EXPECTATIONS BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE APPEARANCES ON SOCIAL MEDIA, IT IS A WELL-KNOWN FACT THAT FEMALES WHO ARE WELL GROOMED RECEIVE MORE LIKES THAN THOSE WHO ARE LESS WELL TURNED OUT. UNFORTUNATELY, SOME WOMEN ARE NOT PRESENTING THEMSELVES HONESTLY. THEY ARE PRESENTING THEIR IDEAL SELVES AND NOT THEIR ACTUAL SELVES. FOR MALES, SOCIAL MEDIA IS A PLACE TO PROMOTE THEMSELVES RATHER THAN CREATE NEW IDENTITIES OF THEMSELVES. ACCORDING TO A US STUDY (MANAGO ET AL..,2008) FEMALES ARE MORE LIKELY TO PRESENT THEMSELVES AS ATTRACTIVE, SEDUCTIVE AND CHOOSE A PROFILE PICTURE IN WHICH THEY BELIEVE THEY LOOK GOOD. MALES ON THE OTHER HAND WANT TO APPEAR AS STRONG AND TRY TO LOOK “COOL”. THE COMMON THINGS ARE OFTEN CAN BE OVER SEXUALIZED. AN EXAMPLE CAN BE FEMALES OFTEN WEAR MAKE UP, FANCY CLOTH OR BIKINI TO SHOW THEIR BODY FIGURE AND MALE OFTEN BE LIKE TOP LESS AND SHOWING ABS, MUSCLE. BOTH MALES AND FEMALES TEND TO PRESENT THEMSELVES TO AN “EXPECTED” AUDIENCE ONE THAT IS A CONSTRUCT CREATED BY THE USERS OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA. THIS SOME TIME CAN LEAD TO NEGATIVE REACTION, ESPECIALLY FOR TEENAGER. THE PERCEPTION OF FEMALES IS TO PLEASE THE EXPECTATION OF MALES BY BEING GLAMOROUS AND THE MALE PERCEPTION OF PLEASING FEMALES IS TO APPEAR STRONG. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE SOME SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THE GENDERS, FOR EXAMPLE, BOTH MALES AND FEMALES TEND TO PORTRAY THEMSELVES SEXUALLY BY OFTEN WEARING REVEALING CLOTHES. THE DIFFERING EXPECTATIONS REMAIN DISTINCTIVE.

The Movie Divergent was released into cinema in 2014 and is a science fiction
movie. The movie was a great success as it was based on identity and where you fit in. One of the main characters “Beatrice was different to the rest and stood out significantly. The film reaches out to a significant audience ranging from children to adults. The movie takes place in a futuristic dystopia where there is a society that is split up into 5 various factions. As the children grow up and reach the age of 16 years old they have to choose which fiction they wish to go to. They will then spend the rest of their life there. The main character is a woman but the movie is definitely dominated by males. The female characters wears close that do not show off their body parts and limbs. The movie is based purely on gender identities and creates awareness to both genders. The movie is definitely worth watching and I would strongly recommend it to everyone above the age of 13. The movie has a five star rating and is no disappointment.

HOW CHILDREN ARE INFLUNCES BY MOVIES IN MANY WAYS THE MEDIA AFFECTS OUR IMAGE OF THE WORLD. HOW WE PERCEIVE IT AND HOW WE ARE INFLUENCED BY IT. SO HOW DOES IT AFFECT OUR PERCEPTION OF SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS GENDER ROLES? WE ARE SHOWN IMAGES OF GENDER ROLES AS CHILDREN. FROM THE MOMENT WE ARE BORN MEDIA INFLUENCES US. THROUGH MUSIC, THROUGH PAINTING, THROUGH THE MOVIES WE WATCH. IN ANIMATED MOVIES, WE SEE AS KIDS, THERE TENDS TO BE A PRINCESS IN NEED OF SAVING WITH A STRONG NIGHT TO SAVE THEM. THE PRINCESSES ARE KIND, GENTLE, AND VERY OFTEN OBSESSED WITH CLEANING AND COOKING. IN THE FIRST DISNEY PRINCESS MOVIE, SNOW WHITE, THE LEADING LADY WAS EXACTLY THAT, OBSESSED WITH CLEANING AND COOKING. WE COULD SAY THAT THAT WAS JUST HER CHARACTERISTICS HOWEVER THESE PATTERNS CONTINUED INTO MANY OTHER MOVIES SUCH AS CINDERELLA, BELLE FROM BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, AND SLEEPING BEAUTY. THESE CHARACTERISTICS HAVEN T CHANGED THROUGH TIME. BY LOOKING AT THE MORE RECENT MOVIES SUCH AS TANGLED, RAPUNZEL IS STILL OBSESSED WITH CLEANING AND COOKING. SHE MAY BE A MORE MODERN AND QUIRKY CHARACTER BUT SHE STILL NEEDS TO BE LEAD AND SAVED BY A MAN. EVEN IN THE LATEST DISNEY HIT, FROZEN, A STORY OF TWO SISTERS, THE FEMALES IS SHOWN AS INSECURE AND IN NEED OF HELP WITH A MAN TO HELP THEM. SO MANY YOUNG GIRLS SEE THESE FEMALE FIGURES AND IDOLIZE THEM. IT IS SAD TO THINK THAT THE YOUNG MINDS OF TODAY, OR ANY GENERATION, ONLY HAS THIS ONE IMAGE OF FEMALE IDENTITY TO BASE OFF OF WHO THEY WANT TO BE. THESE ANIMATED MOVIES PLACE EXPECTATIONS ON SO MANY CHILDREN THAT THEY SHOULDN T BE EXPECTED TO FOLLOW.

GENDER EMOJIS 7
EMOJIS AND THEIR MEANING
Emojis and their meaning Emojis and their meaning Emojis and their meaning Emojis and their meaning Emojis and their meaning Emojis and their meaning
PEOPLE USE EMOJIS TO EXPRESS THEIR FEELINGS, AS THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO SEE EACH OTHER THROUGH TEXT MESSAGES. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A MALE DANCER, A FEMALE COP OR EVEN A FEMALE ATHLETE EMOJI? THIS IS DISTINGUISHING BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE AS TO WHAT EMOJIS MALES AND FEMALES ARE BEING EXPECTED TO USE AND WHAT THEIR ONLINE DIARY SHOULD LOOK LIKE. IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT MALES USE CERTAIN EMOJIS MORE THAN FEMALES. SEEING THAT YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO SEE THE OTHER PERSONS REAL EMOTIONS MEN GENERALLY TEND TO USE EMOJIS THAT WILL NOT HARM THEIR IMAGE AS A MALE AND THUS HE WILL NOT PERFORM HIS MANLY ROLE INCORRECTLY. MEN USUALLY USE EMOJIS AS A WAY OF FLIRTING BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO TRIGGER AN EMOTION IN FEMALES. FEMALES GENERALLY USE EMOJIS TO GET THEIR POINT ACROSS TO PEOPLE AND TO EXPRESS THEIR EMOTIONS WITH. IN ORDER FOR PEOPLE TO FIT IN WITH SOCIETY THEY USE THE EMOJIS THAT BEST FIT THEIR ROLE AS THE EMOJIS ARE TARGETED TO CERTAIN GENDERS. WHATSAPP HAS RECENTLY ADDED NEW SET OF EMOJIS. THE NEW EMOJIS ALLOW YOU TO SELECT THE COLOUR OF THE EMOJI. THIS WAS DESIGNED TO ACCOMMODATE MORE PEOPLE IN SOCIETY. AS WE HAVE SEEN IN THE ABOVE ARTICLE EMOJIS ARE ALL AROUND

SUICIDE SQUAD – FILM REVIEW WRITTEN BY JONATHAN HU ABOUT THE FILM: DIRECTOR: DAVID AYER PRODUCTION COMPANY: DC ENTERTAINMENT RELEASE DATE: 1ST OF AUGUST 2016
PLOT OUTLINE: THE STORY TAKES PLACE AFTER THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN, PEOPLE FEAR THAT IF ONE DAY A POWERFUL CREATURE LIKE SUPERMAN WOULD ATTACK EARTH, HUMAN KIND WOULD BE IN DANGER, SO THE GOVERNMENT FORMED A TEAM OF SUPER VILLAINS TO DO HIGH RISK MISSIONS AND PROTECT EARTH.
STYLE AND SETTING: THE FILM IS BASED ON OLD DC COMICS, SET IN THE USA, OBVIOUSLY THIS FILM IS A BIT DIFFERENT TO THE TRADITIONAL SUPERHERO MOVIES, IT LET’S THE VIEWERS SEE THINGS FROM A VILLAIN’S SIDE. OVERALL THE MOVIES QUITE INTENSE, WITH SOME FUNNY ELEMENTS THAT REALLY MAKE THE PEOPLE LAUGH.
GENDER ROLE IN THIS MOVIE: THERE WERE 6 MEMBERS ON THIS SUPER VILLAIN TEAM, HARLEY QUINN WAS THE ONLY FEMALE CHARACTER. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS QUITE A BIG PART OF THE MOVIE EXPLAINING HARLEY QUINN’S BACKSTORY, SHE WAS STILL MORE OF A SUPPORTING CHARACTER, WHICH WEARS SEXUAL AND REVEALING CLOTHING TO ATTRACT AUDIENCE. THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANGE OF GENDER ROLE, HAVING FEMALE CHARACTERS AS THE MAIN VILLAIN AND THE GOVERNMENT DIRECTOR OF THIS TEAM, WHICH WOULD NORMALLY BE MEN’S ROLE IN A MOVIE, ALTOGETHER THERE WERE ONLY THREE FEMALE CHARACTERS THAT HAD MAJOR SPEAKING ROLES IN THIS MOVIE, AND THE REST ARE ALL MEN, THIS MOVIE AGAIN SHOWS THE INEQUALITY BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN IN THE FILM INDUSTRY TODAY.
RECOMMENDATION: I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO PEOPLE WHO ENJOY ACTION AND SUPERHERO MOVIES, THERE IS A BIT OF STRONG LANGUAGES, BUT OVER ALL IT’S A VERY GOOD MOVIE
Book Review Purple Hibiscus is the novel written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It was first published by Algonquin Books in 2003 and it costs R214,46. The setting of the book is in Nigeria, the story is about a wealthy family of four, which includes Kambili Achike (main character), Jaja Achike (Kambili’s brother), Eugene Achike is the father and Beatrice is the mother. The story follows Kambili (narrator) as she finds herself. I was really impressed how women power is presented through out different stages of the book. For example Aunty Ifeoma (Eugene’s sister) was a widow and a single mom raising three children by herself. At the end of the book, Beatrice stands up for herself and protected her children from her abusive husband. Lastly, we have our main character, who transforms into an independent women and she challenged the traditional gender stereotype. The book caught my attention from the beginning of the book and I continue falling into the pages of Purple Hibiscus as the story unravels. This book gave me motivation to deal with certain thing in my life and Kambili is the example that I look up everyday and I think it will do the same for you.

Nhung : As a child, did your family have traditional values? Ms.Ifeoma : Yes my family followed the rules of our society. My
father believe that he was the head of the household and no one questioned him. His word was law.
Nhung : Was this particular belief regarding the males role part of your marriage?
Ms.Ifeoma : Yes, absolutely. Nhung : So, what happen after your husband died and left you as the house leader?
Ms.Ifeoma : It was really difficult for me to be a single mother in this
society which gave women no power. My identity changed when I was no longer a wife.
Nhung: I’m so sorry to hear that! Especially in your society, people
were not familiar with the image of an independent woman. Can you give us some insight into where your strength to raise your family of three children, run your home and maintain an academic position?
Ms.Ifeoma : My children were my strength, motivation and inspiration.

About the writer: Directed by: Dennis Gansel Written By: Philip Shelby, Tony Mosher Studio: Summit Entertainment Genre: Action, Adventure, Mystery and Suspense
Plot outline: A contract killer named Arthur Bishop (played by Jason Statham) is highly skilled at assassinating targets and making it look like an accident. He is forced out of retirement to work for his old rival Crain (played by Sam Hazeldine) and Bishop’s girlfriend Gina (played by Jessica Alba) life hangs in the balance.
Style and setting: The film is an action adventure-based movie set firstly in Brazil then shot at various places around the world, for example from Africa to the USA.
Gender roles in the movie: The characters in this film are mostly male. There are only two female characters that play a major role Gina, Arthur’s girlfriend, is the main female character and shows her as weak because she was kidnapped in the first place and used against Arthur. All the major roles are played by men, which show the inequality of gender roles in the film industry.
Recommendation: I would highly recommend this film to people who enjoy a good action movie with plenty of stunts throughout and high-octane thrills and explosions. Not for the chick flick’ movie lovers though.

FILM REVIEW THE NEW STAR TREK BEYOND WAS RELEASED IN THE CINEMAS THE OTHER DAY. JUSTIN LIN DIRECTED THIS EXTREMELY FUNNY SCI-FI ADVENTURE FILM FROM A SCREENPLAY BY SIMON PEGG AND DOUG JUNG. THE MOVIE STARTS WITH THEIR TRAVELS EXTENDING THROUGH SPACE. THEIR ADVENTURES LEAD THEM TO AN ATTACK THAT FORCES THE ENTERPRISE TO CRASH ON A MYSTERIOUS WORLD. A LIZARD-LIKE DICTATOR NAMED KRALL CAPTURES MANY OF THE CREW. HE SEEKS AN ANCIENT ARTIFACT THAT CAN KILL ALL CIVILIZATION. CAPTAIN KIRK (CHRIS PINE), SPOCK (ZACHERY QUINTO) AND THE REST OF THE CREW MUST PREVENT KRALL FROM USING THIS DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE. THE MAJORITY OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS ARE MALE, AND THIS IS SAD TO SEE IN OUR DAY AND AGE. BUT I CAN GET PAST THIS SINCE IT IS BASED OFF OF SUCH A CLASSIC SERIES. EVEN THOUGH I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY THE FEMALES ON BOARD MUST WEAR THOSE DRESSES. I REALLY ENJOYED THIS MOVIE AND I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO AND WATCH IT YOURSELVES, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE AS MUCH AS A GEEK AS ME.
I WOULD RATE THIS MOVIE A 7/10.

Can MEN and WOMEN can compete at the same level in sports??
FICTIONAL INTERVIEW BY JONATHAN HU Jonathan: Good day, Adara? Can I ask you some questions regarding gender in sports? Adara:
Good day, Jonathan. I would gladly answer your questions.
Jonathan: Do you think that men and women can compete at the same level in sports? Adara:
I think there are some sports where i doesn’t require as mcuh physical endurance and strength as other sports, so women can compete at the same level as men, but for other sports such as football, it has a higher demand for physical strength and men would generally do better at it.
Jonathan: Men generally gets paid more than women in sports, what do you think is the reason for that? Adara:
Viewership and sponsorship, the more viewers that a match has, the more companies can make a profit out of it, so because male sports has more viewers, they would receive far more sponsorships.
Jonathan: Do you think it is fair? Why or why not? Adara:
From a business standpoint, it is fair, but from the player’s point of view, it isn’t fair, because they cannot directly control the amount of viewers. Therefore they cannot control their income level.
Jonathan: What could be done for women to get paid the same amount as men? Adara:
Create more awareness for female sports, advertising it to a larger group of people. It will draw in more viewers which will rise the income level for female players.
Jonathan: Do you know any sports where women compete at a higher level than men? Adara:
Volleyball and netball.
Jonathan: Why do you think that is? Adara:
Because the gender roles in society dictates the certain sports that a cer tain gender should play
Jonathan: How different are sports shown on television for men and women? Adara:
Female sports has less coverage, less cameras, less exposure comparing the men.
Jonathan: Adara:
Thank you for your time Adara.
Your welcome, Jonathan.
Why do men and women get paid differently for the exact same job? Women are in average paid less than men even for the same job. According to Swedish National Mediation Office men are paid 13.2% more than women. In this numbers the women and men does have different jobs but it's still a very big gap between the genders. When the same research was made on women and men with exactly the same job the average salary for women were still 4,6% under the average of the men. In Sweden 2015 was the average salary 32000 sek a month (3766 USD). Women had an average of 29900 sek (3519 USD) and men had 34100 sek (4014 USD). If you compare the same jobs, the biggest difference between the genders are the officials in the private sector. OECD report Gender wage gap shows that Sweden is the 16 most equal country when it comes to salaries. In this study they compared 35 countries to each other. The most equal country was New Zealand and the least equal was Korea. In the research also talk about that the average wage gap between men and women in salaries are 15,464%. A way to minimize the gap in salaries are by improve the childcare and get more women to study science and engineering science. Men often searches for jobs with a good salary trend and women would search for jobs with better salary trends the society would be more equal. Many things are showing that the world is going towards a more equal place. The differences in salaries between the genders are shrinking from year to year. In the future you will probably only get paid for what you do and not which gender you are. Many people are reacting to the salary differences between the gender and many feminism opinions have started to get more attentions.
