic baby, toddler or kid food meals per day, delivered every two weeks.

Cost: Price varies depending on the child’s age and the number of meals selected.

Check out Cratejoy (cratejoy.com) for an extensive list of other subscription box options for babies, parents and all ages in between. ■

Learning by design

Our infant-toddler program allows our youngest students the opportunity to learn through play, investigation and discovery. With an emphasis on communication and cooperation, learning also occurs through interactions with others, and we design experiences that support children to see themselves as active participants who make an impact in their communities.

Designed to be flexible, our curriculum puts children at the center. Learning emerges from children’s theories and ideas as they experiment, investigate, question and explore. The curriculum uses extended blocks of time for discovery, play and group projects that feed and inspire children’s curiosity. ucds.org/infant-toddler-education

Hope Lutheran Preschool is a fun, play-based preschool program full of opportunities to explore the world through hands-on learning in a safe, nurturing Christ-centered environment. Our experienced teachers plan activities to scaffold children’s learning to their next level as well as set up enriching, stimulating environments. Students have access to an outdoor garden classroom, encouraging exploration and imaginative play.

Our preschool content is primarily based on Washington State Early Learning Benchmarks and “The Creative Curriculum,” which incorporates all aspects of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education. A developmental continuum in all aspects of your child’s learning (social/ emotional, physical, cognitive, language, spiritual) takes place over the two-year-long preschool program. Most importantly, our teachers partner with families to set every child up for success, meeting each student where they are and creating a joyful preschool experience.
