Home of Roots & shoots (Inspired by Jane Goodale “Roots & Shoots” program)
Location: Garden of Cosmic Speculation, Scotland Instructors: Andrew Levit Year: 2017 University of Waterloo
14
This project is based on Jane Goodall as a visionary, Piano as a ritual and Garden of cosmic speculation as the landscape. Jane Morris Goodall is a British primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and UN Messenger of Peace. Her activities are not limited here while she is the founder of Jane Goodall Institute and Roots and Shoots program. Roots and Shoots started in 1991 with the goal of working on environmental issues and humanitarians problems. They gather the youth generation from preschool to university students to be trained and work on these issues. Jane’s characteristics express a great sense of adventurous. Nature is on sacred position for her and she cares about the human beings issues and problems. This project intends to provide a space for her personal life and adventurous part of her character. This accommodation is specifically designed for her. She can pursue her goals beside her personal life. The open and large space of this project enables her to continue Roots and Shoots program in her own place. Piano as the ritual part of the story, has a special place in this accommodation. It will be located in special temple. The light and harmony of sounds will dance to bring the occupants an unbelievable feeling of the nature spirit. Garden of Cosmic Speculation itself resembles the movements and dynamics of the universe. The design provides a special atmosphere for its occupants. The stunning view and landscape is admirable. Besides providing enough space for her adventures, the project lays down under a green surface and embrace the nature.

Public Learning Center (Base on communication)
Location: Tehran, Iran Instructors: Shervin Kamali Year: 2013 Islamic Azad University of Tehran North Branch The main objective of the project is to find a way to absorb people from different social levels. Furthermore, each person who comes to this center is to learn unconsciously. Hence, initially we have tried to attract people by creating attractive forms. After people entering the site, it is not that much easy to find their destination that they had decided at first. The reason is to provide a way for users to walk around the project and in this section unconscious learning is happening.

Tajrish pedestrian-oriented cultural complex (An urban contextual design) Location: Tehran, Iran Instructors: Amirmasoud Dabagh Year: 2012 Islamic Azad University of Tehran North Branch Tajrish is a commercial-religious area in the north of Tehran-Iran. It attracts many people every day for different reasons such as shopping, entertainment and pilgrimage. One of its major problems is traffic and for that reason, its town-hall has been studying the possibility of turning Tajrish into a pedestrian-oriented area. One idea is to displace the bus-terminal and construct a new sub-way for traffic circulation. This would then free some space for a better movement of the pedestrians. In the first step, strong and weak points of the area should be found and in the next step, an innovative design is needed to preserve the potential of the area and improve the quality of architectural spaces.

A: A new amphitheater and some benches for peddlers: In this project, an outdoor amphitheater is placed in between three holy places (i.e. Imamzadeh Saleh shrine, Hemmat mosque and Fatemieh mosque) for religious ceremonies and street musicians who are coming to Tajrish. Also, some linearly-arranged stone benches are placed between a nearby old bazar and the main mosque (Imamzadeh Saleh) for peddlers to sell their stuff and people to distribute their votive. This is supposed to better organize peddlers who are spread out across the place. Also, it would improve the current disorder which is due to the lack of appropriate place for the votive. B: Artificial waterfall: Currently, in this area, there is no appropriate view to the Maghsoud Beig River. An artificial waterfall with water pumping is then made to provide a live environment and attract people. C: Stone bench and green benches: View to the waterfall Stone benches provide view to the waterfall and make a context for a better communication between people. Also, organic green benches in a valley-like area provide a good view to the waterfall. Design proposal 28

Volatile Configuration Location: Tehran, Iran Tutor: Djordje Stojanovic Year: 2011 AA school workshop at University of Tehran Project looks at spatial systems with the capacity to grow and merge over time. Organizational and structural principles are explored through the series of study models, based on the spiral model of growth. At first stage of their growth such spirals are scattered across the space, but at some stage they come closer to each other and intertwine among themselves to create larger union with more complex properties. Resulting structures have been observed for their constellation-like effect, or appearance to form a pattern offering itself to a particular spatial organization.

Ingenium Natura Location: The Maldives Pamphlet architecture #36 (Floating Cities) Year: 2016 Studio P[ortable] Water as a vital source of living is an inevitable part in all organisms, which allocates the most important surface of the earth. This amount will raise dramatically by means of global warming in this century. This phenomenon will cause lack of appropriate land in far future of the earth and may bring lots of problems afterward. Lands will become much more expensive than nowadays and it could be the reason of land- wars. Maldives with an average ground-level elevation of 1.5 m above the sea, is the planet`s lowest country and the most endangered place that it absorbs scientist mind to find a solution for it and this worldwide phenomenon as well. The main reason of all these obstacles is that human physique is more compatible to live on the land instead of water and technology has not reached to the point to prepare living on water. Although the foundation of civilization has been shaped on the land, why should we deprived the dream of a life completely base on water for the intelligent citizens of the future? When scientists are investigating new ways to immigrate to other planets, thinking about a water life is not far from mind and may open new windows through the science world. As we know at the back of each invention is a big dream, a dream that can change the routine approach through the problem. Recent researches have shown new facts about water. Professor Gerald H. Pollack has written a book about the fourth phase of water, which has been considered as the most significant discovery of this century. In this fantastic voyage we can see in special circumstances, having a suspended bridge of water is possible. By applying different frequency to water, it can act different. By means of these recent discoveries it is obvious that in the future new amazing exploration will expand the science boundaries about water. A glance look through the future of the earth will have shown a planet that the major percentage of its surface is water. There are different ways through solving the issue but a creative solution may imagine a completely different life for the tomorrow human being. The man that is linked to a widespread technologies, while he can act, walk and live in a different circumstances. In this situation why do not imagine a future city base on water through the design realm? 46

The Ingenious/Interactive Ingenium Natura goes beyond theory of the Smart City by emerging of an interactive infrastructure basis. In this city, soft infrastructure and information infrastructure form a cyber-based system, in which elements are connected by information technologies with flexibility. In a self-organizing infrastructure system, a city goes beyond the idea of being “real time”. Ingenium Natura contextualizes virtual information into a physical space, negotiating between dimensions and produce knowledge and information in return. This kind of infrastructure controls the urban life to molecule scale and tools an interface between virtual/ immaterial and the posthuman’s body and his habitat on a design level. Among with information infrastructure framework, interactive digital technology embarks a whole new era in urban visions, regarding a shift that happens in every scope of a city and citizen. Public spaces, political relationships, housing, neighbourhood, transportation, communication, monitoring, waste and recycle, economy and education follow a new digital/interactive plan. This system leads the city towards collective intelligence, which is based on both personal and shared experience simultaneously. Interactive digital infrastructure requires a new system that supports with both satellites and intelligent water system in Ingeni-

Home (the moon) This city contains two parts. The main part is the city center and the other is “The Moons. The Moons is citizens’ home with its own traits. They can orbit around the city center while the interactive gravity of city center can affect them. The city center has some specific stations. When citizens want to go home they should stand on the stations. Intelligent molecules of water will rebuild their home in no time. All of their properties will be in their place as well. Imagine the Man Plus stands at his home and he need light from south, as his cells are in contact with water intelligent molecules by his chipset, the water molecules will provide a hole to the right position. Interestingly he can change the place of hole immediately and only by thinking, as a result he can have the best view to the ocean for instance. Each Moon has a specific x, y and z coordinates but it can move along different coordinates in particular situations. For example, it can goes up and become suspend or goes down to the sea level. Interactive gravity is the main factor that affects this feature. Actually The Moon can act like an automobile. If a Man Plus wants to visit another, the intelligent molecules of their Moons estimate the best way to reach each other. In that case their moon join together to share a place 2 size larger than the previous one. Furthermore the moon can grow up by itself to make a larger place. The shape of the moon is somehow the same as a bubble. As we know a bubble is a droplet which has been filled with a gas like oxygen. As a result it can provide a suitable environment for living. If a citizen decide to rest, an aqua bed is available for his request. A significant thing is that the placement of water molecules is not natural and they can work like an integrated plastic to avoid diving in water.

Indeterminate Positive Location: Venice, Italy competition of iran pavilion in venice architecture biennale Year: 2016 Studio P[ortable] Architechture in Iran should be perceived holistically, which reflects cultural context as well as political. Under the title of [Indeterminate Positive], Iran Pavilion narrates some chronological fragments of architecture history in this country, including some frames from treasurable historical works, vernacular endeavors and the impact of revolution and war on architectural context; and finally about the interrogative vibe in the post-sanctions era. The word [Positive] emphasizes this new atmosphere, while [Indeterminate] talks about continues probe that roots in mathematical pragmatism. This pavilion will be a narration about what people, technicians and elites have achieved and kept pace with the world in transcending barriers, before the nuclear deal. The physical form of this pavilion contains two cuboidal spaces within which three sequences are defined as a narrative text: preface, body and prologue. A rhizome connects these three parts in form of a line that changes through the space. This fractal line moves toward the roof as it gets near to the prologue part.
52
53
[Cube 1]- “preface”: it is a visual ring in grey that divides inner limited space from public hall. Introduction has been written on this ring, while a monitor is recording visitor’s video and voice to play it inside the main space. [Cube 1]- “body”: the rhizome starts from the prologue part, moves toward the body and leads visitors to the prologue part. In the central space, the rhizome crawls upon 5 stalks, which are representatives for Iranian people. These narrative stalks play some videos about thematic notions of the pavilion. Aside from the rhizome, one stalk is dedicated to visitors’ video and audio about Iran architectural context. The mentioned notions are displayed on both east and west wall, in terms of four different categories: historical, vernacular, professional and governmental endeavors regarding architectural practices. This part ends when the rhizomes riches the “nuclear deal” point, where the prologue starts. -“Prologue”: this part contains the ending wall. The luminous lines on this wall form a visual illusion that infuses the idea of continuity and hope. This occurs because the optical illusion makes the limited space of pavilion look extended, while it is not as simple as it looks like simultaneously.
