What can I expect at First Baptist Church?

We are a church that emphasizes the Word of God. Our songs are saturated with Scripture, and we generally sing hymns and newer doctrine-rich songs. Most of the service is hearing the Word read and following along while the Bible is preached. The desire is to enable people to have an understanding of the Scripture so that when they are reading it at home, the Holy Spirit can make the needed changes in those who have already been changed by the Gospel. Thus, we are a people who believe that the Holy Spirit uses the Holy Word to make holy people more like Jesus Christ.

What kind of church are you?

First Baptist Church is an independent Baptist Church that preaches and teaches the Bible. We emphasize holy living (1 Peter 1:1516), care for one another (John 13:34), evangelization (Mark 16:15), and the cultivation of personal spiritual growth (1 Peter 2:2). We are a conservative church interested in seeing people come to know Jesus as Saviour, and in helping those who are believers to become more like Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29).

The Gospel (“Good News”)

“Before you can get Good News, you have to hear Bad News. The bad news is that everyone has sinned against a holy God. We have all sinned at least once in life (telling a lie, coveting, dishonoring our parents, etc). Because of this, we deserve punishment from God.

But the Good News is that God loved mankind so much that He sent Jesus to die for sins. He took the punishment that we deserve so we could be forgiven and declared righteous. That’s not just good news, it’s Great News! Anyone who places their trust in Jesus’s death on the cross will be saved: “By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works.” (Eph 2:8-9) No baptism or good works can save us; we must trust in the sacrifice of Christ.”
