Country Palooza Gala

head of school message Thank you for joining us for Country Palooza, the Parents Association’s 37th annual gala. We dedicate this special evening to celebrating, honoring, and supporting the heartbeat of our School—our students. This past year, Parker awarded over $5 million in financial assistance to over 20 percent of our students. Each year, as the demand for financial assistance grows, we are committed to meeting the needs of our students and their families. Monies raised through our annual gala go directly to support this top priority. I want to extend sincere thanks to the Parents Association President, Marilyn Tobin, and members for their unyielding support of our School and to our generous sponsors for helping to underwrite tonight’s event completely. As a result of their incredible efforts, all monies raised tonight go directly to student financial assistance. A special thank you to this year’s Gala Chair, Erik Keskinen, for his leadership. Following the success of the 2017 ParkerPalooza gala, coupled with his passion and love for music, Erik and this year’s committee of dedicated volunteers spent months preparing for this fantastic evening of country music. Truly, we are in for a special night. Our thanks to our Gala speaker, Tyler Bernardini ’07, for joining us from England and sharing the inspiring story of his Parker experience, and the opportunities it provided him both personally and professionally. On behalf of all of us at Parker, thank you for your support. Enjoy the evening, and thank you again for being with us tonight. With much gratitude,
Kevin Yaley, Head of School

gala chair message Howdy Y’all, Like so much of country music, the Parker community is about family, and a family is never happier than when it is in harmony. The generosity of Parker families, harmoniously working together to support our students, leaves me humbled and grateful. It is with profound gratitude that I thank all of our generous sponsors who donated over $235,000 to completely underwrite this gala, ensuring that every dollar raised tonight will go straight to student financial assistance. Way to, “Git ‘er done!” Who knew I’d be writing this message so soon after ParkerPalooza? My hard-working Gala Committee deserves every ounce of love and respect I feel for them daily. Their collective faith in my vision never wavered, and they generously gave countless hours of time and talent to bring Country Palooza to life. Parents Association President Marilyn Tobin’s steadfast support, the brilliance that is Lori Foote, and my Advancement heroes Shara Freeman Hoefel and Debbie Kempinski kept my caboose on the track, believing in me at times more than I did. My deepest thanks go to all of you. I must also thank my husband, Bob, and children Parker and Presley, for not just putting up with my shenanigans, but embracing them! Now kick up your heels and have a good ol’ time at your country gala festival! Be generous in supporting the heartbeat of our community— our students—by raising your paddle at a level of which you are proud. Yeehaw!

FUND-A-SCHOLARSHIP Did you know that over 20 percent of Parker students receive financial assistance? The opportunity for qualified students to attend Parker should not be limited by financial constraints. Because of your support, Parker is able to commit over $5 million or 15 percent of the School’s tuition revenue in the upcoming 2019-2020 academic year to deserving students. Need-based financial assistance awards range from $500 to over $29,000 per year and are awarded to students Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. One hundred percent of financial assistance recipients who graduate from Parker matriculate at four-year colleges and universities. Parker also guarantees that recipients are able to participate in one global trip during Middle School and one during Upper School, as well as take advantage of the full Parker experience. Please raise your paddle to demonstrate your belief in Parker’s top priority—our students! Thank you in advance.

FEATURED SPEAKER
Sponsored by PROFESSIONAL MAINTENANCE SYSTEMS TYLER BERNARDINI ’07 From the time Tyler Bernardini ’07 first became a student at Parker in 2003, he dreamed of becoming a professional basketball player. Parker demanded much from Tyler, both on and off the court. He answered this challenge through countless hours of practice to perfect his game and hone his leadership skills, all while pushing through the academic rigor of a Parker education. Those hours of hard work paid off when Tyler earned all-state basketball honors in 2007 during his senior year, leading the Lancers to league co-champions as team captain. Upon graduation, Tyler attended the prestigious Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in economics. In each of his four years at Penn, Tyler was a starter on the basketball team and received the honor of Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2008. Tyler was invited to be a member of Penn’s prestigious Friars Honor Society. After Penn, Tyler was offered a chance to live his dream as a professional basketball player when the Carlsbad native was recruited for the Italian Basketball league as a guard on the Mapooro Cantu team. Two years later, he accepted a position with the Leicester Riders in the United Kingdom. The Riders earned the title of League Champion three times during Tyler’s five years with them. A team captain for two years, Tyler received MVP accolades in 2015, 2016, and 2018. With a desire to further his education, Tyler earned a Master of Science with a concentration in international management from Loughborough University, UK in 2016. Tyler began his career working as sales director for the Leicester Riders Basketball Club where he managed sales, marketing, and promotion strategy. Recently he joined Morgan Stanley London’s office on their foreign exchange sales team. Tyler currently lives in London, with his wife, Emily Hunt Bernardini, and their sheepadoodle, Gryffindor. He serves as Ambassador to several nonprofit organizations including Hope Against Cancer and Alex’s Wish.

Auction Item
All auction item descriptions are based on information provided by the donor. Francis Parker School (Parker) has made every effort to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the information. Neither Parker nor its Parents Association (PA) are responsible for the accuracy of the information or for the quality of services or merchandise delivered. All contractual and legal agreements concerning items auctioned are entirely between the buyer and provider of the services or merchandise. Each item is sold “as is” without any warranty (expressed or implied) and without representation as to the actual value of the item by Parker. For charitable tax deductions, please consult with your tax professional as to the deductibility of auction items. Each item has a value and it is stated in the program or on the Greater Giving receipt supplied to each registered bidder. A few auction items are listed as priceless, as each auction full-package experience is hard to quantify. We have asked the donor to do their best to determine the Fair Market Value (FMV). The FMV is available online at https:// countrypalooza.ggo.bid. Questions? Email pa-galaauction@francisparker.org.
Live Auction Procedures
Bid numbers are printed on individual cards and will be handed out at your table. To bid on live auction items, visibly wave your card. Continue to hold your card in view of the auctioneer until your bid number is called. If you are the highest bidder, the auctioneer will announce your bid number as the winner. An auction volunteer will record your bid number on a confirmation sheet. Fund-a-Scholarship bids may require a signature to verify the amount. The confirmation sheet will be delivered to check-out where it will be posted to your bill.

Buy-It-Now (BIN) Items
Each item has a special price at which a bidder may immediately become the item’s winner with no further bidding allowed. If the item is not sold at the BIN price, it will be sold in the Live Auction at the Gala event.
Buy-IN items
The items are available to multiple bidders who wish to partake in the event opportunity. Each opportunity has a maximum number, and until that number is reached, people can purchase a “ticket” to the event.
Liability
Neither Parker, nor any individual directly or indirectly involved in the planning or execution of Country Palooza, assumes any responsibility for the description, authenticity or condition of any auction item. Further, no warranty or guarantee, express or implied, is made by Parker with respect to any auction item. By participating in the auction and placing a bid, all bidders expressly release and discharge Parker, its trustees, officers, employees, volunteers and agents from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions or rights of action, which are related to, arise out of, or are in any way connected with an auction item.
Payment Procedures and Check-out
Parker accepts credit cards, cash, and checks. Auction items must be paid in full and can be picked-up at check-out.
Event and Opportunity Drawing Tickets
None of the event or opportunity drawing ticket costs are recognized as a gift to Parker. The event ticket cost tax-deduction is based off the FMV, which is the estimate of how much the evening would cost if someone were to purchase a similar experience at a commercial establishment. The FMV for both regular and advance ticket prices are $175 for Sponsors, $150 for VIP and $110 for General. Please consult with your tax professional as to the deductibility of ticket(s).
Receipts
Receipts detailing purchases will be generated from the Greater Giving auction software and e-mailed within one month following the Country Palooza. The Advancement Office will also mail an official gift receipt and acknowledgment letter for outright gifts in support of Fund-a-Scholarship and School auction items (i.e., parking space, promotion packages) in which the winning bid is $10,000 or more.
What to Wear
The Country Palooza music festival is all about comfort! Your favorite dungarees and western inspired shirt will have you looking just right; add some cowboy boots and you’ll be “on point!” You could also choose to wear your favorite country artist t-shirt or (if your feelin’ like an outlaw) dress as your favorite country performer! This is an outdoor event so you may think about a wrap or denim jacket for the evening.
Proxy Bidding
We do accept proxy bids from non-attendees. For more information, contact pa-galachair@francisparker.org.
