Learn about your favorite animals during feeding time as Wildwood staff feeds a few of our 20 different animal species.

Nature Nook

Visit the Nature Nook, a free interactive educational area complete with nature books, puzzles, puppets, games, and activities. Each month we explore a different nature topic.

WNC Main Events! Halloween Hoopla Get ready for Halloween! Carve a pumpkin, stuff a scarecrow, jump on a hayride, and enjoy s’mores and apple cider or cocoa around a campfire. All you need to bring is clothes (long sleeve shirt, pants, a hat) to dress up your scarecrow. One scarecrow and one pumpkin per registration. A pumpkin and scarecrow judging contest is held during the last 15 minutes of the evening, and prizes are awarded. See event details in the chart below.

Pumpkin Smash & Bash Roll your pumpkin down the Centennial Sled Hill in a fun competition, then smash them into piles of compost. Go green by cleaning up the newly smashed pumpkins and learn about composting. Please remove any candles and glow sticks before bringing your pumpkin to the event. Event is free, but registration required. See event details in the chart below.

Backyard Campout All Ages

Camp out with your family in the Park District’s backyard, outside at the Wildwood Nature Center. Enjoy a campfire dinner and s’mores on Friday night, as well as breakfast on Saturday morning. After dinner, say hello to the Wildwood critters, borrow a fishing pole and visit the pond, and enjoy a family friendly movie before turning in for the night. Participants are required to bring their own tents and bedding. Fee is per person. Registration deadline: August 31. Take a trip to Uncommon Ground on Devon for a farmer led tour of their Organic Rooftop Farm. After the tour, enjoy the fruits of their labor with lunch. The rooftop garden is a 2,500 square foot deck, made from post-consumer recycled materials. They grow a variety of organic plants and herbs that are used in both of their restaurant locations, as well as flowing companion plants. This nature focused program for 3 to 4-year-olds infuses traditional readiness learning and preschool activities with an emphasis on the natural world and daily outdoor discovery.
