They’re not just cool, they’re “Bad Moms” sibilities has cut her off from the rest of the world. Kathryn Hahn is always enjoyable to watch and sometimes the movie obliges her talent with good, weird jokes - like when she and Bell rattle off the ultra-specific mom sub-demographics Amy (Kunis) will have to entertain if she runs for PTA president against Gwendolyn.

By Benjamin Fisher

Everyone can remember the person who acted as a motherly figure (most often actual moms) towards them, as a child. There were times when you hated your mother even if she tried her hardest. The movie, directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Morre, depicts the story of three mothers who have given up trying to be perfect and want to have some fun of their own instead. In an entertaining and light-hearted way, “Bad Moms” delves into the stressful lives of hardworking parents.

Overall the movie is full of laughs and relatable moments for parents and children alike - like when Amy’s daughter thinks her life is over as she didn’t make the soccer team. It shows us the stressful and thankless work that most parents do but also how it’s ok not to get everything right. In life there is room for mistakes.

Amy is mother of two kids in the modern day world, who is overworked, underpaid and underappreciated but after a particularly bad day she decides to rebel against the system defining what a perfect mom is.

The actresses in the movie sell the comedic scenes that others would struggle with. Mila Kunis sells the overworked mom role like a pro whilst Kristin Bell is especially funny as a cheery, lonely mom whose torrent of childcare respon6

It is rated R in theaters as it contains sexual material, nudity, strong language and drug use. Any adult who has had children will love this film and even if you don’t have, there are more than enough laughs in the movie for the general public. “Bad Moms” is a well-written, comedic, feel-good movie that will leave every viewer satisfied.

Score Grade: ‘A’ for Absolutely go and watch!

Interview with Emma Watson Benjamin Fisher interviewing actress, Emma Watson BF: Hi there, thank you for joining me. EW: Not a problem, thank you for having me. BF: So, it must be a very exciting time for you, as you’ve just finishing filming “Beauty and the Beast”!

EW: I don’t think people fully understand what it means, but regardless of that it’s the idea and the ambition behind it that is important, not the term we’ve given it. Not all women have been afforded the same rights that I have. In fact, statistically, very few women have been. BF: Do you think men in general enjoy the benefits of inequality?

BF: I’m sure you were amazing. Speaking of being brave, what was it like delivering your speech at the “HeforShe” campaign?

EW: Considering the fact that I’ve seen young men suffering from mental illness and unable to ask for help for fear that it would make them seem less “manly”, no I don’t. In fact, in the UK suicide is the biggest killer of men between 20-49 years of age - eclipsing road accidents, cancer and coronary heart disease. Men don’t reap the benefits of equality.

EW: It was a surreal experience and even though I was nervous beyond belief, equality in both life and the workplace is something that is very important to me.

BF: What a very interesting point that I’m sure gives us all something to think about. Thank you for taking the time to speak to me today.

BF: Why do you think some people hate the word “feminist”?

EW: Thank you for listening.

EW: Yes but I have to sing in it which is something that I’ve never done on camera before. It gives me a different challenge and that’s excitingly terrifying!

Recipe For A feminist Prep time: Past-1994 (South Africa)

Yield: 7,125 Billion

Ready in: 30 Years Ingredients 1 Cup of Previous Oppression 1 Cup of Unequal Rights ¾ Cup of Wage Difference 4 Tablespoons of Frustration ½ Tablespoon of Sexual Harassment 3 ½ Teaspoons of Intelligence 3 Teaspoons of Rape Culture 4 Millennia of Domestic Lifestyles

Method 1.

Firstly, set the year to 2016 for about 85 days.

2.

Whisk the history of the many years that women weren’t allowed to vote. Mix this with the women who

weren’t allowed to have a job. Set aside the previous oppression and unequal rights for later. 3.

Separate the wage difference from the frustration into different bowls and add intelligence to the mixture.

4.

Add sexual harassment to the bowl with the wage difference and rape culture into the frustration. Mix these

all together to make a woman's feelings. 5.

Knead the ideologies of feminism into all genders until the idea is encouraged and make it rest.

6.

Let the feminists rise for 1 year.

7.

Once they have tripled in size, knock them down with the oppression and unequal rights from earlier until they are back to the original numbers.

8.

Let them be empowered for the second time and rise even larger than the last.

9.

Break them up, let them rise in their separate groups and put them on a contemplation tray.

10.

Allow for the feminism to spread in the heads of the narrow minded until it is widely accepted.

11.

Leave the batch of feminists out for approximately 20 years to cool off.

ROMY BOGNER

“Juno” isn’t a film for babies, if ju-know what I mean... By Romy Bogner Jason Reitman’s film “Juno” is the type of clever, feel-good film that you can watch over and over again, memorising the scenes and rediscovering jokes. I say this because that is precisely what I have done. Diablo Cody has created an excellent, dynamic main character that portrays the strength of women uniquely, while giving serious topics a witty wake up. The film is set in a middle-class, American suburb, where our heroine gets knocked up by her best friend, Paulie Bleeker. Luckily, her parents are authentic, levelheaded characters who trust their daughter’s judgement enough to completely support her through this dilemma. Juno knows that she is too young to raise the child and after abortion doesn’t go to plan, decides to find adoptive parents for “it”. The story then follows Juno through the pregnancy and we watch not only the fetus grow, but also Juno herself. This is a coming of age story like no other.

15

Ellen Page’s portrayal of Juno Macguff earned her countless well-deserved nominations and awards. Her presence and timing are impeccable, and she hits exactly the right notes to be both poignant and hilarious. Page’s characterisation is flawless; Juno is the right amount of sarcastic and sad. Her brave, apathetic exterior masks her true feelings but Page lets just enough real emotion seep through to endear Juno to the audience.

However, Paulie represents a less

One cannot help but be amazed by the originality and heart of this film. A unique voice speaks through the characters and makes them real, but also very different to what we are familiar with, perhaps because of the uncommonly wise humour. Another reason for the unique, familiar-but-not feeling could be that the audience is not accustomed to seeing genders portrayed this way in the majority of popular cinema.

them, support them or make deci-

“Juno” challenges these gender identities in a number of ways. The protagonist is a female and her character is not grossly sexualised. It is the women in the film that are active characters that drive the plot with decisions and actions, whereas men are passive characters. This passivity is shown as both good and bad; Juno’s father is exemplified as a good type of passive male by being her loving supporter who lets her make choices in life.

16

desirable type of passive; he is feeble, indecisive and unassertive, leaving Juno totally alone regarding the pregnancy. “Juno” demonstrates that teen pregnancy is not a “game over” in life, passive males are under-appreciated by society, and that women simply do not need men to provide for sions for them.

I would recommend this movie to anyone yearning for intelligent comedy, anyone wanting to see gender roles being challenged, and anyone wanting to see a warming film. Due to the mature themes, sexual content and language present, this is rated PG-13 and I suggest that this is adhered to.

Interview with Future President, Ex First Lady Interview with Hillary Clinton, former first lady and the Democratic Party nominee for President of the United States in the 2016 election.

HC: During my time as the first lady, I made the infamous statement , “women’s rights are human rights “. I said this in 1995 and I still live by this. Since then, I’ve done all I could to spread global awareness about inequality and although controversial, l voted for the women’s right to choose whether they want an abortion or not.

By Caitlin Schultz CS: Good afternoon, Ms Clinton. HC: Good afternoon.

CS: Do you accredit the power you now have to voice your opinions to you former husband, Mr Clinton?

CS: So, you’re the first female to stand a rather high chance of becoming the next president. Do you feel more pressured to succeed given the circumstances?

HC: I definitely gained popularity due to being first lady. However, it was my independent decision to run for president and regardless of how many people take my opinion into consideration, I will always find a way to voice my opinions.

HC: Regardless of gender, any leader should do their best to set out to accomplish their goals. However, there are a lot of people who expect me to fail, because I am a woman and I am determined to prove them wrong.

CS: Thank you, Ms Clinton. I truly believe that you can make a difference with your power and I wish you the best for the rest of your campaigning.

CS: What does the word feminist mean to you and would you consider yourself a feminist? HC: I see a feminist as a person who believes that women and men should have equal opportunities. I am a strong believer in this, as I have been involved in making sure that women and men have equal rights. So yes, I am a proud feminist. CS: What have you done to improve the lives of women?
